• Easy on/off the highway.
• Construction! They were pounding at 7:30 am!

“This was a nice hotel, but because of the construction, it was difficult to navigate. The main entrance was blocked off, so we had to use a side entrance - which was a long way to lug suitcases with two tired kids. The room was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. They initially gave us a room with 1 bed (there were 4 of us), but when my husband called to ask about another room, they immediately moved us and even delivered new keys. My only complaint was the construction outside - they started making noise at 7:30 am - which ended our sleep whether we were ready to get up or not! Other than that, it was fine, and will be awesome when they complete the construction and open the indoor water park!”

• Under construction and doing work right above our room on a Sat. afternoon putting carpet in and drilling right about us! Pool and hot tub not avail.

“Hated it! Under construction and was doing construction right above our room. I was trying to rest and woke up to a horrible noise! They were drilling in the floor right above our room at 3pm and banging and it was horrible. Was not told on website that it was under construction.”

• They are renovating the hotel, which is good but the indoor pool is closed for renovations.

“I absolutely love this hotel. They are fixing it up now, which is great. (it was starting to deteriorate, I have stayed here many times over the years). It looks like Holiday Inn is doing the job because the staff was excellent (can't say enough - they went above and beyond). The hotel room was beautiful and I love the atrium! I can't wait to stay again!”

“I arrived at the hotel at 4 am following a 2.5 hours flight delay and it took the clerk a long time to find my reservation and provide me with a room key. All I wanted to do was get some sleep, since I had a presentation at 11 am. When I returned from the presentation, I found that my room had not been cleaned by housekeeping. I reported this to two front desk clerks on my way to an evening presentation at around 5:30 pm. They assured me that the room would be taken care of. When I returned at 8:30 pm, the room had still not been touched. At that point I gave up and went to dinner in the hotel restaurant, since there were no restaurants nearby, and ordered a filet steak that was priced at $24.95. I have restaurant experience and feel that the cut of meat I received was overpriced by double. I was treated to a discussion of tattoos by the bartender/server and her lesbian girlfriend while I attempted to choke down my dinner. The hotel did have a cafe in the lobby, but it was only open until 10 am and did not take American Express, or any other credit card--not very friendly to business travelers who use credit cards in order to easily keep track of expenses. All of this was compounded by the hard to find location and the construction of a building in the hotel parking lot.”

• The bar staff was wonderful! They went out of their way to find the beer brand I drink back here in the south. Great suggestions to local restaurants.
• Maid service didn't change out dirty towels when they made up the beds.

• beeping alarm in room. Noisy hallway filled with shrieking teens at 3AM

“The hotel is currently undergoing construction and the road entranceway shows. It is very convenient to the highway, but don't expect any nearby amenities as it is located in a somewhat rural area. The hotel is located in Waterbury which is a low-income, lower-middle class laborer's city, so it's no surprise that the hotel guests seemed a little seedy, with lots of teenagers and gang banger types.”

• The hotel is in disarray and needs upkeep.

“I feel this hotel is just existing. The hotel needs serious upgrading and removal of unsightly areas. I did not feel safe in this hotel traveling alone with my children. I hope this hotel works on this, as I travel periodically to this area. I have used this hotel in the past and have seen a decline in the surroundings that have made me rethink my staying at this hotel.”

• This hotel is the best in Waterbury and a real surprise.
• The heating is a wall unit rather than central heat, but it was easy to regulate.

“After booking I read the bad reviews which led me to believe I made a mistake. The bad reviews are absolutely wrong. The hotel was recently made a Holiday Inn. The room, staff, restaurant, bar and food were excellent. I will stay there again.”

“This place was horrible! Bed was hard. Pillows uncomfortable and hard. No hot water. When I was checking in a guest was at the front desk telling the clerk that the hot water wasn't working. The clerk called the engineer to reset the boiler. In the morning I had a cold shower to help me wake up. I will not stay here the next time I am in the area.”

“This hotel may be was grand, but now it is a dump. It is raining inside the main hall. It may have been cleaned a few months ago. Elevator inspection was overdue, and they were making strange noises. Rooms are dirty and so many things are broken. Food at the Self service breakfast is terrible.”

“The lock on our room door was broken so we were moved to another room, which too had a broken lock. The hotel seems old and outdated. Our room smelled of mold and was not very well cleaned. The sheets and towels were already dirty when we checked in. The service in the restaurant was really slow, however the food was good.”

• It was conveniently located away from the city but close enough to reach the city.
• Very busy! Lots of kids running around in the halls and lobby.

“Nice place to stay if you are traveling to Connecticut as long as there is no function going on that involves kids because the lobby is fairly small and there is really no rack room or space for the kids to do things at so they hang out in the halls and lobby.”

• Very comfortable bed and nice bath provisions.
• Not enough elevators.

“The overall appearance was good and well designed. Some of the carpeting was a bit worn and some paint could be touched up, but the hotel was generally clean. The swimming pool was very nice as well as the courtyard. The scrambled eggs were a bit stiff, but the rest of breakfast was fine and the waffles were great. Our bed was very comfortable and the soaps and shampoos provided were excellent.”

• The location is perfect. Our son lives only 5 min. Away.
• We asked for a wakeup call one morning and never got it.

• The hotel is attractive and the center court is very appealing.
• One of the potted trees out front was drowning. The pot needs a drain hole.

“We've only been here on Christmas when there are few people around, so there has been very little activity or bustle. It's also away from any city center, cultural areas, or restaurants. I think it would be great for a convention or business meeting when you want to keep people focused on the matter at hand.”

“Called hotel a few days before to request non-smoking room with two double beds. Hotel reservations confirmed that this was ok. At check-in was told that the only room available had king bed with pull-out sofa. Sofa bed was not made-up. Not very impressed.”

• Air conditioner did not work nor the room key.

“Close to main roads & eateries. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The doors to the rooms seemed pretty flimsy & every sound in the hallways even from each end of the hallways could be heard through them. The restaurant served good, hot food with reasonable prices. Swimming pool clean, Jacuzzi was clean and nice too. Didn't get the chance to use the conference rooms but the ones we looked at were of good size and neatly kept. On a down note, the cold breakfast buffet is now $5.95 which was once no charge to hotel guests. That was one of the things we liked most about the Grand. Since no cold breakfast is worth $5.95 we ate elsewhere. Granted, add $5.95 more and you can have the hot breakfast too but we opted not to. That was our 3rd time staying there since its opening last year. We might stay there again, but will exercise our option to look elsewhere too.”

• that fact that is in Connecticut and offered at a GREAT price clean, friendly & professional staff.
• Last night of our stay our air conditioner did not work nor our room key outdated equipment.

“This hotel is centrally located for business & shopping & attractions. The furniture is of high quality, all the rooms, conference center & lobby are impeccably kept. Staff from front desk to restaurant staff to housekeeping staff are all very friendly & helpful regardless of any situation that might arise. the swimming pool is wonderful as is the Jacuzzi & exercise room.”

• The indoor swimming pool and that our room was so close to it.
• The hotel staff thought our stay was for only one night and not two.

“I like the business centre and the lobby kind of sparkles. The pool is nice although the water temperature in the evening seemed a bit low. The staff let us park a vehicle on their premises for two nights before the day of our stay began.”

• There was no information about the hours of the restaurant in the hotel. The staff was not very friendly or professional.

“The location of the hotel was great. Waterbury isn't a beautiful city, but the hotel was located in a nice area. The staff were not very friendly or professional and our room smelled musty. This is a great hotel for someone who is going to be spending very little of their time at the hotel and have a tolerance for musty smells.”

• The staff was very efficient, friendly, and accommodating.
• It didn't appear to be in a safe neighborhood, shady character at front desk, damp and not particularly clean hallways. Not lit well.

“This hotel is okay if you aren't staying long and just passing through the area, need an inexpensive place to stay, and I only recommend it to those who are traveling in a party of 2 or more.”

• It was a beautiful hotel and the staff was very helpful and friendly.
• Poor sign age, cold Jacuzzi

“This hotel was very conveniently located and easy to find. The staff was friendly and accommodating I did find a few details that made this stay less than perfect. The sign age to find your way around the hotel was poorly done. They gave us a map upon check-in but it wasn't a convenient method to find your way around. The water in the Jacuzzi was not hot and the Jacuzzi itself didn't seem very clean. The elevator buttons didn't indicate on which floor the lobby was located. There was no lotion or conditioner in the bathroom and the air conditioner seemed antiquated.”

“I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff was short-handed - but pleasant and also accommodating I had 2 young children and they honored requests I made while checking in. The renovations are complete and the hotel is quiet and nice.”
