“Nice large clean rooms and very quiet. A good deal at the price I paid. It is two star. Weaknesses in include crumby TV and remote (even after replacing the remote), weak WiFi, and a dicey neighborhood. I've stayed here several times and will again, but don't count on good TV or WiFi.” Aug 11, 2009 by
Brianne from Renton,WA
“The location was great. It was close to I-80 and had easy access to the Bay Bridge into San Francisco. It was also easy to get into Oakland and other surrounding areas. There was a nice, upscale shopping mall a few blocks away. The stairs smelled terribly, like a mixture of stale cigarette smoke and strong cleaners. But the room smelled fine and was sufficiently clean. They did not provide many towels and only 2 bars of soap, no shampoo or lotion. The air conditioning was not turned on when we arrived so the room was a little too warm. The AC was quite loud and woke us up several times during the night. Overall, it was a fine hotel for our needs and the amount of money we spent.” May 14, 2009 by
John from Rapid City,SD
“I requested a different microwave (turntable not working, power setting only worked on high). I requested stoppers be fixed in bath sink, and tub. I called several times, and by the end of the week none of the above were fixed. When a location charges a fee for Internet, and bills it as high speed it should be able to download a file faster than 32K the typical evening rate. Obviously Emerville has some problems, not the usual quality I get at extended stay in America.” Jan 19, 2009 by

“For the money it is great! Easy access, quiet, spacious room with microwave and full sized refrigerator.” Jan 1, 2009 by

“Location was good for being near bay bridge, access was a little tricky but close to many attractions and well priced. Staff was friendly, would stay again.” Oct 2, 2008 by

“Hotel was undergoing major renovations during our stay, which likely skews our ratings. Staff was always helpful and responded to our requests immediately. Rooms were surprisingly quiet, given proximity to interstate (excellent window soundproofing). Hotel is located between major shopping area and graffiti-covered overpass. Security was visibly present and we had no problems, but some travelers might be uncomfortable with this location. There is no restaurant, pool and courtesy computer.” Sep 3, 2008 by

“Very Dirty! I will never stay there again and I'll be sure to tell my partners at Bayer Pharmaceuticals.” Sep 3, 2008 by
Susan
“This place overlooks a freeway on ramp and is depressing to stay in. The rooms make Motel 6 look luxurious. The staff is indifferent at best. The best thing about it was free parking.” Sep 3, 2008 by

“The beds were hard, I had a horrible night sleep.” Jul 25, 2008 by

“I would only recommend this hotel to someone who's only other option was to sleep on the street.” Jul 2, 2008 by

“This hotel was more for the working class that needed a place to stay. While it was sufficient for our needs, we spent little time since there were no places to eat or things to do.” Jun 13, 2008 by

“Ex. Stay America-Oakland/Emery is a clean, modern, very basic, studio-room hotel. Very convenient to basic shopping, with upscale shopping and dining about 1 mile away. Easy public transit (bus) access, though 1.4 miles from BART. Free parking and adjacent to Expo center. Good for business travel or budget minded. Bare-bones hotel services & minimalist housekeeping makes it less desirable for family or non-economy traveler.” Jun 11, 2008 by
David “Smelled like smoke from the time I walked in. Vending machines took my money and didn't give any product, had to request a different room because of smoke.” Apr 25, 2008 by
Patrizia
“When I arrived it was very late but the hotel clerk was very friendly. The hotel rooms are all inside the interior a bit dingy, but the room was nice and clean and I would recommend for people who just need a clean, safe place to stay. Not for romantic get way but definitely kid friendly. Next to nice shopping center.” Apr 17, 2008 by
Sherri
“We had the fire alarms going off during our stay. We had a notice about the fire alarm but, it was for a different date. The room had a terrible odor. We had to keep the windows open (next to a freeway). The carpets were stained. The rooms need to be updated to match the outside of the building.” Feb 20, 2008 by

“The hotel was great and we had a nice room but the bed was a little hard.” Feb 1, 2008 by

“This is an extended stay hotel and was not something that I was used to staying at. I was expecting to get a nicer hotel.” Dec 13, 2007 by

“If you get a room not on the highway side and not on the 4th floor than all is okay. Be careful about walking alone a night in the area. Enjoy.” Nov 15, 2007 by
Deb
“A good location and friendly staff.” Aug 22, 2007 by

“We have stayed at an E S A before with a much better experience. This was pretty bad (in comparison.)” Aug 13, 2007 by
Erica
“The staff at this hotel were not particularly helpful. I had a number of problems with the room which were not addressed in a professional manner. The directions to get to the hotel were difficult to follow especially at night and the neighborhood you have to pass through seemed dangerous.” Nov 15, 2006 by
Anna
“Nice hotel for travelers who want to have a full kitchen. Wireless aces is not free but very reasonable.” Oct 3, 2006 by
Jim
“The hotel isn't in the best of areas and would have been worried if my wife was there alone in that situation. Other than that, hotel was fine. Close to shopping in Emeryville.” Sep 7, 2006 by
Paula
“Room would have been ok, if all the parts were in working order and there were light bulbs in the lights.” Aug 23, 2006 by
Janeen
“A big thumbs down. We were desperate for a last minute stay due to home renovations, but this was a dump. They put us on an all smoking floor - we have asthma! The security doors on both rooms we tried did not work. No shampoo or any other amenities standard to hotels. The light bulbs were burnt out. I felt lucky to find a new bar of soap and clean towels.” Aug 8, 2006 by
Stephanie
“The back door of the hotel was open - easy access for crime right off the freeway. Long, dark empty hallways. Squeaky, hard bed. Door to bathroom didn't stay closed. I felt unsafe. I would definitely not stay here again.” Jul 3, 2006 by
Mark
“I really liked it. When I first arrived, the staff were very friendly. The only problem I had, which was quite frustrating, is that when I called the front desk to obtain an internet access code I was given a number to call. I called this number several times in 20 minutes and only received a busy signal. I then called the front desk but the line was picked up by their national call center and the person was unable to give me an access code - I was told to call back in a few minutes. An hour later, I had had more conversations with the national call center but no one at the front desk. When I went downstairs, it took 10 seconds to get the access code. At first no one understood what had happened. Evidently someone was testing something and had left the call forwarding on without changing it back. Frustrating but not a deal breaker. Great place, I would stay there again.”
