Vandy's Barbecue Of Statesboro

Overall Rating: 10
- Great BBQ, stew and plain old white bread.
- The looks may scare you away. That leaves more for the rest of us!
“I went to school in Statesboro. Vandy's was a legend back in the 60s. Every time I come thru the "boro", I stop for a large BBQ plate. Even though Charlie Pierce, the old gentleman who was the pit master died, the flavor, texture and overall goodness of the chopped pork hasn't changed. The mall store is ok. The food is still good but the original is the best. Don't be put off by the exterior. It isn't fancy at all but the food, well. welcome to Vandy's, now go away and leave the food to us!”

- Food, friendly service, casual atmosphere.
- Closes too early.
“Best I have ever had. The pit master is legendary. Go to the downtown location where the pit is located, but don't be fooled by the outside. Inside is a genuine southern barbecue joint, and I see families, students, business people, and from all walks of life. The service is fast and the prices modest. A small plate with two sides (good potato salad and a great stew) is about $8, and I have trouble finishing it all. Don't forget the great sweet tea (yes, it really is one word). Make sure you call for hours of operation, because they seem to close early some nights, including the weekends.”
