• The front desk staff and comfort care staff were responsive.
• The horrible noise that woke us up, shaking our walls, and forced us to check out early.

“Unfortunately, the last 45 minutes of our stay overwhelmed our experience. An extremely loud vibration (the physical plant man was astounded) which was shaking the walls of our room and bathroom woke us up and drove us out of our room. Up until the last 45 minutes, the hotel was nice except for lack of information on the website about the parking situation ($16 valet parking or street parking, which is highly restricted Monday through Friday.) The lack of welcome from the valet parking staff, plus the loud jarring music played at the valet station in the driveway. The front desk staff were professional, courteous, informative and helpful. When I commented on the music at the valet station, which actually impeded my conversation with the valet staff, the articulate young woman thanked me for my input and said she would let them know. The Comfort Care director was prompt, thoughtful and accommodating as well. The Physical Plant/Maintenance worker who came to investigate the noise was prompt and thoughtful, despite being shocked and awed by the bizarre, thunderous noise that saturated our room. The renovation is lovely, choice of furnishings and bathroom fixtures is stylish, attractive and comfortable. The pillows were much higher than I am used to and gave me and my boyfriend a bit of neck strain, but that's a highly personal thing.”

• Desk and parking staff very friendly and helpful.
• Housekeeping was fair, rooms need updating.

“Overall the hotel was ok, rooms need updating paint chips on the bathtub, covers for door handles were lose. Carpet had ink stains. No microwave in rooms. Housekeeping did fair job, cups were not thrown away after being used, some towels were not replaced on second day of stay, and iron and ironing booed were not put away.”

• The room was nice and the location was excellent!
• Some of the staff were rude, some had their friends hanging out late at night in the lobby, very off-putting.

“The hotel was in a great location, right next to VCU and the fan area. The room was clean and the bed was amazing. Some of the staff were a little unprofessional and rude, although there were exceptions. The worst thing about the hotel is you have to valet park your car for $16 a day. Ridiculous!”

• The staff is GREAT!
• Bathroom, cold water faucet.

“The hotel is in a nice neighborhood. There are VCU college/graduate housing facilities nearby and this presents opportunities for singles to meet and mingle in the neighborhood. Nice old architecture in the surrounding buildings makes strolling around pleasant.”

• Staff was very helpful - shuttle bus was a godsend!
• Parking was non-existent!

“Stayed here to attend a concert at the coliseum, the neighborhood wasn't the best, but the hotel provided a shuttle bus that was very accommodating. Rooms and lobby were clean and staff was friendly. It is more than adequate for an overnight stay.”

“The hotel and room exceeded my expectations. Hotel staff friendly, and the room was quite spacious although the bathroom very cramped. I liked the Neutrogena products provided. Hotel only has valet parking, but street parking is available at no cost. I was able to get a spot close to the hotel at midnight.”

• The room had free Wi-Fi.
• The bathroom was too small for a family, the outdoor pool was unheated and not impressive, and I had to pay for valet parking.

“The room was clean but small, especially the bathroom. I did like the free Wi-Fi access. The staff was friendly and helpful. The pool on the roof was small and unheated. I did not enjoy it. The worst was having to pay for valet parking. The only other choice was to park out on the street.”

• The hotel has been renovated and was gorgeous. The staff was extremely friendly.
• Parking is an issue in the area.

“The Doubletree is a great hotel! The staff treats you with respect and care. The restaurant staff was outstanding. There was a little problem with parking because someone did not show up for work, but I am sure this is not the norm. It was taking quite a while to get your car from valet parking. There is limited street parking so we had to valet. All in all it was a really wonderful stay. This was our second time staying there and we would stay again!”

“The location is indeed downtown but in an area that did not feel all that safe. The lobby is well kept but small and crowded when we were there. The rooms are very pretty though a little on the small side. The cost of valet parking (one's only option) was way too expensive and the process was very slow and frustrating.”

• The room quality set the tone for an enjoyable 2 days.
• Parking was not convenient, with the exception of valet, but even then was bothersome.

• The building is very old and the remodeling should be continued.

“As a female business traveler, I can say that while this hotel is not in the safest area. The staff is quite helpful in ensuring that you feel well taken care of. The shuttle even took me on a late night McDonalds's run since I was alone. The room was nice with a decent view of Richmond and VCU. I would stay again, if not for the quaint and clean room, than for the staff that was top notch!”

• Parking was expensive but there was plenty of street parking available for free.

“This hotel was located in a safe area of downtown near the VCU campus. The room was quiet, clean, and a very comfy bed! The staff was very nice and was also very patient/friendly with my 2 year old. My wife and I travel a lot in the summer as we are teachers and this hotel was a great place to stay in Richmond!”

“Overall everything was really good. The outside of the hotel looks a little old but the inside is much nicer. The bathrooms are clean and so are the rooms. Overall pretty happy with my stay.”

“This hotel is the worst place I have ever stayed in. The hotel is very dated and in a terrible location. First parking was fifteen dollars, then we got to the room only to have no towels. We were attending a concert about seven blocks away and no one told us that the hotel was in the middle of the ghetto. We walked there at dusk but had to take a cab back for safety reasons. Car alarms went off all night and you could hear all the outside noise because of the surrounding buildings being tall, the sounds echoed up to the tenth floor where we were. Room service was very slow and the buffet in the morning was out of most things besides fruit and bagels. None of the staff in the dining room knew what they were doing, getting a beverage, other than coffee or juice, required talking to three different people. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, you can get a much nicer room, in a much better location, for the same price.”

“You had 2 choices either pay 14 a day to valet park or hope you can ride around and find a park on the street. The ice machine in the hallway was very noise and didn't give out much ice.”

“Overall, I enjoyed my experience at the Double Tree. The location was great, the rooms cozy and clean, and the cookies at the front desk were ridiculously tasty. I only had two problems with the place. 1. Valet parking too costly, and 2. A very loud church service took place right below our room on Sunday morning.”

• Construction on the 2nd floor was noisy.

“The doubletree's hospitality provided a comfortable hotel experience. The hotel staff did there best to accomodate my every need. The staff gave fresh baked cookies when we arrived and left the breakfast buffet open past 10AM for us after we checked out. The rooms were neat and clean and the view from the room was spectacular. I will stay at the doubletree again!”

• I loved the overall location and that I felt safe walking around the surrounding neighborhood.
• The bathroom was very small. I almost felt claustrophobic in it.

• The modern and attractive finishes in this hotel were an unexpected surprise.
• The hotel did not have a separate/closed office area to work quietly or make business calls.

• The hotel clerk when I checked was so nice and allowed us to check in early!
• The shuttle was slow! We called for a pick up and 1/2 hour later it still wasn't there - we ended up walking.

“Overall, a wonderful experience! The rooms were very nice and the bed was extremely comfortable. A perfect location for a weekend getaway!”

• It was not a 3 Star pretty ordinary, but okay.

“Overall, this Doubletree is more like a Hampton Inn. It was clean, pleasant, well-situated geographically. I did not consider it a 3-star hotel at all. The staff was exceptional I did get very upset with the work-out room. Only one treadmill, as one was broken. Couldn't get on when I needed to. Finally got on one, and it broke. Took getting a hotel person to fix it. It was fixed, but I was trying to quickly get some exercise on a biz trip.”

• No parking unless you paid for Valet Parking.16$.Nowhere to park on the street.

“Overall it is a very nice hotel. The food was average at best. I wasn't there long enough to see anything except the room which was clean with clean comfortable beds.”

• The rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly.
• No parking. You have to either use the valet service, or park in the street.

“I love Doubletree. Every Doubletree hotel I've stayed in have been very clean and comfortable with a very friendly staff who are eager to see to it that your stay is as enjoyable as possible. My only real complaint about this particular hotel is the parking, or rather the lack of. There is no parking available to the guests of the hotel unless you spend 8 dollars a day for valet service, the only other option is to park on the street and believe me, this is not an area I would be comfortable doing that in.”

• Our room window rattled a lot and you could hear the garbage trucks at 5am.
