• They have taken great pains to present this hotel as family friendly.
• The carpeting in the downstairs hallways needs to be cleaned/replaced.

“A very clean, inviting and comfortable hotel with a friendly, helpful staff at every level. Anyone with children will be delighted to find that their indoor pool amenities include a huge slide, pool tables, game room, etc. The restaurant was clean, efficiently run and offered a full breakfast at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend this hotel. It defied every perception I ever had about Ramada hotels.”

“Nice hotel for price. However, need to update pillows and bedding. Pillows very uncomfortable and bedding was worn. Should have non-smoking by floor. We could smell cigarette smoke in our room from the other rooms on our floor.”

• The location was great with many restaurants and shopping close by.
• They said that check in was at 3:00pm on the receipt I received but it wasn't until 4:00pm.

“The shuttle service was supposed to run every half hour but there was not one available when we needed it (3:00pm on a Monday) so we had to pay for a cab to the airport. We will probably not stay there again. The bathroom was horrible. It had bad lighting, no fan, and the showerhead was moldy.”

• The room was not cleaned well; change on the floor; bathroom had mildew growing; noisy kids were running the hallways.

“This hotel seems to be more for family use (e.g.: water park). As a result, it is noisier than many hotels. The upkeep of the rooms is sub standard for a hotel of this rating.”

“A surprisingly nice Ramada. Lobby area was nice with a professional friendly staff. Room was well maintained with a comfortable bed. Bathroom was small but clean with great shower pressure.”

• Indoor pool.
• Old rooms, smelled like chlorine.

“The public spaces were very nice but the actual room was old and small. The indoor water park actually consisted of one indoor pool and one waterslide. That hardly constitutes a water park. The waterslide looked very nice but it was only open on the weekend so we did not get to use it. The room was adjacent to the pool area and the heat/air unit drew in chlorinated air that smelled very strongly in the room. Also, the game room required tokens for all of the games and the games made loud noises all throughout the night which was very annoying and made it hard to sleep. The fax was supposed to be complimentary but they charged $1 per page. Overall we were not impressed with this hotel for the price and star level. Would not stay there again.”

• The hotel staff was extremely helpful even printing a map to my next destination for me.
• The hotel was loud evening into the night. I was awakened at least 2-3 times in the night.

“The hotel was nice overall, nothing fancy, pretty standard. It was loud at night. The staff even warned me when checked in that the upper floors tend to be quieter. The pool and waterslide were very fun but very crowded as the pool is quite small. Kids were jumping from the sides and almost landing on other kids! The location is great, right by the mall and all the shopping, restaurants, and businesses on 28th street!”

• To much chlorine bleach in the pool.

“Our room was nicely done. The bed was comfortable and it was such a relaxing stay.They have a really nice pool area with a water slide. The pool was so nice and warm, not cold like most hotels. The kids got the run of the pool for most of the day and that was wonderful, but the best thing about it is that they really do close down the pool for the kids and let the adults only have the pool for the last hour of the night. The only down side of the pool was they use to much chlorine in it and it made my eyes and skin burn. The next day I had to get some eye drops for my eyes. Their on sight restaurant was awesome, I recommend the garlic cheese bread with the marina sauce for an appitizer. That was the most amazing garlic cheese bread I have ever ate. There pizza was good too but sorry to say it was nothing amazing, it was just pizza. I would recomend this hotel to others. It's a family hotel, but can be good for a retreat for two. We did have a problem with a group of teens hanging out in the hall and making a lot of noise, but the hotel staff pretty much took care of that.”

• The location was awesome.
• Kids screaming in the hall, hot tub broken, beds rock hard!

“I understand it was to no fault of the hotel staff; it was the dumb parents who allowed their kids to rudely run up and down the hall and all hours. Adult pool hours were only an hour after the kids, which was unfair-at least it should have been the rest of the night. The location is walking distance from the movies and plenty of restaurants-it was the most pleasant part of my stay. Rooms were nice although the beds were extremely hard. It seems like there should have been a mini fridge in the rooms.”

• The staff was extremely professional and friendly.
• My room was adjacent to the pool and therefore extremely hot and humid.

“The hotel did have room service despite not having an onsite restaurant. Unfortunately, the hotel is busy and rooms are in demand and I ended up adjacent to the pool so due to the extreme heat and humidity I needed to keep the air conditioner on for my entire 2 night stay. It was quite warm despite a frigid temps and a snow storm which loomed during my stay. Sondra, at the front desk, was spectacular and excels in customer service. She made my stay quite enjoyable and happily tended to my requests.”

“Run was standard hotel room, with two beds. When one person was at the desk, the room was cut in two, and it was impossible to traverse the room. Quality was fine; nothing was outstanding- just ok.”

• There was a strange smell throughout-especially in stairwells.

“Would not return. The morning breakfast was not good. Actually, went out for breakfast the last 2 days of our stay. Even for free it was not a good value. Young people working breakfast were not real helpful-were actually saying they would rather be anywhere but there. My wife went to pour herself a glass of water, and one of the servers told her she could not have water from that pitcher, as it was his. That is the truth-unbelievable.”

• The indoor water park was great for my son, as was the separate room with bunk beds.
• Housekeeping poorly managed. Carts in halls, housekeepers very noisy.

“The Grand Rapids Ramada is an interesting hotel. It was perfect for me, because I was there on business, but had a 14-year old son along because we had plans to have a vacation once my business was done. The Ramada is unique in featuring a 7000 sq ft water-park with the hotel built around it. We had a "family suite" with a "back door" that opened right into the park. The suite had a second bedroom designed for kids - a bunk bed, TV, games, etc. Perfect. My son would give it 3+ stars. They cheeped out, though all the games at the water-park arcade required payment. A single game of pool was $1, and you had to go to the front desk to check out the cue sticks. Housekeeping was on par with a -1 or 1.5-star hotel. Carts were all over the halls and jammed the elevators. At one point, we had to step over a housekeeper who was taking a break sitting in the hallway. They were very polite and friendly, just unprofessional. I feels like Ramada is trying hard to improve its brand, and they are very close to a 2.5 star category. Front desk was very nice, but other aspects of the property suffered.”

• Did not care for our room which overlooked the pool area; too much light came in through curtains. Pool was closed for some reason.

• The waterslide was a real hit with my son it was fast!
• The staff was not happy to be there & was annoyed by basic requests.

“We tried to get an early check-in, but were told (1) there isn't early check-in and (2) if we wanted to check in early we could and pay extra. The food was horrible dry and cold muffins, old (or very poor quality) orange juice, etc. Later morning the line stretched out the door for the cattle-call on this poor spread. Meanwhile, the staff read their newspapers.”

• The hotel was newly remodeled and had a great water slide.
• The continental breakfast did not open until 7 am. We were traveling to a swim meet with warm-ups at 7:30am.

• Clean & unique special touches.
• The furnace kicked on every 1 or 2 minutes and kept us awake most of the night.

“The first impression was good until the counter staff. The girl was very unfriendly, however polite. I thought she was having a bad day, but the next day she was exactly the same. The room was comfortable, except for the furnace that kicked on every 1 or 2 minutes. We finally had to turn it off in order to get some sleep. Then get up to a very cold room as it is winter in Michigan. Otherwise, no complaints. We will likely return to this hotel.”

• Comfortable beds, decent complimentary breakfast.
• Noisy, noisy, noisy. Teeming with children, who screamed in the halls from 11pm to 1am.

“Comfortable room, but noisy!! There is a mini-water park in the hotel, so it's full of kids. And they run amok at night. The door lets in all the sounds from the hall. A terrible night of sleep, despite a comfy bed.”

• The swimming pool and the restaurants.
• We chose non-smoking room and on the same floor there was areas in the hallways you could still smell smoke.

“Overall I liked the hotel and it was a great price. I liked that we received a phone call making sure the room was fine after 10 minutes of being there. The pool was fantastic and my husband raved about how comfortable the bed was.”

• The pool area is especially enjoyable with a gigantic slide.
• Other than construction in the parking lot, this hotel was very comfortable.

“There were two things that made this hotel perfect for my family. One- there is a gigantic water slide in the pool area that my teenagers loved. Two - instead of cold cereal and weak coffee, the breakfast was wonderful, hot, including eggs and breakfast meats, fresh fruit, a nice assortment of breads and juices. Nothing continental about this breakfast. All in all, it was a comfortable, convenient stay.”

“Hotel had many facilities which we did not use. Our bed was very comfortable. The heating and cooling unit was very quiet and efficient. Bathroom was clean, roomy and supplied with everything you need. The breakfast was ample but they were having trouble keeping the buffet supplied.”
