Jalapenos Mexican Foods
Jul 2, 2008 by
Patrick
from Annapolis
Overall Rating: 4
- Ample parking.
- The host was a condescending a-hole to my 12 years daughter who just wanted a burrito.
“This is not the type of Tex-Mex restaurant most Americans are familiar with. This is a truly traditional Spanish (with some Spanish-American recipes thrown in) eatery, so don't expect chime changes and burritos (those are on the menu, but on the back page in the meager a-la carte section). But that is not why I give this place 4 out of ten. The reasons for the low score include the exorbitant prices and snobbish staff. The host took it upon himself to chastise my 12 year old because she ordered a burrito. The service was generally OK, but a little slow, and the presentation was awful (likely due to the fact we were not ordering the $24 fish - a dish I could get at most non-Mexican/Spanish restaurants) or some other overpriced offering.”

Mcgarveys Saloon & Oyster Bar

Overall Rating: 8

- Raw bar, male bartenders are very knowledgeable, great burgers and steaks for reasonable prices.
- High drink prices, clueless female bartender who looked like she would rather spit than smile, slightly claustrophobic saloon side.
“McGarvey's is a local favorite, especially for their raw bar. Drink prices are the most expensive in town, but the pours are liberal and the bartender has a promo check to use if he likes you. The menu is traditional Americana, with some unusual stuff like Lumpia with plum sauce thrown in. An all-around nice place to eat, but don't bring your children, they are not welcome, hence the word Saloon in their title.”

- Wait staff were nice and pleasant.
- The food was awful.
“The wait staff was great, the food looked great. The taste of our food was downright nasty and awful. The crab cakes if you would call them that were the worst I have ever had in Maryland. The tiny cup of coleslaw that came with my burger was nasty as it was drowned in mayonnaise and had no flavor either. I think they need to get chef Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen there to teach them how to cook. We were thinking about coming back late one night for a meal but now we wont be back ever again.”

- Everything.
- Very popular, so it was busy.
“Rams Head is home to the Fordham Brewery. Great pub type food and awesome atmosphere. From the dark, cozy pub in the basement to the open air beer garden covered in wisteria, lots of places to eat.”
