  • Pastoral setting. Nice public spaces.
  • Rooms are poorly insulated for sound & noisy. Shower heads are so weak.

“This hotel has been slipping over recent months/years. The price has gone up. Given remote location, mediocre and sometimes indifferent service, and noisy rooms, you're better off getting the Doubletree, The Wyndahm, the Hyatt or even Hyatt Place. The kiss of death was the almost shower that I was subjected to. Why on earth would anyone "upgrade" the shower heads to that plastic flow-restricted garbage without taking one home first and trying it out for 5 minutes? For shame. A night's stay without a decent shower takes this property from an 8 to a 4. Sorry ETS, you will get your head out of the politically correct space and think of your customers more.”

  • Small touches like the USA today at your door and the complimentary fruit made it great.
  • Location is off the beaten path, but that also is what makes it nice. The rural scenery wildlife etc.

“Aside from having trouble finding the hotel in the dark, this was a great value. Kids eat breakfast for free and the food was amazing for a 3 star. The rural setting and beautiful land surrounding the hotel really sets this place above the others that you'd traditionally find on route one. I'd go back again.”

“Modern and well-designed facility with beautiful grounds, well-cared for and comfortable rooms. Great beds! Nice swimming pool and exercise room facilities. Would be great for a business conference. Pleasant with older children. Not very close to town and not much for younger kids to do. Staff pleasant and helpful.”

“While a bit out of the way, this hotel was a fantastic find. Even with a four year old, this rather bookish hotel was family friendly with gorgeous surroundings, pool, and nature trails. If in the area again, I would certainly try to book at this location again. The hotel dining options were limited and not created with small children in mind, but there were many restaurants located a 10-15 minute drive away on Route 1.”

“Did not like the walk from the parking lot to the front entrance. The room hallways felt spooky; dismal, felt like you were the only one staying on that floor. Dreaded even having to go and get ice, 1-2 inch gap (opening) under the door. Nice people. Think they were doing a good job. The place just felt weird. Outdated. Back in time.”

  • It is on a nice large campus.
  • Electricity jacks falling out of walls, phone does not work., rooms moldy.

“The hotel is unsafe, and lacks even the simplest of items that any hotel room should have. While on a large and lovely campus, The Chauncey lacks all of my expectations of even a 2 star hotel. The wall had electricity plugs falling out. They literally pulled out of the wall when I unplugged my computer. The phone did not ring to my room. The result was that I never knew I had a wake up call, people who called, did not get through, etc. While a minor thing, the result of this minor detail not being attended to was the police looking for me, as no one could find or communicate with me in the evenings of my stay. Upon telling the staff about the problem, they indicated that they could not have known the problem prior to a guest reporting it. The rooms are moldy and musty. The bed in the room was a Murphy bed, so incredibly uncomfortable that I slept on top of the comforter to get more cushion. The internet connection was across the room from the "desk." There was no cord for the internet connection. The desk was no larger than 6 inches wide. It was impossible to use. The electricity went out twice. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, especially if you expect a room with standard items like safe wall plugs and phones that actually work. It was a horrible stay.”

“You have to realize that this not your typical hotel. It is a conference center on the campus of educational testing services, the folks who administer the sat tests. It appears that all of the other guests are attending conferences at the facility. It is a little hard to find, and there is absolutely nothing close by. It is about 15 minutes away from Princeton and about that from route 1, where there are plenty of restaurants, etc. The room was very nice, and the grounds looked lovely, though it was dark and rainy when we were there.”

“The location is way off the beaten path and even with good directions and a map quest, we had to call and have them walk us through the directions via our cell phone several times. The signs (1 on each entrance are ground level and are not lighted) and according to township laws cannot be lit. There are no street lights along the way. The complex needs renovating and is not up to the standards of our previous hotels in this area.”

“A bit strange, but when it comes to finding a hotel in Princeton, the whole experience is strange. There is basically only one hotel in the city, and it seems that the city keeps corporate America out. All hotels seem to be about 5-10 miles from Princeton university, with the exception of the Nassau inn. Chauncey "hotel" is very nice and pleasant. There was a lot of room noise, so I really felt for the close rooms as our child was crying during the night.”

I was afraid it wouldn't be kid friendly, but the staff was very welcoming to my 4, 5 and 8 year olds. We didn't eat any meals there, but the free coffee in the lobby was a nice extra as we began our day. The linens and beds were excellent. My only complaint is that the bathrooms need to be updated.”

“We stayed here in Dec 2005 & Oct 25-28, 2006. It is located in a lovely location among a group of buildings comprising the Chauncey complex. They do some sort of educational testing. We always get manage to get lost as the two lane roads criss cross, different websites give different directions, Bristol Myers Squibb headquarters takes up an enormous area close to the hotel & we always seem to arrive late at night. There is no lighted sign & it is difficult to see the small sign that simply says Chauncey. There is free coffee/tea in the lobby in the AM, USA today delivered to the room M-F, a lobby area with a gas fireplace. There was a wedding & reception while we were there. Our room had two double beds, the linen was fresh/clean, and towels were plentiful. We were visiting relatives in nearby Lawrence, NJ. Saw deer on the grounds. We would be happy to return on our next trip to NJ.”

They had fruit in the lobby in the afternoon and the morning. Our room overlooked the two large ponds and fountains. They had tennis, a pool, and of course, you could take a walk around the grounds. I had requested a king and was assured that it wouldn't be a problem. When I checked in, I was given 2 double beds. I went back to the front desk and was given a new room. This time there was 1 double bed. When I returned to the front desk, I was told there were no king size rooms available - which was a joke, since seemingly, there was no one else staying there. Once I found it, I was placed in a room in a separate building, and there were no visible signs on the ground to direct me to the particular building. Then, once I found it, there were no elevators, and I had an upper room. The room was tiny. I had been told when I checked in that breakfast would be included in the building my room was in. I found the breakfast laid out for some other guests, but no dishes for me. When I inquired at the front desk they then told me that breakfast was NOT included in my stay. • Nice sheets, pillow, bed and cleanliness.
  • Outdoor Pool had plenty of dead bugs and no life guard on site.

“Was very happy with the price, stay and comfort. Also loved the tennis court, basket ball court and outdoor pool”
