• close proximity to downtown New Haven and Yale.
• Inattentive staff and non-functioning wireless internet

“The Courtyard By Marriott met my basic expectations and was well worth the bargain price that I got through Priceline Negotiator. The basic amenities provided by the hotel were sufficient, but I was not terribly impressed by the professionalism of the staff or the functionality of the hotel's technology. The housekeeping staff ignored my "do not disturb" sign two days in a row by knocking before 9AM. In another case, I heard an employee reprimand a housekeeper for working too slowly within earshot of guests. This did not reflect terribly well on the hotel staff's professionalism. I will say that the front desk clerks were friendly and helpful. Second, the wireless internet and cable television was not 100% functional, much to my annoyance.”

• Facility was well kept as were rooms.

“Hotel situated in close proximity to nearby places to be in New Haven. Room had double bed, would have preferred king instead. Clean facility and good service. If not for construction activity, higher rating would have been in order.”

• Convenient- not too far from Yale Medical Center.
• The room was not particularly attractive and the walls were pretty thin.

“The Courtyard seemed like a standard transit hotel. It was not particularly classy or polished, but it was comfortable and well situated, and therefore accomplished its goal. However, it seemed that the hotel was in the process of being renovated; with a facelift this could be quite a nice place.”

• Location.
• We had to change rooms in the morning due to no hot water.

“They were undergoing renovations and moving furniture etc down the hallways and in the elevators. We did not have hot water in the morning so we had to change floors to take showers. By the time we got down to breakfast they rushed us through because it was time to close up. It would have been nice if they had offered us a free breakfast for our trouble but no one mentioned a thing about trying to compensate us for our inconvenience. I don't believe we even got a sorry. I would not stay there again.”

• Convenient location.
• Tight parking lot and near a shady part of town.

“Convenient to shopping and Yale, my wife and I enjoyed our stay. The staff was very friendly and there were no unexpected charges. Very clean. It is near the edge of the better part of New Haven, but it's New Haven - it's all a bit edgy.”

• Loved the beds and pillows, very comfortable.
• Noise from the street below.

“Great hotel. The bed was very comfortable and loved the choices of pillows provided; there was hard and firm pillows as well as soft and fluffy. The worst part of the room was the traffic noise, it was very bad. I was on the fourth floor and could hear the cars and their horns all night long, ask for a room, that doesn't face the street. I had the AC on in the hope the fan would drown out the noise but it didn't help at all. The maid coming into the room at 8 AM wasn't great but I had not put the do not disturb sign on the door.”

• The room was very clean and comfortable. Furnishings were very attractive.
• There were only a couple of tissues in the tissue box.

“The hotel was conveniently situated near Yale University. The lobby and room were very clean and pleasant. Desk people were friendly and efficient. Overall, our stay was very positive. I would recommend this hotel.”

• Rude front desk manager and broken appliances in the room.

“Courtyard Marriott where I stayed the TV in my room was not working (upon asking the front desk, there were about 10 broken TVs in the hotel and there was nothing they could do about it), the coffee machine was broken (I was so disgusted.”

• Friendly staff even paid for my cab to an interview.
• Parking charges! Under renovation and the area of town has a gritty feel.

“I stayed for one night at the Courtyard and had a pleasant stay. The room was standard, if slightly small. Parking was quite expensive (13$ with taxes) but is limited in the area so this may be typical. They appear to be doing renovations to the outside areas and some of the rooms, which caused some noise and debris. Overall, a stay that met my expectations.”

• Garage needs security & better design. Need pool.

“All in all, this was a good hotel visit. We did not feel secure in the garage as anyone at anytime could walk in. Furthermore, the narrow entrance into the garage made it difficult to enter (we scraped up our car). Nice staff. Rooms were good but need more attention to cleanliness. Plenty of nearby restaurants.”

“Long wait to check in and the receptionist tried to convince me that parking meters were enforced on Thanksgiving day. If you find people like this entertaining, this place is not too bad. Overall, this location is not up to the standards of Marriott.”

• Great staff and new décor.
• We would have liked to stay another night and tried to extend our stay but it was not available except at the full rate.

“We were in town for the tennis tournament. The staff was very helpful and the hotel was convenient for our purposes. The hotel is upscale for a courtyard with flat screens, granite, etc. We did not venture out on foot so can't speak to the safety/security of the area.”

• Grumpy staff; no "Do Not Disturb" signs, insecure parking lot in tough neighborhood

“Tougher to locate than they indicated. Not friendly to patrons. Wouldn't give me a king size bed. They had me down for two beds and that was that. An employee was lying on top of a bench for patrons outside the hotel when I arrived and left a half hour later. No do not disturb sign in the room. The cleaning staff kept banging on the door in the morning. Borderline dangerous neighborhood with no security in the parking lot.”

“While my room was clean and well-furnished, it faced onto a busy, noisy street. I was unable to sleep until 2 AM. When I called the front desk to complain, they said there was nothing they could do because they had no rooms free on the quiet side. They also charged $12 for parking, which I find outrageous because they are next to one of the worst neighborhoods, so there is nowhere else to safely park your car. Overall, I was not satisfied with this hotel and would not stay here again.”

• The free wireless was great and the convenience of the location so near to Yale was great.
• The bathroom was small. Not enough counter space for two.

“If you want to tour Yale it's the best. Room was fine and buffet breakfast was great. Only complaint was it was a little noisy around 6-10 a.m. with city personnel doing their thing.”

• Covered parking garage behind hotel was a boon during snowstorm!
• Guest parking should be free in this part of town. The modest charge is petty.

“One of the better courtyards I¿ve been in, this hotel was clean, well appointed, comfortable, and provided free wireless internet (more important than TV!). The complimentary snacks in-room were nice, the bed very nice, and the bathroom clean and with good water pressure, albeit somewhat small. Provision of a mini-refrigerator was nice. No real complaints at all!”

“I had a great stay. Overall, the hotel is very nice and is equivalent to a 4star hotel. Yale is right in front of the hotel. Parking for 12$ was the only downside of the stay.”

• Smelly room, smelly feather pillows, no room-darkening curtains, mold in bathroom.

“I was expecting the high quality that comes with the Marriott name, but was sadly disappointed. Although the staff was nice, the room smelled foul, the pillows and mattress smelled foul, there was mildew in the bathroom and we were directly over the entrance, so the outside lights kept our room lit even at night (there were no room-darkening curtains). You had to pay extra for parking and breakfast. All in all, I was extremely disappointed and would NOT recommend this hotel.”

• Clean with good services.
• The location was convenient, but felt unsafe to park the car anywhere but lot.

“Once inside the hotel, it was very nice. Good services, fluffy down pillow, comfy mattress and bedspread, recently updated. But the location was not so nice. You can walk to campus, but it was right on the edge of a not so great neighborhood and required a ten dollar parking fee to park in a lot that felt safe.”
