- The waitress was tired.
- Marginal food and very bad ambiance.
“I can easily say this was one of the two worst restaurant experiences I've had in 5 years, the other being in Santa Fe New Mexico. On entering the foyer, you were greeted with a pile of dirty dishes in the foyer left of the door. The windows were dirty, including bird poop on ours. The window sill was covered in crumbs. There was a spider web directly over my wife's head. They do not have a wine list. After a long wait, we were brought four bottles of wine to pick from. The first wine glasses were received were tiny, seemingly for chocolate mousse and they were dirty. We sent them back and despite appropriate wine glasses being on the other tables, we didn't get any. The chicken roll was overcooked and I only ate half of it. The salad served on plates was too small and only 2 dressings were available. All around us, tables were left with dirty dishes and one table was even served their dirt before their dirty dishes were cleared. The menu, which was leather enclosing a sheet of paper, was stained. We tipped our waitress well, because she tried to serve. We were offered free desserts, but just wanted to leave. This kitchen was badly run. And the overall impression when you enter the restaurant, from floors that needed sanding years ago, to sad tired furniture, gives a feeling that there was so much dirt you wouldn't want to see what goes on in the kitchen. This time, we truly never will go back and cannot recommend this restaurant.”

- Sophisticated food without the stuffiness in a totally unexpected venue.
- None.
“I was raised in a prominent Cincy restaurant family and am very picky. This place is great! Our waitress could not have been more helpful or charming! We had wonderfully homemade sauerkraut balls and I don't even like sauerkraut! I had the pan fried tilapia and it was light, fresh and appealing with homey green beans with ham and red potatoes. My husband, who travels frequently for business, had the Cuban beef stew and loved it. Tender beef and much flavor. Much more sophisticated food than you would expect without thr stuffiness. We did eat downstairs with a view of the river. If that makes the food taste that much better, then so be it - but this is not the case. Charming place, great food, and wonderful view of the river. What more can you ask!”

- View of the river.
- The food is inexcusably bad.
“I don't understand why this restaurant remains in business, much less why it has such a positive reputation. It had any competition, it would close. The food is simply awful. It reminds me of bad nursing home food. I'm afraid this is an instance in which the emperor has no clothes. Augusta is a quaint, charming town with beautiful vistas of the river. Take i-71 to the nearest cracker barrel, and then drive to Augusta to walk around and enjoy it. You'll be much the better for it.”

- The downstairs atmosphere is wonderful. Reminds me of Williamsburg, Va.
- Upstairs is dark, dingy, and dirty looking.
“Our first visit to the Beehive was a disaster! First :You must have a reservation, which we had made. Second: They did not have our reservation listed. Third :We had our elderly parents who are in their mid eighties along with us and they had us climb very narrow, steep steps to the second floor. The room was dark and our table was speckled with candlestick wax...no tableclothes. Fourth:The waitress was not very sympathetic to our feelings. She did not serve us well, we had to keep asking for food items. We left her the standard tip,but we hated to give her anything. Fifth:When we were leaving my father in law said he hoped to sit downstairs next time and she responded that our reservation was made for Friday not Saturday. We asked to see the book where it listed us for Friday and she said that would be against "rules". We wanted this to be a special treat to our parents because we were celebrating Sweetist Day and they wanted to go after reading a good review in our newspaper. It is about an hours drive from Cincinnati. One we will never make again no matter how good the food is.”
