“This hotel need to be updated 10 years ago, it what nearly a third world hotel.” Jul 30, 2008 by
Rodney from Huntsville, AL
“Hotel was dirty, noisy, slow service, bad surroundings, and tacked on a service charge that nobody mentioned when I checked in there. Would never stay there again at any where near that price.” Jul 14, 2008 by
Barbara from Richmond, CA
“Poor. One coming down the steps with a knife. Poor attitude of the staff. Rooms were old, water was leaking from a ceiling light, the next room - phone was not working for two days.” Jul 7, 2008 by
Phyllis from Dryden, ON CA
“I would recommend this hotel for travelers that are staying overnight after a flight into St. Thomas or an early morning flight. Within walking distance of the airport so save on the $20 or more cab fare for the 10 min walk.” May 22, 2008 by
Charlotte from Hamilton, OH
“Unsafe area; only close to shopping and nothing else. Not even restaurants are close (I guess they want you to eat all your meals at the hotel restaurant!).” Apr 15, 2008 by
Lisa from Pacific Grove, CA
“Good thing we had some extra cash! Driver was nice and picked us up on time. Would have left Magen's Bay sooner if we could. Definite tourist trap there! Go when the ships aren't in. Too many people during those times.” Mar 20, 2008 by
Pk from Springfield, IL
“Good location to airport and cruise port. Ocean view rooms very nice.” Mar 11, 2008 by
James from Columbus, GA
“Like most places that cater to the tourist industry on St. Thomas, the staff of this hotel was just as effective as they had to be. Nothing spectacularly good or bad. The only really serious complaint I had was that in the middle of high season, they had workmen banging and painting rooms and common areas in the early morning? Oh, and the hotel restaurant was not very good, avoid that.” Mar 7, 2008 by
Rebecca from Gloversville, NY
“Stayed in this hotel for one evening thankfully. The front desk staff was not at all friendly. They wanted to put us in a room facing the "beautiful" ballpark which is not so beautiful . I had my room switched to face the bay. Room service is stated to serve until 10:30 pm but actually only served when they wanted to. They sent the staff home because they were slow. Would not even consider using this property again.” Feb 22, 2008 by
Tom from Merrillville, IN
“OK for Location, definitely Overpriced.” Feb 13, 2008 by
Marsha from Fort Washington, MD
“The hotel needs to Improve it's was of handling concerns and doing it much faster. They seem to feel that it is okay for guest to be unconvinced for 1-3 days with no problem.” Dec 26, 2007 by
Avi from Atlanta, GA
“Only if you need the location near Downtown should you even consider this hotel. The Marriott is not too far away and is worth the 10 minute drive.” Sep 26, 2007 by
N. from Ottawa, ON CA
“My understanding is they are not supposed to do it.” Sep 8, 2007 by
Gordon from Gautier, MS
“Very poor facilities. Not a very safe location. Needs to be updated.” Aug 19, 2007 by
Dean from Waldorf, MD
“I only stayed one night and that was alright. However, for a Friday night I was expecting a little more than just drinking at the bar or playing casino.” Jun 27, 2007 by
Jim from Modesto, CA
“I have stayed all over the world and never had a more rude and lazy group of staffers in any hotel. Rooms that were reserved non-smoking 9 months in advance were no longer available at check in. Room not ready at 11 pm and staff flat out stating they were not going to make it ready until the next day. Sink not working and won't be fixed for 8 hours, toilet clogged at check in. Rooms were tolerable, but the staff almost ruined our whole vacation. When front dust was told of our room not being ready at check in they said with an attitude "not all rooms can be ready by 4pm we then asked, what about 11pm. They had no answer, but the attitudes are incredible. At one point they actually tried to throw us out of the lounge while we waited for a taxi. Unfortunately my family was with me so I had to restrain myself, otherwise I would have told them how we really felt. I can't imagine anyone staying here under any conditions.” May 21, 2007 by
Christina from Salt Lake City, UT
“We stayed at both properties, and it is completely inaccurate that the holiday inn should be given the same rating. There was no cold water coming out of the tap, and even after a staff engineer visited our room, we were told that it was 'just the way it is.' the water was hotter than room temperature and there was no way to alleviate the warmth of the water. The water pressure in the shower was also terrible as half of the water kept running through the faucet instead of through the shower head. The toilet was also required at least 3 flushes to remove waste from the bowl. Even though the TV came with cable channels, there was static on every single channel. While we were watching a movie on a cable channel, it suddenly cut out with an 'unusable signal' error in the middle of the movie. The general upkeep of the hotel is much lower than the wyndham. NAThe only good thing that came out of staying at the holiday inn was to make us grateful for the time we spent elsewhere for the rest of our trip.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.May 15, 2007 by

“Only a short stop will be advisable.” Apr 25, 2007 by
Jennifer from Freeport, NY
“I felt unsafe at this hotel, did not want to walk around the area surrounding it and was disgusted by the view from the room, the pool was something I may expect at a small town motel. This hotel may only be convenient to the ferries to other islands across the street.” Jan 14, 2007 by
Janice from Atlanta, GA
“Pleasant environment, great hospitality, conveniently located to airport.” Jul 19, 2006 by
Janice from Petersham, MA
“I had called to request a balcony room and was told all rooms had a balcony. I was not told it was a stand up only, not even room for a chair to sit outside.” Jul 6, 2006 by
Joe from Mechanicsville, VA
“Staff in restaurant not very friendly. Location to downtown and airport was convenient.” Jul 3, 2006 by
Mike from Alpharetta, GA
“This hotel is cheap and fairly dirty, but this I knew from previous stays here. The only reason that I ever choose this hotel is that usually my flights do not get in to St Thomas until late and I like to take the Charlot Amelia ferry to the bvi or St. John. If you are looking for any thing else than just a place to crash for the night I would not stay here.” May 11, 2006 by
Lee from La Grande, OR
“The Holiday Inn is right across from the ferry dock. Great location during daylight hours. Scary after dark outside the hotel because of people wanting handouts. Excellent restaurant. Nice rooms.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Mar 7, 2006 by

“Do not think this is a three star property. Water leak in room was not fixed in over two hours so they gave us free upgrade to suite or waterfront which was nice. Beds and pillows were good and linens were crisp and new. Room was clean. Room renovation is going on.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Feb 23, 2006 by
Tod from Deer Park, TX
“The Latino bar was half a block away, played loud all night with fights and dope dealing in the parking lot. Hookers lined the street next to and behind the hotel, were selling their wares with yelling and lots of loud booming traffic till 4:00 in the morning and at 5:30 the roosters started crowing, so there was very little sleep. The bell hop was the rudest man I have ever met. The desk staff was half and half, rude and pleasant. The room itself was ok, but poor plumbing. A room on the sea side may have been more tolerable. Do not even try to check in before 4:00 PM. Close to shops.” Feb 10, 2006 by
Sheila from Jersey City, NJ
“I have been using Holiday Inn or Windward Passage for years because of it's location. I can walk to Main street, the heart of the shopping center. Right across the is the ferry to Saint John. It has a wonderful pool (up to nine feet deep.) They have a daily van that goes to Megan's Bay. The Gym is not functional equipment was broken. The roosters serenade you starting at 3:00 am till 3:00 pm. If you are looking for a place that has access to all the places St. Thomas has to offer vs. a place to peacefully rest, Holiday Inn, Windward passage is for you.” Feb 6, 2006 by
Kevin from Atlantic Beach, FL
“Only stayed here because we were arriving late and wanted to be near the ferry the next morning. This hotel certainly does not deserve a 3 star rating.” Nov 24, 2005 by
Allison from Va Beach, VA
“Would not recommend this hotel at all.” Sep 1, 2005 by
Linda from Encino, CA
“The hotel is NOT a three star and was a disappointment to both myself and husband. This hotel rates 2-21/2 stars at best. The food seemed to be left overs rewarmed, room service was a jokeand the way business was conducted was appalling.Their was an incident with room service where what was expected was not what was recieved and after talking to manager of the restaurant, front desk and customer service representative the problem was still not resolved. I had to speak to the hotel manager to get the problem resloved, she was also upset about the way the incident was handled. Standards for hotels on the mainland should be the same standards for any other location for 3 star properties.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Jul 18, 2005 by

“Our experience at the Winward Passage was average. The staff members were not always friendly, but they did help us in getting a better room upon request. We also appreciated the daily drop off and pick up to the beach.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jun 15, 2005 by

“For the price range, Holiday Inn is quite a good deal especially for its location and the complimentary shuttle serice to Magens beach, however, I would rather pay a few bucks more to stay in Marriott Frenchman's Reef.” Jun 14, 2005 by
Scott from Cambridge, MA
“This hotel was conveniently located to the ferry terminal and shopping in Downtown Charlotte Amalie. It is in a run down neighborhood with vacant shoddy lots surrounding the hotel. There were quite a few young people staying in the hotel, riding the elevators up and down, hanging out in the hallways drinking. Although the room was clean, the in room safe was missing the lock mechanism. I would not recommend this hotel and instead would recommend staying a short cabride outside of Charlotte Amalie in a different hotel.” Jun 6, 2005 by
J. W. from Gainesville
“My overall stay here was average at best. For the money, I would have been better served to pay 10 or 15 dollars more per night and stayed at a better hotel. I was not pleased that the pool was off limits during pool hours for the scuba people to practice. The restaurant service was extremely slow and only a few servers were acyually pleasant. My most pleasurable experience at this hotel was with the front desk receptionist. She was wonderful. I don't believe I will stay here again, I just don't feel the hotel or service was justified by the cost. ” May 29, 2005 by
Tim from Versailles, KY
“Overrated. The Holiday Inn Windward Passage is an adequate hotel for a very short stay. The location is not a safe place at night. The rooms are OK, although the bathrooms are very small and in need of renovations. The restaurant is the only bad place to eat on the whole island. The shuttle to the beach is a joke, one small bus that leaves at 10:30 and comes back at 3:30 only - and you have to sign up for it the previous day. ” Jan 22, 2005 by
Dean from Vinton, VA “If in town for a conference i would suppose this would be a good hotel. If you are on vacation this not a good place to stay. The beds are old and only twin size. WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE QUEEN BEDS. NOT A COMFORTABLE STAY.” Dec 6, 2004 by
Debra B. from Dover “This hotel offers a very average experience. Some of the service was friendly and helpful -- e.g. the front desk, maintenance, and barman. Other service was very mediocore -- concierge, especially. The pool was in use for several hours of the day as a training ground for a scuba class, so a good portion of it was not useable. The restaurant offered average fare. Finally, we found out that friends of ours were able to stay in an above-average villa overlooking the harbor for just $10 per night more than we paid. In sum, we feel we paid too much for what we got.”
