• Close to the City Centre; Car park facilities.
• Reception staff did not look very welcome. Furniture was quite old.

• Everything worked and was comfortable - Nasty stain on the bed cover though

“The only problem we had was being refused service at the hotel bar. When I asked for a reason the bar man / bouncer couldn't give me one. We were two liverpool fans sat in a quite corner who had caused no trouble what so ever.... unlike some of the other guests!
We paid a lot of money for this hotel and chose to stay in cardiff so we could have a drink after the match. If we had been causing trouble or were deemed as being drunk then I wouldn't have had a problem but we were neither and to add insult to injury no explanation was given.”

“I understand that the hotel recently changed hands. So allowances can be made for a slow check in and an even slower check out (I can only assume a change in operating systems). But for the grade of hotel the standard of room was I'm sorry to say, poor!

The room was dingy and the furniture in a very bad state with pieces of veneer hanging off and stained by drinks. Chairs with thready edges and the carpet was covered in stains.

The above appeared quite insignificant when on the Sunday we lost the use of water in the bathroom (I mean not able to flush the loo have a shower or even a cuppa before we checked out). In fact it would appear most of the hotel was in the same boat. And not even so much as an apology from reception staff (granted not their fault but none the less it would have been appreciated).

The information in rooms with regards to facilities (i.e opening times of the leisure area, restaurants etc was non-existant) a booklet supplied by Novotel in four different languages was wonderful'' if you were looking for a hotel, NOT if you were already there and just wanted some simple info (times) on facilities.

My final point (thank god I hear you say) is breakfast! how can Novotel justify charging 11.00 (good old English Pounds) for breakfast. Which I add wasn't part of our package as we were room only, but we weren't exactly kicking the door down to get to it at that price.

To summarise we did enjoy Cardiff but alas not the hotel (however the leisure area was great). Pitty because it was a weekend break to celebrate my Boyfriends 30th Birthday.

• Staff were friendly and efficient & hotel was clean

“This hotel had good points and bad points. The staff were very friendly and the service was good but unfortunately a few things could have been nicer. I was staying in the hotel with a large number of my family members, most of whom had no water in their rooms overnight and in the morning due to a problem with the hotels water system, so couldnt take showers/baths, get drinks of water etc, one relative had a non-smoking room which smelt of smoke.”

“Good location, plenty of carparking, pool looked nice though didn't try it personnally. Breakfast was self service but the choice was good. Bedroom and bathroom were both a good size and bed was comfy!”

“The accomodation was slightly average for the price, but the check in staff were very helpful, especially when asking for directions around Cardiff.

The reception area was also immaculate and the structure of the building a delight!”

• Clean and suitable facitlities,would have liked to use tyhe leisure facilities but didn't have time. Good location around 10minutes from Cardiff City Centre and the CIA.
• Anything that wasn't including in the initial booking was very expensive i.e Breakfast was '13.95 each!!

“Great location and good price when booked online-however normal full price is triple the online price so save yourself '''''''''s and get online!!

The free parking was also a great saving as we were in Cardiff for two daysand if we had used a carpark this would have cost in access of '20!
Give yourself enough time to use the facilities and get your moneys worth otherwise a super mini-break with Cardiff being a great place for Christmas shopping and concert venue! The Darkness Rock!!”

• Basic room rate was relatively low cost for Cardiff
• Breakfast was inordinately expensive - no low cost option for continental breakfast Uncomfortable bed.

However, the 4th floor room was unsuitable for a normal sized person - low ceiling and small uncomfortable bed. Although tea and coffee facilities were provided in the room, there was no kettle.”

I changed my reservation to arrive 1 week earlier, instead of costing '65 B&B in a delux room, I ended up paying '75 bed only plus '13 for breakfast in an average room. I felt a bit hard done by”

“Very disappointed that the gym was not available - this was the main reason for booking this hotel - it shold have been noted on the website when booking. A more detailed map and directions would be helpful. However the reception staff were very helpful and friendly. Parking facilites excellent. Pleasant accomodation in a central location. Walking distance to shops and short taxi ride to excellent restuarants.”

“As mentioned the standard of furnishings in the room was very poor, the bed was very tatty and the mattress was extremely lumpy and thin, the ceiling had a huge wet patch and the paper was hanging off, the bathroom was OK but nothing great.
Overall the standard expected was higher than observed and a little disappointing for a hotel which is fairly new. If a bit more attention was paid to the quality of the rooms my opinion would be greatly improved”

• The coffee at breakfast. Why can't hotels make a decent cup of coffee??

“I regularly stay at the cardiff hanover hotel and apart from the fact that i couldn't use the gym, due to it being refurbished, everything was ok.The rooms are comfortable and clean. I don't eat in the hotel, i never do, so i can't say what the dinners are like.”

“This hotel provides simple accommodation in a covenient location. And at '50 per night is good value.However, on a short stay you do not need queries arising on booking-in, checking out, or your key reactivavting.I have not had any of these issues anywhere else this year, and I have been away quite a bit!My impression is that this hotel is struggling to get bookings.”

informed by staff that all single rooms are 'smoking', this information was not advertised at time of booking, a booking for a non smoking single was taken.
Single room was of poor standard - toilet seat broken, floor tiles cracked. When this was reported to reception it was already known and staff were not concerned about the risks to guests.”

• WE WERE NOT TOLD AT CHECK THAT BREAKFAST WOULD BE CHARGED FOR! THIS CAUSED CONFUSION!

“HOTEL AND OUR STAY WAS GENERALLY GOOD. WE WERE NOT INFORMED THAT THERE WOULD BE A CHARGE FOR BREAKFAST. WE WERE TOLD AT CHECK IN BREAKFAST TIMES AND THAT WAS ALL. WE THEN WNET FOR BREAKFAST THINKING IT WAS INCLUDED IN OUR PRICE. WE THEN FOUND IT WAS NOT WHEN WE WENT TO CHECK OUT. THIS THEREFORE WE WERE NOT HAPPY ABOUT. WE WOULD ALSO HAVE LIKED A 24HR BAR. APART FROM THAT WE WILL BE RETURNING AGAIN SHORTLY AND NEXT TIME WE WILL BE AWARE THE ROOM BOOKING DETAILS.”

• Central and quite easy to find. Good parking.
• Sheets did not fit bed! Hotel generally unclean and felt 'tired'

“Although the room was fairly clean public areas ie. stairs etc. were not.
Staff reasonably friendly. My request for sheets to fit the bed were met by putting another sheet on top which did not fit! However there were clean sheets the following day which did fit.
Everything else was just ok.
My husband and I run a business so find weekend breaks easier than long holidays but this one was a bit of a let down and we would not stay there again.”

• Paid for a very basic single but got a great twin room. Quiet.
• Hotel hard to find. Slight scum on one part of swimming pool.

“Didn't stay long enough to get much of a feel. Just ten hours. Hotel felt modern and spacious. But I hate buildings with odd roof-lines. I hope the designer got the aerodynamics right.”

• Peaceful, near city centre and bay, parking, conservatory and bar for after dinner drinks, good breakfast.
• Slow service in evening at restaurant,meals vary in standard,no vouchers for meals included.

“Overall this was a pleasant stay. Rather chaotic in the Restaurant due to new waiters and hotel refurbishment which affected the standard of service. Rooms were clean and tidy and staff were helpful and pleasant. Better checking out procedures would reduce the waiting at reception.”

“Very disappointed that the Hotel tried to charge us for someone elses room service. We also ordered Champange and chocolates as a suprise for my partner, when the goods were delivered to our room (I was advised that the goods would be in the room for when we arrived), the chocolates were from Boots and marked as 3 for 2 purchases!!”

“Pleasant stay. Think they should've had a brochure outlining the details/features of the hotel. They had some details available on a closed circuit TV channel however, it would take a while to find it and it wasn't comprehensive. The TV billing wasn't even close to accurate. Never had breakfast but, had one dinner which was OK. Price of the meal was what I expected to pay in a city center and quality of the meal was above average. Again, was a pleasant stay and I'd book with them again.”

“Booked on a room only basis - no continental breakfast available full at '12.00. Food in Hotel did not respresent value for money - had evening dinner in hotel, frozen veggie burger. No half bottles of wine available in Restaurant. Only house wine available in the bar - undrinkable. Hotel not in a Safe Area for Women on her own, taxis required after dark.”

• Food was not the best.

“The room is a little expensive for the quality, but all other services was cheap and of good standards. The room with the optional movie channels involved an extra payment of '7.50 for each movie channel you wished to watch, and each channel had 2 films showing in sequence all day.
Location was not too far from the city center, but did involve a 10 minutes walk.
A good hotel for a break but lacks the quality to be special.”

• Straightforward and exactly as I had requested.
• Difficult I know, but the other guests were very noisy (it was a Sat night) and we were woken up several times in the night by them. One had been sick on the stairs (although was cleared up promptly when I told a member of staff).

“I think the hotel is in a great location between the city and the bay therefore easy access to both. I wasn't that impressed with the food for the prices charged. The bar area is pretty small for the size of the hotel. Overall the staff were very efficient and the new part of the hotel is really fresh and bright.Overall we were looked after well and enjoyed our stay.”
