• Not much--sometimes a smoky smell from the bar.

“I have gone here several times, since I work down the road from it. It's a typical diner type establishment--food is ok. Reasonably priced. Wait staff has always been pleasant, though a little overwhelmed at times, occasionally surly. I usually get the hamburger & fries (not sure why you had order scallops at this place). The perch sandwich is pretty good too. Do not expect a high class place--it's for people who just want something, kind of reminds me of a remodeled "dive".”

“Dinner for 3 was ordered and finally came after waiting 35 minutes. Salad which was included with dinner was brought right away, however, two coffees were refilled once and I had to ask for the refill. Three other tables were eating before we got our dinners. I ordered bread and scallops which tasted burnt and were so hard I couldn't get the fork into it. Our waitress was tending bar and cleaning tables so I brought it to the attention of the other waitress who was vacuuming and she took the scallops back and said they got a bad batch and asked if I wanted anything else. I figured since my family was already eating, I wasn't going to wait any longer and didn't order any thing else. Our waitress brought the bill and said she took my dinner off the bill, then she left and returns to say I have to pay for the salad I ate, which was included with the dinner. There was never an apology except to say sorry you have to pay for the salad. I asked to see the manager and said there was none there, but the salad was taken off the bill. The salmon and perch weren't the best either on the other two dinners. This was my first and last visit.”

• Closes to early.

“The Wanigan has the best sandwich in town. It is a staple of Bay City. They do have odd hours and close around three in the afternoon.”

• Very busy at certain times.

“A secret gem in Bay City - best onion rings to be found in Michigan. Good, plentiful, food for the budget conscious. Recommend.”
