• Very small room, no chair for clothes, one toothmug only, poor shower, no choice at breakfast, no sittingroom for guests, young inexperienced staff.

“I would have liked more description of the rooms, and tho it said a stone's throw from Cambridge it was a 10 min bus ride, much too far to walk also no busses run on a Sunday. All in all poor value for money.”

“The hotel is by a roundabout on a busy road in a residential area. The staff's English is poor so getting advice about Cambridge is difficult.”

• It's closeness to the bus stop
• Breakfast was prepared in microwave which I didn't like at all.

“For the price we paid we got what you would expect I suppose. Didn't realise that Cambridge is an expensive city so this will explain for teh cost of accomodation in general. The room was serviced every day with clean towels provided.There was just a feeling of not really clean about the place. It suited us for the price we wanted to pay but if you are looking for a normal standard of accomodation this is below that standard.”

• Not ensuite, tacky, not very nr city centre, hairs in bed, shoddy, credit card process?

“I thought it was going to be a lot nearer to the city centre and we didn't realise it wasn't an en-suite. I was also expecting the quality of the interior to be a lot better, warmer and to not contain other people's hairs.”

• Friendly, welcoming, and homely.
• Breakfast hours differed w/ends vrs w/days. Too early and guest should be told.

“Was pleasantly surprised with the accomodation. Room was warm, clean and welcoming. Breakfast hours had short time frame, begining quite early and differed weekends to weekdays. This was not pointed out, and notice on kitchen door didn't catch the eye. Breakfast was tasty.
Very friendly staff who were helpful. Very enjoyable stay.
Bus stop to city centre at the doorstep.”

• I was upgraded to a large room with en-suite facilities
• Unfortunately the only staff I saw had a poor grasp of English and the room had not seen a Hoover for some time

• Breakfast was different beans where spicey, no real vegetarian option, just beans and egg

“It was a bizare experience, arriving at the hotel at 8:30 it was closed and to me looked empty, no one answered the bell, and no one answered the phone number given on the confirmation and on the door, just an answering machine, I have not heard from the hotel at all. After a while I gave up and started to prowl Cambridge for other accomodation”

• unclean bed linen and ensuite. No-one on site when we arrived.

“We had to phone on our mobile phone for someone to arrive to let us in and then had to wait five minutes. The fans in the adjoining toilet and shower room were very noisy and kept us awake. We were dissapointed with the cleanleness of bed linen and ensuite. We also felt that the breakfast was not very generous.
The staff were very helpful and friendly.”

• Ample parking, friendly staff, Fair size room, good mattress on the bed. Very good coffee served at breakfast time.
• Window had to remain open during the night as there was a cable fed through the open window from outside to most probably the TV.

“For 1 night's stay it was fine, but we would probably not stay longer - breakfast was a choice of cereal or bacon and eggs, which was 2 rashers of bacon, an egg and some spicy baked beans. No offer of sauces (tomato or brown). Plenty of jams/marmalade, and when requested, extra toast arrived. Bus stop to travel into the centre of town literally on the doorstop. We were not offered informaton about what pubs/restaurants were in the vicinity, although we noticed the next day there was a pub just down the road. The shower control did not work properly, neither did the taps at the basin, which is actually in the bedroom (took a bit of effort). The electric kettle in the room was full of lime scale, and it did not switch off automatically. There was plenty of tea and coffee, not enough milk, and a packet of biscuits, which contained 3 biscuits for the 2 of us. Local newsagent just across the road which was handy for any odd bits of pieces of shopping that may be required.”

• Excellent service. The owner is very friendly and polite. Food good and guesthouse very clean.
• Room fronted onto very busy main road. So could be noisy, but only if windows are left open.

“Overall I was very pleased with my stay at the Ashtrees guesthouse.
It is certainly good value and the service is very friendly and attentive. I would most certainly recommend it to friends and colleagues coming to stay in Cambridge as it is not really far from the city centre and the university. One point though, perhaps it would be helpful to include the bus route number that goes past the guesthouse, as it would make this lovely place easier to find!”

• We got what we paid for- adequate service.

“The description of the accomdation on the website was very accurate- told me that the room didn't have it's own shower so there was nothing unexpected.
The accomodation was fairly basic but it served out purposes well.”
