- Quality of food; prices.
- I do not think I have anything negative to say.
“Really great food! Delicious and Affordable. Where else around here can anyone get the most delicious Fillet Mignon for 17 bucks! I do not think anywhere but at Le Chef. They used to be in Downey when I was younger but now they reside in South Gate which is about a 10 minute drive for me. Definitely worth it! You will not be disappointed. Everything is so delicious. I do not think I have tried anything I did not like. For the local resident or for the traveler. This is a must stop place for Lunch and/or Dinner.”

“If you are a lover of 'birdie' then this the place! So tender and tasty. With their endless supply of freshly made tortillas, especially the corn ones, fantastic! Very diverse menu and very reasonable fare. Highly recommend this place to all.”

- The salsa was delicious.
- Too bright. No music. Two drink maximum. No seafood. I love kids, but am like chucky cheese.
“My friend and I visited the restaurant on a Sunday evening some time in the beginning of January. We had stopped by Gloria¿s in Downey just before that but as always on a Sunday there was a long wait so we decided to try la barca. We knew it would also be crowded but we had our hearts set on having some good Mexican food in a nice Mexican style atmosphere, so we thought. This restaurant plays no music whatsoever. There are television screens all around set up high. When we were there they were showing some tennis match; what does that have to do with la barca or Mexico? The restaurant is very loud and very bright. To start our meal we ordered oysters and two coronas. The waiter told us that they do not serve oysters there. My friend and I looked at each other because we had our hearts set on eating oysters that evening. We asked the waiter if they had a juke box or if they played music. He told us that it is a "family" restaurant and that there was a two drink maximum. We both felt that his comment and the restaurant policy were ridiculous so we paid for our drinks and went back to Gloria¿s. Apparently la barca feels that children don't listen to music and they have a special interest in tennis. - if you don't mind a very bright restaurant where you are forced to listen to everyone's conversations and watch TV with no volume, then this is the place for you. For the rest of us there's Gloria¿s in Downey.”
