“This was one of the worst hotels I've ever been to. We had an all-inclusive package so everything was prepaid. When we got there we found out one major restaurant was closed for renovations and most of the others were missing half their menu every day. The air conditioning in the hotel broke one night and wasn't fixed until late the next morning. But the worst part was one night when we had raw sewage coming out of our pipes! When we called the front desk to complain they said they couldn't do anything because we were prepaid. A front desk manager finally agreed to give us some credit back to my card, but it never came. When I called the hotel to check on the status of the credit, they said only that manager could do anything and she was off for a month and to call back later. I've called back about 20 times over the past month to speak with two managers, and am told to either call back later or don't have my messages returned. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had, and I would definitely NOT recommend it to anyone. Stay somewhere else unless you want a dirty hotel with incompetent service!” Aug 28, 2009 by

“We stayed at the Morning Star for our 25th wedding Anniversary It was absolutely beautiful! Food is expensive but we were all inclusive. Staff and servers are for the most part very friendly but expect whatever you ask for on Island time. Once we were used to that we loved our stay. Morning Star is the place to stay. Yvette (server at Cocoa Joes) treated us like royalty! Thank you! We loved her! I was disappointed that they played Spanish music. I would have liked more Island/Native Calypso music otherwise, I would have went to a different Island.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.May 13, 2009 by

“This met the expectations one would have of a Marriott.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.Apr 27, 2009 by

“This resort was good for those who wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the central city. The best way to get to the central area was by ferry boat. All amenities were excellent. However I felt that I was given a lower quality room. Our room was on the lower level floor where the staff rooms are located. The carpet was stained and the entire floor had a fowl odor. I learned from one of the vendors that there had been a recent fire and the 1st and 2nd floors suffered some water damage. This would explain the fowl odor. This was an eight story facility, and there were plenty of empty rooms during my stay. I feel that better accommodations were available.” Mar 12, 2009 by

“The grounds and lobby of the hotel were quite luxurious. The pool area was a bit tired but clean and enjoyable. The beach and tennis courts were great. We especially enjoyed the shuttle to downtown.” Feb 17, 2009 by

“We stayed at the Morningstar Beach Resort and the rooms were big with a huge balcony. We were very close to the beach which was well kept and clean. There were plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas. They even have pails and shovels for kids to build sand castles. You can use them at no charge. The Marriott had a total of 5 restaurants between the Frenchman's Reef and Morningstar Beach Resort. We tried all of them and the food was pretty good. There was free shuttle service between the two parts of the hotel which made it very convenient.” Sep 11, 2008 by

“Hotel was very ill kept with many paths and stairwells that were without light and quite slippery as well as having heavy structural damage. The food was quite expensive with minimal choices and the staff quite aloof. I would not recommend it.” Sep 8, 2008 by

“Second trip to St. Thomas. Wish I would have stayed here the first time as well! Big rooms, friendly staff, and very clean.” Sep 5, 2008 by

“The staff support was extremely bad. They did not get an adaptor to solve our problem even asking 2 consecutive days and at the second day almost leaving they were planning to give us the address where to buy. Unacceptable. We have asked for a late check out at 1 pm since we bought at hotel a morning trip on the sea that finished at 12:30 pm, they have refused, they said maximum we could check out was 12 pm. We had to return without the right for a clean shower.” Aug 29, 2008 by

“Convenient. Close to airport. Nice rooms. Great beach. Greatly accommodating Morning manager and associates. Wonderful cleaning staff. Ice box in room. Only one very rude unaccommodating bar staff employee.” Aug 25, 2008 by

“I recently had my daughters wedding at the Frenchman's Reef. What a disappointment after spending all that money. The bride and groom was given the wrong room, I myself had the wrong room and my son's room had no air. The wedding was at 3pm and this hotel could not accommodate a party of 9 after the ceremony. We had to sit outside at the pool area until the restaurant opened at 6! In 90 degree heat in formal wear. You would think with all the wedding they have there they could at least have a room or something for the wedding party to sit and relax in an air condition atmosphere. We sat outside for over 2 hours. When finally able to enter the restaurant at 6 pm, the wedding table was not set and the air was not on. In a few minutes the fire alarm went off for over 15 minutes and was so loud we had to exit outside on the deck. When able to re enter the electric goes off! Again we sat in the heat with my daughter in her wedding gown along with all of us feeling the heat and humidity again. Never again and I would never recommend this place to anyone. They even close the bar and restaurant outside by the pool at 5 pm. Who closes this area at this time in the afternoon at a resort. It forces you to go inside for drinks which is outrageous and then complain cause you have no shirt or shoes on. This staff is unfriendly and this place needs a rude awakening for a resort. My first time in St. Thomas and we would never go again.” Apr 20, 2008 by

“Overall this is a very nice hotel, the location is ideal to watch sunsets, the surrounding water is beautiful, it was great to walk to the beach or use the pools, the boat ferry was a wonderful alternative to taking a taxi to the shopping area, we observed weddings taking place which appeared to be handled effortlessly, the staff was friendly and helpful.” Apr 15, 2008 by

“Over all this was a nice hotel, with several different services offered, rooms were large, although the mattress was not good quality, and not typical of Marriott hotels I've stayed in. We had a small refrigerator, no mini bar, and an unobstructed view of the bay. The views at the property were exceptional, including a private beach, and views of the bay and city of Charlotte Amalie. The hotel does not provide shuttle services to town or the airport, but taxis are readily available and were about $20 a trip (+tip), a small ferry is available at the hotel to down town and it runs hourly until 5:30 pm for $6(+tip) a person. Taxi charges were by the person and it didn't matter if there were 2 or 10 people, the prices were the same. The hotel restaurants offered a varied menu with entree prices ranging from $15-40, service was usually slow and not particularly attentive, although the food was good. I would rate this hotel a low 4 star.” Nov 11, 2007 by

“There were many issues with the hotel. First, I was given, in the words of the desk clerk, a 2 star room with mildew. The walk to the room was littered with cat droppings that were there for two days. Laundry and room service was late and the staff lied when asked to explain. After speaking with the manager I was moved to an appropriate room that while more spacious in not of the same quality as the 3/4 star rooms I rent in Abu Dhabi. When I changed rooms I left a GPS behind and was told that security would go collect it. After two days of being told the guest was not there I went to the room and recovered the unit from the guest who said he had not been approached and when he brought it to the front desk was told by the desk clerk with a wink to keep it "Finders - Keepers".” Oct 2, 2007 by

“Overall - outstanding - but suspiciously, the channels that carry football were unavailable during the timeframe of the games on Sunday (those were the only channels that had problems, and the access was only affected during the games. That was annoying.” Aug 4, 2007 by

“This hotel has a nice view and some very nice public spaces. Our room was well decorated and comfortable but surprisingly, the bathroom, especially the shower, was old and in poor condition.” May 7, 2006 by

“This is a great hotel a pleasant place to visit and I would highly recommend this hotel as a place to stay. The only drawback is that the hotel is isolated from town and because the activities end so early at the hotel the hotel should provided transportation into town for additional choice and pleasure after hours instead of taxi service. Very costly the taxi services charge. Also the hotel should offer transportation to and from airport as a service instead of expensive taxi service.” 25 of 28 people found this review helpful.
