• Initially the rate but Holiday Inn Express is better at about the same rate.
• Requested king but got a double. Bathtub/Shower didn't drain. Poor bathroom lighting.

• The room was either too hot or cold and not so clean.

“The room was smallish, the maid service was minimal and it was loud late at nice. Also the AC was by the window so it was freezing over there but hot on the other side of the room.”

“Highly recommended. Great value for the price! Close to Woodbury Common Outlets (15min drive), Palisade Center (15 minutes drive) and only 2 minute drive to train station where you can catch a roundtrip fare to NYC for only $11.00! Great location! Great staff! Rooms are clean and the beds are very comfortable!”

• Price/quality ratio.

“I wasn't happy totally with my stay, but maybe I was just unlucky. First 10 min in my room I noticed: The bath lighting was poor/yellow, there was someone’s melted leftover ice-cream in the fridge, a broken shelf in the fridge, no back to the remote and ice machine on my floor didn't work. My second night there, the maid service didn't take a bag of trash out. I will probably not stay here again. Also, it’s on a divided highway that has exits about every mile. It's not convenient for going out and getting food or groceries because you have to double back anytime you leave and come back.”

“All my requests were denied until I was forced to go higher and higher. I wouldn't have complained if the hotel was a good quality hotel but it wasn't. The smell kept us up all night. The bathrooms had mold growing around the tub and in general the rooms weren't very clean. The halls had food trays left in them, and also smelled of cigarette smoke. I asked to be changed but they said they didn't have another room. In the next days we were given what they called non smoking rooms, but the smell came in though the bathroom vents. These new rooms also had mold in the bathrooms. I was guaranteed a 3 star hotel and this hotel by no means of that quality.”

• Very attractive hotel with large, clean rooms. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Visibility from highway was an asset and made it easy to locate.
• Internet access for computers in the Business Center were down and didn't know when it would be available.

“Easy to locate from highway and is a beautiful hotel from the outside. Has all the amenities on-site with clean, spacious rooms. Enjoyed the pool and fitness center. Only drawback was the hotel is isolated from malls, other eateries and must have a car nothing within walking distance.”

“Mahwah, NJ is not a destination, but for a place to stay on your way to somewhere else, the hotel was fine. Nothing to set this place apart from others like it, but everything was as it should be, in regards to cleanliness, convenience, etc.”

“I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family. The staff is very friendly. Check in and check out was done very quickly and efficiently. Our keys were ready and the line moved quickly due to very well trained staff. Good location (literally off the highway). Very satisfied with my overall experience.”

“Out of all my travels, this hotel definitely ranks up there with the best. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. The restaurant was quite a treat - the food was very tasty. I would recommend friend and family, for sure!”

• Buffet breakfast is way too expensive.

“Room was comfortable and the bed and bedding were very nice. Staff was cordial and competent. The walls are not very soundproof but fortunately the hotel seems to attract business travelers during the week that don't party. The rooms facing Rt.17 will draw road noise but you can drown it out with the fan on the space heaters.”

• I loved the indoor heated pool! Was like oversized hot tub!
• The only bad comment I can say is that I found a dirty sock under the bed! LOL.

“The hotel was very convenient - right off the highway but yet you couldn't hear the highway noise from in the room. The room was spacious and the beds very comfortable. The indoor heated poll was like being in an oversized hot tub - although the deepest depth of the pool was not even 5 feet - so no diving. The steakhouse was really good although the service was a bit odd as we had more than one server. When we checked in we were given a nice hot cookie which I thought was a nice touch, although my friend couldn't eat his because they contained walnuts. I thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone.”

• The staff was very friendly and the rooms were very clean.
• Being on the south side of the highway in order to go north you needed to go a few miles south to find a turn around, this was a pain.

“The hotel was very clean and the staff members were very friendly. We were arrived 2 hours before check-in and the front desk clerk said it was no problem and quickly checked us in. The pool was very warm and kid friendly. We enjoyed our stay.”

“We enjoyed our stay tremendously. my husband and I took a weekend away from the kids. There are many restaurants in the nearby area. We also went to the outlets which was not too far away. Check out time was 12, not 11, which was great.”

• The rooms needed to be updated; the shower went from hot to cold, making it uncomfortable to say the least.

• The bathroom sink was cracked and the water spiket in the tub did not even line up with the hole in the wall.

• Free cookie and newspaper in AM, excellent showers, curtain rods and shampoos.
• The heater in the room had no sign on it to let us know that we had to use the thermostat to make it work; we had to call the front desk.

“Comfortable soft beds, nice atmosphere. Clean room and lobby. Excellent warm cookies upon arrival. Loved the shower and Neutrogena shampoo, conditioner, lotion and soap. The front desk staff and cleaning crew were very nice and hospitable. Would definitely go back.”

“Clean, comfortable chain hotel, fine if you need something in this location and can get it for a good price. Bathroom and amenities fine, but walls are thin we had to listen to the TV from the adjoining room. In room coffeemaker was good, but that's all you get: no breakfast and no free coffee in the lobby.”

“I was not pleased. On day one the fixture in the shower fell off the wall and almost injured me. After complaining and promised that it would be fixed, it again happened the second day apparently it had not been secured on the wall. The hotel also seems to welcome large groups. On my floor there was a loud party in which several rooms were open and the hall was used. I have stayed there more than once and this seems to be the rule and not the exception. Finally, despite the free internet, getting it to work can be a challenge.”

• Our bathroom was clean but needed renovation.

“Staff was very helpful. Made sure to give me 3 cookies on check in when they saw we had a child. Gave us a ns room with 2 beds even though very full. Brought us extra towels in less than 5 minutes. I also appreciated check out at noon, not 11. This hotel was a great value!”

• Spacious room with refrigerator and microwave.
• Non-smoking room had bad odor.

“Clean and spacious room with a refrigerator and a microwave which became very useful during my short stay. The only problem I had was that the room (non-smoking) was full of cigarette odor, requested to change the room, but the staff at the front desk refused my request saying that they have no more rooms. I would rate this hotel a 2 1/2 stars, not 3.”

• Nice access to the NY. Steak House through Lobby.
• Soiled hallway &room carpeting, poor lighting, soiled towels, bed spread and pillows, no CD player, undesirable room TV, and early closing hours.

“I would not recommend this Hotel to family & friends as a 3 Star hotel. Within a mile radius I would highly recommend the "Courtyard Marriot and the Sheraton as a cleaner and more upscale Hotel. I truly believe with all due respect the Double Tree should be reevaluated especially being in the Hilton Hotel family.”

• I liked the mattresses.
• The non-smoking room smelled overwhelmingly of cigarettes and the shower had low water pressure. I'm not a fan of the cookies at check-in.

• Lots of pillows and warm cookies on arrival.
• Breakfast not included with stay.

“The Doubletree Mahwah, NJ is clean and appropriately appointed for an upscale hotel. In room AC was a bit loud, but the many pillows on each bed made for a posh feeling. They should, but don't, include a breakfast buffet. For the same $ the Sheraton Mahwah included a lovely breakfast, friendlier staff, and quieter room.”

“The bathroom in this hotel was what you would expect in a homeless shelter. The ceiling had mold oozing off of it. The staff gave me meal compensations. The condition should have never existed in the first place. The tub was also clogged upon our arrival.”

“For a hotel which isn't very old it has taken a beating. The bathroom door was cracked. The tub faucet was coming out of the wall. The tub had mold in the joints and under the soap dish. The large bathroom mirror was crooked. The room was small and needed a good vacuum cleaning. The entrance doors were dirty from finger prints. No spa in the pool area It was what I might have expected from a 1star motel on the roadside! The complimentary breakfast stunk. Watered down juice, cold scrambled eggs. We went down the street to the diner and paid for a decent breakfast.”
