• Everything was very nice and clean. It seemed brand new.
• The room layout was awkward and they didn't have a 2 queen room.

“This Residence Inn seemed very much like it had formerly been an apartment complex and was very recently converted to a hotel. Everything was very clean and seemed new. Granit counters in the mini kitchen and full-sized stainless steel appliances. The bathroom was very clean and seemed new as well. The beds also seemed new, but a bit too firm for us. The pillows were soft and fluffy. When we had to call for extra linens for the sofa bed they were brought immediately. The included breakfast was well-stocked and attended.”

• Free wireless, free parking, close to the interstate, within walking distance of a couple restaurants.
• Free breakfast, but no meat (bacon, sausage, etc); unappealing hot tubs, bad room layout.

“I got a discounted rate on 4th of July weekend. We got to the hotel early (10 am) and were able to check in because they had rooms ready. They first gave us a room that had not been checked out of (I walked into a room where there were bags that were still unpacked). They apologized for the mistake and let me pick the location of the replacement room. The room layout is terrible. The living space is cramped and doesn't leave much space for luggage. The desk and chair is pretty much in the kitchen, very awkward. The bathroom sink is separate from the toilet/shower, but the shower area is teeny tiny. There is a free, hot breakfast (at least on the weekends). The food is okay, but there is no meant. No bacon, sausage, etc. Mostly baked goods, waffles, cereals, eggs, potatoes. The pool area is okay quality (a bit small for the size of the property), though the perimeter area of the pool is narrow, leaving not much space for chairs and lounges. There are several hot tubs scattered around the property. Some look like they haven't been cleaned in weeks, others are okay.”

• Newly remodeled, hot tub near our room, nice breakfast, safe & quiet location, free parking.
• No hot tub by the pool, hot tubs were throughout the buildings which was nice, but wanted a hot tub near the pool to watch kids in pool.

• Close to UCSD, full kitchen.
• Under renovation, a bit shabby.

“The hotel is more like an apartment building and is under renovation until June 09. Our room was right where the delivery trucks were unloading new furniture, wallpaper, and LG TV's. I might give it another try after the remodel.”

“The renovations really make this hotel stand out. We loved it with the exception of the location. We had a car so driving wasn't an issue, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel to people without transportation as it's pretty far from town.”

• The hot tub and the free breakfasts and
  host bar and food.
• The rooms and furniture were well worn- not fancy.

“We found it a good place with 2 young kids . we appreciated the free breakfasts, which included waffles, sausage, eggs, fruit , yogurt etc. Also on Monday-Wednesday nights from 5-7:00 pm there was more free food and beer/wine - enough food to make it like a lite dinner. Staff were helpful. They are renovating the rooms, but there was no noise or other issues for us. With some room renovation (eg new furniture, new appliances) the hotel will be great. Bottom floors (its a 2 level townhouse style) were dark - we moved to the top floor which was better. Initially hot tub was set too cold, we asked for it to be turned up and it was. We used the hot tub every day after that. Plus the BBQ one day. Its not fancy but good for anyone willing to drive a bit out of San Diego proper.”

• Front desk people were very friendly and courteous, did not hear any outside noise other then the people above once in a while.
• Parking is very compact hard to maneuver a bigger vehicle like a truck.

“We would stay here again very friendly staff very clean rooms I also like the kitchens in the rooms also we did see a room with a fire place would not mind trying that room on our next stay.”

• Needed directions to the beach, they had them preprinted with reverse directions on the back.
• Felt a little unsafe walking alone between buildings at night.

• Hard to find rooms, small outside pool.

“I enjoyed myself, would take more advantage of amenities with more than a one night stay. Having a well equipped kitchen would be a plus for a more extended stay or for a family, but there is easy walking access to a number of restaurants. I was impressed that there was a full hot buffet served, not the usual Danish and a cup of coffee.”

• No balcony.

“We had a great stay here. It took a shorter time to get to the beach than it did to find parking, accommodations were clean and had convenient amenities. We would love to come back.”

• The environment and the location were perfect for our purpose.

“The hotel is in a great location for none 'beachside' visit to La Jolla. We needed the space for our family of seven so that we could visit SDSU with our son who will attend there in the fall and to visit Scripps memorial hospital with our son who will be a nurse there in July. It's proximity to a brewery made it especially fun!”

“This is a beautiful facility located just across the street from UCSD and just a few blocks off the I-5 freeway. The hotel consists of all suites bungalows and lovely grounds. There is a pool and many hot tubs.”

“This hotel is a good value for an expensive area such as la Jolla. It seems quite new. The room is very big, elegant, with kitchen, fridge, etc. Also a spa nearby. But the hotel is 10 minutes driving from the coast and la Jolla shops and rests. So, if you can't afford something really at la Jolla downtown, this is a good alternative.”

• I liked the layout and the parking.
• The keys that were given to me didn't work. When I got to the room I found a key on the porch, and, surprisingly it worked. A note was next to the key.

“Other than the problem with the key, the only problem was that the room I was transferred to was not picked up. There were some old bed pillows on the couch. I was impressed by the continental breakfast.”

• Front desk wasn't helpful with cab advice.

“Overall the hotel was nice, though a bit out of the way for our destination. The front desk staff could have been a bit more helpful; when we asked about cabs to local attractions we got blank stares and the advice to drive ourselves (it would have ended up as a 10 minute cab ride).”

• The staff was friendly and helpful. Traveling with a small child they allowed an early check-in that truly helped.
• The only drawback was a mattress that was too firm.

“This hotel was definitely worth staying at again. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is close to retail stores, grocers and dining. The only drawback was too firm of a mattress for my taste.”
