“The staff was friendly. I'm a photographer and was traveling with my family. We got in very late and left really early (so no hanging by the pool). The hotel was clean. Carpets were a bit run down. Even though the main lobby was designated ''no smoking'', there were people smoking in it. Continental breakfast was a joke. Prepackaged muffins and some sketchy looking fruit. The coffee was full of grounds, the juice was completely watered down.” Aug 12, 2009 by
Froma from Orlando,FL
“Hotel seemed to be older but kept clean. Did not have any extras.” Oct 27, 2008 by
Shelli
“We only stayed one night, which is what we intended, and a good deal for the price...it was clean and staff were very friendly..the breakfast was nice as well.” Aug 25, 2008 by
Robert &. from Fayettevilee, NC
“I would rather sleep in the airport, after confirming my arrival time of four o'clock they still did not have my room ready and made me wait twenty minutes for what I am not sure it was still both dirty and no ashtray in a smoking room the phones did not work so it was walk from the back of the hotel past the rows of overfilled waste buckets to the desk or rack up minutes on my personnel cell even after complain to the desk which should have made them remember my room number. Two hours later, they handed a gentlemen a room key to my room who walked in on my wife getting out of the shower. The staff and their simple it was an over sight on our part was as empty as the rest of the apart service you get there. No wonder why this once well known chain is so infrequently even spoken of anymore.” Aug 21, 2008 by
Gwen from Columbus, MS
“This hotel is a nightmare in Mobile, AL. It is filthy inside and out.” Aug 17, 2008 by
Cynthia from Wisconsin Rapids, WY
“They need to fix what is broken and have it ready to be used by there customers. We had to walk from our room to the 2nd floor opposite building to get ice. Three other machines did not work, hello it was 90 degrees out! Plus, again with the weather the pool was closed both in the evening and until after checkout. This was the worst hotel ever that I have stayed at with your company. Also I should mention the evening front staff was more annoyed by customers coming in then helpful, I guess the cell phone call was more important than the job.” Jul 31, 2008 by
Diego from San Leandro, CA
“This is the stickiest hotel I've been to. No security because all the entrance from the back side are all open. The room is poorly lit and the door is hard to open from the outside. There is a patio but you can't get out. Overall, this is poor quality hotel.” Jul 31, 2008 by
Scott from Roswell, GA
“The hotel didn't have a Wi-Fi connection (confirmed by the receptionist), a leak of some type made the floor of the hallway and area around the door to my room constantly wet, and the receptionist was rude and acted as though questions I had were a waste of her time.” Jul 22, 2008 by
Nicholas B. from Killen, AL
“Hotel as poor, poor upkeep, bad staff and service, and a noticeable pest problem. I would probably have dealt with more literate, knowledgeable and responsive staff. Poor choice to say the least.” Jul 3, 2008 by
Darrell from Milwaukww, WY
“It wasn't a so nice experience! But I am no person that will complain unless it is too bad to bare and won't stay there no more!” Jul 3, 2008 by
James “The hotel staff was very friendly. The actual hotel itself was a disaster area. You could tell that they didn't have the money to restore the hotel since Katrina. It looks like the hotel is on it's last leg before going out of business.” Jul 2, 2008 by
Aimee from Milwaukee, WY
“The carpet had white bugs crawling; The shower leaked the whole time and kept the bathroom floor wet. The curtains came half way down, the balcony window was cracked badly, the sliding doors would not lock, and the shower curtains had a lot of mold on it and were gross to look at. The towel holder came down. The house keeper took the towels and never replaced the on the first day, I got new ones from the desk the second day the never came and got the dirty one and when I went the office to get clean towels all they had was big towels no face towels. The bottom of the mattress (box spring) had material hang down and it look awful. The cereal that would be gone every time you get there and bread, and English muffins which would only be a few. The house keeper did not come to change the garbage I had plastic store bags that I had to put garbage in I had to take 3 full bags of garbage out side the hotel and put the garbage.” Jun 26, 2008 by

“Lobby is deceptively decent so we expected the rooms to be decent as well. I had to switch rooms twice because the first room, which was supposed to be a non-smoking room, smelled like smoke; the second room had not even been cleaned. In fact, there were no sheets on the bed! The last room was good but after seeing disaster rooms, I do not recommend staying at this hotel if you can avoid it.” Jun 15, 2008 by
Thomas from Bremen, GA
“Dirty off the freeway motel that did not offer amenities, was moved twice because first room had drug parneiphia left in the room, holes in walls, missing light plates, missing remote and hotel manager and staff were not forthcoming to assist in any way other to move me to another room. I did not feel safe.” May 8, 2008 by
Marius from Birmingham, AL
“Need to be remodeling.” Apr 29, 2008 by
Marc from Hoover, AL
“Ok nothing special.” Apr 27, 2008 by
Keith from Panama City, FL
“The sliding door would not lock or close for that matter, I would not recommend this hotel unless you like staying awake.” Apr 3, 2008 by
Sharon from Shalimar, FL
“Overall it was ok. Lobby floor was dirty; continental breakfast could have been nicer.” Mar 25, 2008 by
Jacqueline from Kenner, LA
“I originally booked one night but then decided to book 2 nights; so I had 2 reservations. I called the hotel and informed them that I would be staying 2 nights instead of 1. I was assured that there would be no problem or no need to switch rooms due to the 2 reservations. Well of course there was a problem. My fiance and I went sight seeing and when we got back to the hotel we were unable to get in the room. The hotel staff was under the impression that we were there for one night only and had packed up all our belongings and were waiting for us to come pick them up. Talk about ruining our vacation. I had to instruct them to check their computer system and check for my other reservation. Of course I was booked for another night. Then they wanted to assign us a different room. Never once did they apologize for their mistake. I didn't appreciate a complete stranger touching all of my belongings. I felt violated. Had the room not been paid for already I would have grabbed my things and left b/c the hotel's condition was not worth what I paid for. Had the front desk clerk apologized I wouldn't feel this way. I will never stay or recommend anyone staying at a Howard Johnson again. Thanks” Mar 19, 2008 by
Tim from Andalusia, AL
“I have stayed at HJ before that were better but this one was ok; could use newer stuff.” Mar 8, 2008 by
Jonathan from New Orleans, LA
“Nice place to stay if all you want to do is sleep and that's all I wanted to do.” Feb 10, 2008 by
Terence from Birmingham, AL
“Need staff on duty at night to answer the needs of the traveler. Need more ice machines on each floor.” Jan 29, 2008 by
Robin from Gulf Breeze, FL
“Overall, ok hotel good for the price and location.” Jan 23, 2008 by
Linda from Calera, AL
“Location was great however the check in clerk was not helpful. He omitted to tell us the outside entry door did not work. Our room was located in the back of the hotel therefore we had to walk back towards the front. Clean towels were not available upon our request we were told by house keeping the were being washed.” Dec 17, 2007 by
Jeffrey from Auburn, AL
“The hotel, after arriving, I discovered didn't have high speed internet after all. Seeing as how I was on a business trip (I work on the internet), I had to find somewhere else to say. Very inconvenient.” Nov 4, 2007 by
William from Tulsa, OK
“We were placed too far away from the lobby when we checked in. No microwave in our room. Internet didn't work in the first room so we were moved to another room on the opposite side of the hotel. There wasn't a fridge or microwave in that room. The breakfast was put up an hour early so we weren't able to get anything on the 2nd morning. I was very disappointed. There wasn't even a restaurant there. Wished I would not have stayed here. I have to go back to mobile again in January, I won't stay here unless It is free.” Oct 4, 2007 by
Kelli from Waterford, MI
“We had a very nice stay for the price offered. It was quiet. Rooms have patio access either to the parking area or inside rooms have courtyard access where you will find the outdoor in ground pool. The pool is open seasonally until cot 1. It looked very clean and inviting. There is a pay laundry facility on the grounds that we used, which was very convenient as a traveler. We had a safe and a refrigerator in our room. The room was clean. Service was very friendly. Many nearby restaurants to choose from. Close to the expressway or for us to catch our cruise line out of mobile the following morning just minutes down the road. I would definitely recommend.” Jul 17, 2007 by
Howard from Clear Brook, VA
“The service was horrible; the room was humid and run-down. In short this hotel is for people who can't afford anything better.” Jul 2, 2007 by
Chris from Jackson, TN
“This hotel did not meet the reputation of Howard Johnson. The common areas were hot and did not appear to be very clean. The first room smelled, toilet did not work and was extremely hot. The second room they moved us to also had a musty odor.” Feb 14, 2007 by
Lori from Princeton, LA
“Howard Johnson s! I don't know where to begin. The room smelled like a boy's locker room. The bathroom smelled. The blankets were very dirty and smelled. The curtain leading to the balcony would not close all the way. There was no water pressure in the bathroom. The iron was missing. There was no shade on the lamp. We had to ask several times for extra towels. The "continental breakfast" consisted of a little Debbie cake & O.J. I prepaid with my credit card and booked a king. They said I booked a single. When my family checked in they had no king & they gave me two doubles. Then they tried to charge me for that room. I tried to get the difference back from the king & double but, they said it was not their problem. The staff at the desk was very rude. The outside door I was told to enter was an exit door only. Our door key had not been activated so we could not enter the room. The whole experience was horrible to say the least. I will tell all my family & friends to never, ever stay in a Howard Johnson hotel.” Jan 12, 2007 by
Randy from Waco, TX
“Although placed in a convenient location, this place has rot rising to the surface. It even has the smell. Ceiling tiles are missing; fascia boards sagging; mildew stained paint. Apparently Katrina displaced courteous staff leaving only rude and ineffectual front desk personnel and management. It was clean.” Dec 30, 2006 by
William from Kemp, TX
“Based on the general run down appearance and things not working/not offered, I would rate this as 1star good for only a one night stay. Breakfast was a joke, Jacuzzi was broken, microwave in the room was old and nasty and the fridge did not work. Bathroom looked old and run down as well. Just an overall shabby run down appearance. I saw the rate posted on the front desk by the computer. This room should have gone for about 30 dollars tops.” Jun 8, 2006 by
Rebecca from Moody, AL
“It was the worst experience at a hotel we've had, major mistake. You first walk in to see a heavily arm security guard--never a good sign. They didn't have a double, as we requested. Fortunately, our third party stayed elsewhere. The room was hot, carpet dirty, glass dirty, holes in bedspread, mold in shower and shower didn't work properly. I couldn't get it to work, although my husband did. The pool was gross. Algae green and cloudy. I wouldn't swim in that. None of the outer security doors worked. There was obvious mold on a curtain facing an exterior dirty window. It certainly wasn't worth the $85 we spent to stay there. I was going to complain to Howard Johnson but they don't take responsibility for their hotels anymore ("independently owned and operated"). Too bad that one bears their name.” Jun 7, 2006 by
Joanne from Woodinville, WA
“This is one of the WORST rooms I have stayed in! I have photos documenting the room that will be sent to Howard Johnson corporate. Mold, cracks from bathroom to sliding door. Huge blood spot (or rust?) on box springs - did not notice until the 2nd day. Room smelled of mold and stale air. Swimming pool disgusting - unable to enter it. Restaurant was closed.” May 31, 2006 by
Mitzi from Florence, AL
“I was very disappointed in the room. I really wanted to use the pool also. You would think it being a holiday week-end that it would have been ready. We did not even have enough wash cloths, we had to ask 2 or 3 times to get more of them.” May 30, 2006 by
Alger from Kendallville, IN
“I could not find out if my room was charged to my credit card. I paid cash for my room and didn't want it charged to my credit card.” May 20, 2006 by
Sonya from Acworth, GA
“This hotel was inexpensive, but one expects that for the money, at least the place will be in good repair. The facilities are run-down, and the pool was green. The stopper in the bathtub was broken, which is a big deal when trying to bathe two small kids. The drapery linings had holes, the hairdryer was missing, and the fixtures in the room could simply stand upgrading (were rusted or damaged). We arrived shortly after Hurricane Katrina, and it is possible that a lot of what we saw was due to storm damage. However, some of the problem was simply neglect, and the facility could stand cosmetic updates and overall repairs.” Mar 25, 2006 by
Mary from Freeport, FL
“For the money this was a good deal, the hotel did smell however we considered that it had probably had some flooding from Katrina and was able to overlook that. The rooms were neat and beds comfortable.” May 20, 2005 by
Dave Z. from Knoxville, TN
“There was a coffee maker in the room, but no coffee or condiments. There also wasn't a refrigerator or a clock/radio. The door to the balcony didn't have a handle or knob on the inside. The drapes had holes in them. The carpet was thread bare. There was mildew in the bath tub enclosure. There was mold growing on the wall near the window, is assume from a water leak. The wall paper was peeling off of the wall. The air conditioner made a squealing noise. There was no juice at the continental breakfast, the hotel ran out of regular coffee an hour into the breakfast time. There was no iron or board in the room. The door safety bar was unscrewed from the door frame and was sitting on the shelf over the clothes bar in the closet. The only truly good thing about this property is that its close to the highway to leave.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.
