• On beach, attractive, close to activities, romantic, friendly, clean.
• Check in was not friendly enough and problems with software at check in/out.

“Being there in the off season, not everything was being utilized, e.g. Pool side bar area, but the hotel is clean and very nice. I have no problem recommending this hotel to anyone who is really looking forward to a relaxing and satisfying stay.”

• Walking distance to beach, pool and restaurant was good, fabulous margaritas.
• Rooms need updating has small beds and are not comfortable, bathroom way too small.

• It was an easy walk to beach from hotel.
• The bed and bath rooms were outdated. Doors falling apart and shower knob broken. I have more.

“This hotel is in bad need of renovation. The rooms are outdated. The bathrooms are where you could really see it. The door at the bottom was breaking away from moisture etc and long ware and tare. You could hardly get the sliding glass door to balcony open. When you did get it open, it felt as if it was going to come off track. The swimming pool was broken and getting repaired with huge crack while we were there. Front desk staff didn't appear they wanted to be present. The female security guard was very helpful in giving advice on local attractions etc. Elevators to hotel in need of repair. The doors slam shut and most of floor level lights don't work. This hotel in comparison with neighboring hotels on island is a dud.”

“My visit even though it was a one day stay; was a relaxing one. I travel just to get away from day to day work. I'm planning to go back to same hotel during the month of May.”

• Noisy, rooms torn up from spring breakers.

“We came at the end of the spring break season. The first few days were crazy with all of the college partier. The second half of our week was much quieter, and much more enjoyable. Although there were noisy partier in the hallways every night.”

• Very friendly staff, after the initial check-in.
• The beds were horrible.

“Nice location, near everything. My only problem had to be the beds, they were extremely uncomfortable. I was truly happy to be going home only because I would not have to sleep on the bed another night.”

“My husband surprised me with a weekend getaway to South Padre Island. It was our first visit there and the first time he has ever booked us a getaway. My research was limited but I did look at the hotels in the area and the pictures. We arrived at the hotel at 1:00 a.m. and waited a while for someone to come to the front desk. She had been sitting in the office just did not hear us come in. We got to our room and it was dark and smelled. The room had a damp musky feel. I could not get the hallway light to come on and when we went to call the front desk to ask if there were any king rooms available we could not get the phone to work. We went back to front desk. There were no king rooms available but we were moved to another room. In this room the refrigerator made a giggling noise all night. The beds were very small and hard. It felt like you were sleeping on a cardboard box with wires in it. The carpet looked dirty and the whole place had a dirty, outdated run down feel. At 7:00 a.m. the next morning we woke to the noise of construction equipment working on the condos next door. So we packed up and left. When we checked in we talked to the front desk person about the upcoming spring break season. She said they would be booked solid with college students. They would take the furniture out of the lobby. That was the impression I got from the hotel, a great college spring break location but not a romantic getaway type place. 1 pool was heated and one was not. The one that was heated looked cloudy and dirty.”

• Nice swimming pool.
• It is a hotel that is old, and the rooms are old. Bathroom is old. The price is high for the quality. No chair on the beach, no beach view.

• The view of the ocean, although partial, the pool and the service.
• Old, needs renovating. Very few 'rooms with a view'.

“The receptionist was friendly and tried his best to get me the room with the view. A partial view is only possible if you get the 5th or 6th floor rooms, otherwise the best you can get is the pool view. Other taller/larger properties around are blocking the views. The beach access was very convenient. Another thing that needs mentioning is that the facilities were good. All in all, it was a good trip.”

• The pool area was clean. The service was very good.
• The room wall were thin and you could hear the other guests. The room had two double beds that were not the most comfortable.

“Over all the hotel was good. The staff was friendly and took good care of us and the hotel grounds. The room was clean, but the beds not as comfortable as I would have preferred.”

• The bartender was nice but that was about all.
• Everything.

“The first room we got to overlooked construction! This hotel was terrible! The staff was slow. A cockroach ran at me in the bar area. The only explain to anything was it was a oops and they were sorry. The server at the restaurant didnt know what a med well filet mignon was when I cut into she told me that theres the blood I wanted. Also she told me they didnt serve bread in Texas although it was on the menu. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone!”

• Close to the beach, great restaurant, great price and people.
• The safe did not work and they knew it but didn't fix it before renting the room.

“It's a great hotel. If you want a squeaky clean, upscale this isn't the place. The carpet is kind of old and felt moist and if it hadn't dried. However, the people and spirit there is fabulous I would stay there again but ensure the safe works just to give me the peace of mind I needed before heading out to the beach.”

“For the star rating provided should not have had to "upgrade" to a beach front room. Older Holiday Inn with wear evident. Beach front room would have deserved the current rating though, the view was great.”

• The staff was friendly and the hotel's location was great.
• The bathroom was extremely small and the room needs updating.

“The staff was very helpful. The room was not nearly the star level we expected. The leak in the ceiling above the sink was very unpleasant, the running toilet was disturbing, and the cleanliness of the room was not great. Perhaps it would be satisfactory for college spring breakers. We appreciated the refrigerator and microwave (even though the turn table was missing).”

• Hotel was old a run down. Had a musky smell throughout.

“I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. This is definitely not a 3 star hotel. It is on the old part of the island and it is run down in need of many repairs. The room smelled musky and the AC did not work very well. One of the pools was dirty and the other pool needed some repairs. The staff members were friendly. A much better alternative is the Holiday Inn Express which seems to be a much nicer place for a cheaper price.”

“Friendly staff, but unresponsive to any room upgrades after 3 day stay. Even though there was no high speed internet and internet worked only 50% of the time and several problems with the toilet facilities! I was not given the impression that they appreciated my business. My next time to South Padre Island, I will stay somewhere else.”

“The location was great, beds were a bit uncomfortable, front desk staff great and helpful, breakfast buffet was good, but wasn't ready at advertised time, service was slow. Poolside bar grill o.k. but bar service a little slow.”

• Clean, competent and friendly staff. Excellent location.
• Could use some updating but overall for age well maintained.

“Went with the wife for a weekend jaunt and was pleasantly surprised with the hotel for what we paid. I would venture to say the bee's value on the Island. Proximity to the cove for surfing was walk able and was also next to Schliterbahn. The Hotel pool area had a descent bar and was clean which is very important in my opinion. Did not go expecting much for what we paid, but was very happy with the outcome. Will stay again.”

• I loved how close and easy it was to get to the beach.
• The bathroom was too small and the water pressure was bad.

“I totally would recommend this hotel to others. The staff was very friendly and were there to assist when needed. It's located just right to get to the beach and has easy access to get there. Great place overall.”

“Upon arrival, they could not find our reservation, argued with us on how many reservations we had, even though we had a paper that confirmed we had 2 reservations. Also, entered the room with missing items, and dirty linens. Very unsatisfied. Didn't know that there was an additional deposit and were very rude instead of just explaining it.”

• The location was convenient to the convention center.
• The clerk was extremely rude, and seemed to feel justified in his rudeness because I was a reduced-rate client.

“When checked in, I asked if there was a complimentary continental breakfast. The night clerk/night manager? Said, "not at that rate". Additionally, even though the main building, where I checked in, was clearly no more than half full at best, I was told to drive around back, walk through the swimming pool area and courtyard area to a back, dark building that seemed to have no one else in it. This was with it raining and in the 30-40 temps. Range outside. To top it all off, I finally arrived at my second floor room in this deserted building, wet and cold, with my bags, to find that the door keys that the clerk had given me did not work, and the room across the hall had a loud alarm clock sounding off continuously. I had to trek through the cold rain back to my car, drive back to the front, go in, get new keys, drive back around to the back, and hike back through the cold rain in the courtyard to get to my room again. I enjoyed south padre island, and will return with my family as soon as the weather warms up a bit, but will never stay in that hotel again. ”

• Heated Jacuzzi, beach access, partial view of the ocean.
• Beds were horrible condition with springs popping out.

“The hotel staff was pleasant and the hotel has a wonderful beach access. The bartender was very polite and the restaurant served good food. The beds were horrible in that the springs popped when you laid on the bed and when you moved. Upon my return I had to take Advil the next day as my back was still hurting. Everything was wonderful except for the horrible mattress. The last day I slept on the floor. My daughters also complained about the beds. Prior to this we had stayed at a best western and the beds were much better but they did not have a beach access.”

• Great bell hop Rio was extremely helpful and has outstanding customer service.
• The smell of smokers. We were in a non smoking room but there must have been smokers around us. The hallway smelled especially. Loud air condo.

“The hotel is very old. Not that old is a bad thing. It is just the management have not maintained the hotel. It would have been a better stay of the bathroom fixtures were up to date, furniture in good condition, and carpeting and wall paint not worn out or messy.”
