• Tranquil setting. Pleasant grounds. Calm atmosphere in hotel. Very comfortable room, especially the bed.
• Restricting that the front door was locked at midnight. Could guests have a key?

“Despite being out of the centre of the city, everything was still very accessible. The man who checked me in on arrival was particularly personable and welcoming. Service at breakfast was very efficient without being obtrusive and the quality of the food was very good. Everything about the room was of high quality. I would be very happy to stay again.”

“The only disappointment was the fact that from the pictures on the internet, it looked like it was in the country, set back from any other buildings, which in fact, it was along a busy street with a school next door. Despite this, it was not noisy and really did not detract from our stay. We were also late coming in one evening and they had made provision for us to call them on a phone so we could be let in - very kind and hospitable. We enjoyed our stay immensely.”

• Beuatiful House and exquistely decorated, and excellent value for money
• The full English Breakfast was not up to standard. The reception (for the staff) was very cramped and therefore didn't give a good impression to the customer

“For the price and the location I would definitely stay there again. I have stayed in much more expensive hotels with more facilities, but they just don't have the character and charm of this hotel, which makes the experience much more homely and gives a good impression of British history & culture.”

• Comfortable, clean room with lots of room in the bathroom
• Having no restauant for evening meals with a long walk to the nearest eating place

“An excelent hotel with first class service at breakfast. A varied menu and We particularly liked the haddock and kippers.

The four poster bed made for a fun weekend”

• The atmosphere at the Meadowcroft was exceptional. Very stately, very British, very quiet and peaceful.
• Everything was wonderful.

“We want to especially recognize the young lady who worked the front desk, delivered room service, called our taxi. She was on duty from early in the morning until late at night and seemed to perform a myriad of duties. The room service meals we ordered were delicious and the portions ample. We wish we could have stayed longer. Definitely four stars out of four.”

“We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The inside and outside of the house are beautiful. The room was pretty and very cosy and the shower fantastic! Everything was spotless and extremely quiet.And the staff very pleasant. For a booking over the web, it was an excellent surprise!”

• Quiet, and nicely old-fashioned for this elderly man!
• No afternoon orevening restaurant meals.

“Travelling without a car, I found that the hotel was a long way from all shops and restaurants, so the total cost of taxi travel amounted to '42 in 24 hours. For that additional cost, I could have stayed at a more central hotel. and used the taxi service only for the journeeys from and to the railway station. My recommendation would therefore be very high for those with a car, but low for those without.”
