Steak N Shake

Overall Rating: 9
Food:[9] •
Service:[9] •
Atmosphere:[10]
- Good food, steak burgers and more choices than other burger stores.
- Staff can be slightly too friendly.
“Better than average fast food chain store. The food is a notch above even hamburger stores. The main fare is ground steak burgers and above average milk shakes. Prices are reasonable, unlike nearby, which manages to get $9 or more a simple hamburger combo. As you get lots of decor but an average family leaves broke and hungry. Not so for, Steak N Shake. The staff is exceptionally friendly, even for a Midwest state.”

- Good traditional American food.
- Rather crowded at rush times.
“The hotel is a local institution first built when the WWII Ford B-24 Mitchell Bomber went into production at Willow Run, Ypsilanti. A breakfast and lunch diner type fare eatery. Breakfast and lunch fare are standard, basic American food. Good value and good food.”

- Great food. Curb Service. Good staff.
- No inside eating at all.
“A local institution. Very popular with Ypsilanti Residents. A family fast food take-out place. Hard to categorize as Chick In is not totally fast food. There are above average home made like sandwiches but fast food style fish and seafood items. Famous for its Paul Bunyan hearty, unique hamburger. Offers old fashioned ice cream milk shakes and off the main road flavors. Their peanut butter shake is wild. Highly recommend this take-out. Absolutely, the best take-out in the area.”

Big Boy Restaurant

Overall Rating: 5

Atmosphere:[7]
- Interior and atmosphere is nice & basic breakfast palatable. Family friendly, if members eat fast food.
- Meals overpriced, a bad value considering you could do better & cheaper warming up grocery store frozen food.
“Big Boy Michigan is today an overpriced fast food restaurant. The so-called cooks are $8 an hour grill or prep cooks at best. Any burger junk food grill prep could get the hang of Michigan Big Boy cooking in a few hours. Everything comes out of a box, freezer container or a big can. Breakfast is almost real food. The bacon, sausage, etc are deep fryer cooked. The staff at this store, like the staff at the Belleville Big Boy tends to have a poor attitude. There is a high staff turnover. Its much rumored that Some sleep in their cars which is common among local Burger King staff. The owners-managers of local Burger King and Big Boy seem to manage schedules and keeping their restaurants health department compliant, laudable deeds but what about the food? By all means steer clear of all Big Boy buffets, especially breakfast and seafood buffets. The buffet pancakes, French toast look flat and dried out. The fried eggs are healthy but aged looking. The hot table just isn't managed well and the food began as fast food to begin with. The buffets are like a chain burger joint where the food is overheated by a steam table & left on it too long to be very palatable.”
