• Attentive, polite staff, seemed to be trained in European discreteness and polite.

“We came to Sofitel for a special occasion get away as a couple. From the moment we walked in we felt like we were back in Europe. The quiet, attentive discrete staff greeted us, made our dinner reservation and brought us a menu for our restaurant. The turn-down service and in-room amenities were delightful. We also had a great view of the sunset. Loved every minute of our stay.”

• The entire staff was always on the lookout to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.
• The Euro-Disco music that plays continuously in the lobby and outside is atrocious.

“The Sofitel Water Tower is located in the River North area within easy walking distance of State St., Rush St. and Michigan Ave. It is the perfect location for people like us who prefer to not be in the hustle and bustle but don't mind a short walk to get right in the action. The always attentive, helpful and friendly staff made sure our needs were met whenever we asked. One of the concierge, even recognized us sitting at a street side cafe several blocks from the hotel. She smiled, waved, and said hello even though she was off for the day and could have simply ignored us as she passed. That she didn't reflects well on the hotel and was representative of our treatment by the entire staff from the doormen to housekeeping to the front desk. The only downside for us was that our opportunities to relax at the end of the day with a drink and people-watch were somewhat limited due to the previously mentioned hotel location and because the somewhat small, high-ceiling lobby wasn't as inviting as we would have liked. But that was fine because it's pretty easy to find places to people-watch in Chicago!”

• Location was great, staff was amazing and the room was perfect.
• I liked everything.

“Great place to stay in Chicago. It is close to the Red Line if you are going to a ball game, it is close to John Hancock building, Michigan Ave. shopping and N Rush street for some fun. The staff is superb and they are beyond accommodating.”

• Furniture in room show damage and wear greater than age of hotel.

“Good, quiet location, just a 2 minute walk from Michigan Ave and the Hancock tower. New adjacent buildings block any lake views that might have existed at one time. Contemporary design and furnishings are nicely done. The room was a bit smallish for a 4 star hotel but the large bathroom was a nice trade-off. I will probably try another hotel on my next visit but would not be disappointed at all if I ended up back at the Sofitel.”

• Clean rooms and good service.
• Lounge could have a bit more food options.

“Very nice hotel. My daughter and her husband live in Chicago and when we visit we will use this hotel again. The other couple we came with liked the hotel but prefer the drake. I think both have their place (modern Vs traditional) however I feel the sofitel is friendlier and the parking is less expensive which is always nice.”

• The beds were great, bedside tables on both sides, quiet and best bathroom ever.
• I would prefer to have a coffee maker in room, not only through room service.

“I loved the hotel. It was close to shopping, nightlife, and lake Michigan. It was easy to get a cab if we wanted to venture out. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was amazing. I would definitely stay there again.”

• Location, convinces, and cleanliness.

“This hotel is just super. They were very accomodating, as we had one king size bed and had two adults and one child. They brought in a large down filled feather bed and made a pallet on the floor for our granddaughter which she loved. That was so much easier that changing rooms and having less than a king size bed.”

• Loved the contemporary style and all the jazzy people.
• Drinks were pricey.

“Softie is a lovely hotel set just off of Michigan Avenue. The staff is very attentive and the entire joint gives you a very classy and important "feel. King bed room was very small with not much "frills" but very clean and the bed was outstanding. Bathroom was just about as big as the room itself and the shower were excellent. Great pressure and just enough space for 2.Highly recommend for a romantic night or two with a loved one! Not for kids.”

“We use it quite frequently for both business and leisure travel and Sofitel-Chicago certainly met or exceeded our expectations. The front desk, bellman and concierge staffs were friendly and accommodating. The hotel is centrally located near water tower in downtown Chicago and Pizano's pizza on state street which is the best pizza in Chicago, by far!”

• The concierge was excellent and treated me like royalty!
• I expected nicer electronics for the star-rating. The outdated TV looked very out of place!

“Expect to be waited on at this hotel. The concierge employees are empowered to make decisions (i.e. Upgrade your room) without management approval, which makes for great customer service if you need anything at all! The rooms are very modern with a luxuri”

• Did not like the prices in the bar--very expensive. It's Chicago, not new York.

• Walls are thin - no top sheets on bed - small rooms.

“The location was great. Just a couple blocks to the Hancock, Water Tower and Oak Beach. Felt very safe walking around. Very nice neighborhood. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are small but enough room for my husband and I. The bathroom is very nice. The walk-in shower is wonderful. The walls/floors are extremely thin though and the TV from the person above us woke us at 115 am. Security took care of it fairly quickly though. I found it odd that the bed had no flat top sheet, just the duvet/down comforter. I asked and they stated this was customary. I hope these get washed every day. I did tell them that I found that odd and they stated my account would be marked to provide one if I should choose to join them again. A good experience overall.”

• No mention of fitness facilities in in-room literature. Shower water pressure very bad! Terrible view!

“The hotel is in a good location. It is very contemporary in decoration. Beautiful flowers in lobby. The room service was very good. Concierge services were also very good. We were treated well. The shower water pressure was very poor. Also, at checkout our room bill was conveniently not available so they mailed it to us, which we were charged for the 3rd night when our room was actually prepaid. It was courteously taken care of after contacting hotel. Bar was very small and uninviting and there was very poor selection for appetizers/food.”

• The staff were genuine. Sometimes people can be too formal. The staff we encountered were real!!!
• There was no coffee machine in the room. I need my coffee before I start my day.

“Right when we walked up we were greeted by multiple friendly people opening doors, telling us where the bars and restaurants where and answering any other questions we had. The service was fantastic, even at the restaurant when we said we were in a hurry because we had to get to a wedding, the gave us first class attention and the food was excellent. The hotel is just cool in general. The interior is kind of a contemporary vibe. The beds are super comfortable with feather comforters. I've stayed at a lot of nice hotels in downtown Chicago, and I think this is my favorite. It location is right where I want to be too.. Nightlife on one side and shopping and restaurants on the other. Great time!!!”

• A room with 2 beds has extremely small beds. A man would not fit.

• Rooms were small.

“Overall this hotel was great. We were traveling with young children and the doormen always made sure the doors were opened for my double stroller. The location was the best we have ever had in Chicago. Close to shopping and entertainment. Rooms are very nice and bathrooms are top quality. My only complaint is that the rooms are small and it is hard to accommodate a family in them.”
