“Mildew in the bathrooms, parking was almost impossible, paper thin walls (I could hear the neighbor snoring), uncomfortable beds. Do not stay here.” Nov 21, 2009 by
Nancy from Burtonsville,MD
“I read mixed reviews of this hotel. However, the hotel was clean, modern, and lovely. I am disabled and we got a handicapped room with an interesting attachment to the toilet. My husband loved it! The dining was mostly Japanese food for lunch and dinner, but they had regular American breakfast along with Japanese.” Aug 2, 2009 by
from Concord,CA
“Nice hotel if you can get it through Priceline. Probably not worth paying full price. The location in Japan town made it very convenient to access several Japanese restaurants. I would stay here again if had to be in the area.” Jan 9, 2009 by
Bruce from Burien,WA
“This is not about this hotel specifically, but is there a way to find hotels that don't charge an arm and a leg for parking.” Jan 2, 2009 by
Gary from Brownstown,IN
“I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff was rude, the rooms were uncomfortable, and the bathroom wasn't clean. When I called to ask for an extra pillow I was questioned as to why I needed one, I was asked just how many people we had staying in the room, and finally was informed that he didn't know where any extra pillows were but if he found one he would bring it up. Needless to say I never got my extra pillow. Very poor hotel.” Jul 28, 2008 by
Remy from Los Angeles, CA
“Common areas great. Rooms are ok. Didn't get a chance to experience the spa services.” Jul 24, 2008 by
Debby from Sedona, AZ
“Overall the hotel was ok, the bed was pretty hard so I didn't rest real well. For regular American food all that was available was small croissant sandwiches. But is was clean and quiet.” Jul 21, 2008 by
Reuben from Riverside, CA
“A great small hotel with awesome amenities in a great location. Little Tokyo in Downtown LA. Very low-key but well appointed and clean.” May 6, 2008 by
Tom from Atlanta, GA
“Good location, lovely accommodations, great staff, comfortable.” Apr 22, 2008 by
Firoz from Oshawa, ON CA
“Good hotel to stay.” Apr 22, 2008 by
Karen from Naperville, IL
“I would not consider this a 3 star hotel. The room was shabby and run down. The paint was peeling in the shower area and the sink surface was flaking away. I would not have felt safe going outside after 7:00PM. No American food anywhere nearby.” Apr 20, 2008 by
Karima from Alamo, CA
“Its a good hotel if you don't have a choice .” Apr 13, 2008 by
Scott from Boca Raton, FL
“The hotel was located in the Japanese part of Los Angeles. No one spoke great English, and there weren't a lot of American restaurants, all Japanese food.” Apr 9, 2008 by
Rosa from Santa Barbara`, CA
“The location of the hotel; its proximity to the freeway and LA attractions is great. It is in general a bit dated on the inside and can use some renovation and sprucing up. The linens were clean, and rooms were cleaned well. The staff was not especially friendly, but not rude either. Perhaps it was a cultural thing - all staff was Asian as it is a Japanese Hotel in Little Tokyo.” Apr 9, 2008 by
Kristin from Camarillo, CA
“Nice bed linens. Friendly staff. Great location. The bathroom needed upgrades-- needs new counter top and faucet/ hardware.” Apr 9, 2008 by
Linda from Sun Valley, CA
“First off, it took me forever to check in, and the man at the front desk spoke poor English, and was entirely rude and insensitive. There was a group of strange people walking in off the street that clearly werent staying at the hotel just loitering in the lobby and staring at people. The room was clean, but nowhere near as nice as what the picture suggested and not to what one would consider a 3 star hotel in LA. At 3 am, I was awakened by an employee rudely barging in. At checkout, I just wanted to leave, but I was pleasantly greeted by woman at the front desk who couldnt speak English either. She then proceeded to ask me "how many bottles of water did you drink?", and I said "why? Does it matter? They were literally next to the bed in the open with no sign or anything suggesting that they not be complimentary, and she proceeded to tell me that they are a dollar a bottle! I said, "yes, we drank three, and hurry up and charge them to the card so that I can just get out of here, and get this place over with. I am completely let down, and I will never bring them business or referrals!” Apr 3, 2008 by
David from Santa Maria, CA
“This was my 3rd stay at this location. By far this, hotel is the worst. Of my 3 stays none have satisfied my expectations. I was not allowed to check in unless I used "Valet parking". The attendant asked us walk with our luggage and 2-month-old child from a parking lot located 1 block behind the Hotel.” Apr 1, 2008 by
Carmen from Davis, CA
“The room was very clean, the lobby was nice.” Mar 28, 2008 by
Erika from Oakland, CA
“I am very happy I ended up at the Miyako. Its central location (near two freeways and less than 20 minutes from everything) made it easy for me to see LA on a short trip. Friendly and efficient staff made it easy for me to get my car and luggage in and out. Nice bed linens and a squirting toilet seat! A short stroll to great Japanese restaurants in Little Tokyo. I had what was probably the best massage of my life at the hotel spa. This is not really an "upscale" establishment (basic rooms and mediocre restaurants), but you can get a great deal and really enjoy your trip with the Miyako as your home base. I would definitely stay there again. Seriously, get a Shiatsu massage here.” Mar 26, 2008 by
Ruth K. from Bakersfield, CA
“The only problem I had with the hotel was the parking. My Hummer didnt fit through the parking structure, they still charged us for the attempt. That was the only downside of the trip.” Mar 25, 2008 by
Jenny from La Verne, CA
“When we first arrived, I was very disappointed. I expected the hotel to be in much better condition, but it felt dingy in many ways. Our first room was adequate, but didn't feel special. The furniture was poor quality and not in good condition. However, the room was very spacious and the bed was comfortable. We found mildew in the bathroom, so we complained about it and were moved up to a much nicer room. The second room was exactly what I had hoped for originally (though it would have been much more expensive). It was beautifully decorated, clean, and really luxurious. It had a huge flat screen TV, nice desk, luxurious bathroom, and even a beautiful suede lounge chair. We felt like being upgraded really redeemed our experience of the hotel, but on the basis of the first room, I wouldn't recommend it. I did have a Shiatsu massage in their spa, which was nice (both the spa and the massage were good).” Mar 23, 2008 by
Erick from Los Angeles, CA
“Great hotel for Asian travelers. Unfortunately very rude to non Asians.” Feb 21, 2008 by
Pamela from Oakland, CA
“This should not be listed as a 3-Star hotel on your list. It does not compare. I am terribly disappointment with this hotel.” Feb 16, 2008 by
Anthony from Watervliet, NY
“Nicer than a 4 star hotel we stayed at later during the trip. Though the lobby was not as extravagant as the larger 4 star chain, the cleanliness, luxuriousness and amenities of the rooms more than compensated. Would certainly look forward to spending future nights at Hotel Miyako!” Feb 11, 2008 by
Kristi from Madison, WI
“It's a clean, friendly environment. I just didn't like the location because I am a woman and was traveling alone.” Feb 8, 2008 by
Janet from Vancouver, BC CA
“If you don't object to walking past street / homeless people (who are completely harmless) in the evening, this location is ideal as it is quiet and generally conveniently located to the Metro and Union Station (approx 4-6 short blocks away), as well as downtown and various districts (jewelry, fashion, toy, etc.). As expected, there are a lot of Japanese restaurants nearby, but don't overlook the fact that China Town, where there is a good selection of restaurants as well, is also close by. Although $3 for 15 minutes is a reasonable price to pay for internet use, I am accustomed to free internet facilities at 3-star hotels. Quality toiletries, though the cracked bathroom sink diminishes the overall appearance of the room.” Feb 6, 2008 by
Marion from San Francisco, CA
“Very nice indeed, I wish that we could have stayed longer!” Feb 5, 2008 by
Edward from Los Angeles, CA
“Place is awesome, got upgraded to an executive room because other rooms were booked. Would definitely come back again.” Feb 5, 2008 by
Heather from Henderson, NV
“The service of the staff was great! They were very kind people. This however is not a 3 star hotel. The rooms reminded me of an old motel.” Feb 4, 2008 by
Moe from Sacramento, CA
“Good Downtown Location, close to Fashion District and highway. Our room had real bad view of some ventilation system and the top of next door building's roof. That was bad.” Feb 3, 2008 by
Keith from San Francisco, CA
“Attractive hotel in an older part of town. The staff was pleasant, polite, and helpful. The location was very convenient to access many places of interest. The parking was difficult to understand and inconvenient. Parking charge was at a premium price and should be disclosed with more emphasis.” Feb 3, 2008 by
Ladonna from Mckinney, TX
“Would definitely stay here again. Very comfortable and quiet. Staff very helpful and friendly. Nice continental breakfast.” Feb 2, 2008 by
Mg from Las Vegas, NV
“We were not satisfied with the room. The room was too small, could not keep the room temperature at a comfortable temperature.” Jan 23, 2008 by
Forrest from Yucca Valley, CA
“This hotel is by far not a 3 star, it would compare to that of a Motel 6. Small room, dirty pillows, poor lighting.” Jan 18, 2008 by
Tj from Valencia, CA
“If youre a business traveler, romantic couple or family looking to the ideal location to enjoy a Downtown experience this hotel will surprises with its comfortable rooms, cordial staff, location and pleasurable setting. For the value expect the unexpected.” Jan 17, 2008 by
Samuel from San Francisco, CA
“This hotel has not kept up their rooms other then the preferred guest rooms. We waited 1 hour for our food and 1 hour to get a room service menu and phone book. They were very slow at the bar and restaurant, I hope I get another 4 star in this area and not the Westin.” Jan 17, 2008 by
Paula from Dinuba, CA
“This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. If I had the extra money to go to a different hotel at the last minute I would have. This was not a 3 star hotel at all & would never have picked this hotel on my own. Wish that when naming the price to be able to pick out of three hotels.” Jan 16, 2008 by
Kevin from Pollock Pines, CA
“Nice rooms with convenient spa and restaurant facilities. Prices were reasonable as was the nightly rate we received. The use of the hot tub was restricted to spa users and a fee of $20 was charged which was disappointing. The water in the room was often cold or only Luke warm and the bathtub faucets were temperamental and difficult to operate. There was a language barrier as most of the hotel staff were not native English speakers.” Jan 9, 2008 by
Kim from Chula Vist, CA
“It was not like I thought it would be it needs better serves and better parking.” Jan 9, 2008 by
Rayne from Riverside, CA
“I stayed there from 1-4-08 to 1-6-08, and I have to tell you this was my worse hotel experience. First, I got there in the middle of a torrential rain, and was soaking wet when I got there. they have no shuttle from the Union Station, nor do they offer one, so I had to walk all the way there. When I checked in, as dripping as I was, no one offered me any towels, nor any way to dry my clothes (they have washers & dryers, but no one made mention of this to me). After going to my room, I noticed that the rooms have a DVD player in them (no one mentioned this either), with instructions on how to obtain a rental. I went to the Front Desk and asked about a rental, and they sent me across the street to Paradise Video to rent a DVD. After going across the street (still torrential rain coming down), they store tells me they only carry Japanese DVD's. No English at all. Off course when I got back to the hotel the Front Desk looked surprised, and I found out later it was because they understood very little English. They had no complimentary newspaper (though they had Japanese newspapers at the Front Desk, all others were outside in the machine). They have nothing complimentary, and they even tried to close the washer/dryer room at their normal time (10:00 p.m.), even though it was still pouring outside (couldn't dry my clothes). The Fitness Center charges $20 to use the facilities, and there was nothing the hotel wanted or offered to do for me, even though I stated my grievances with them as well. There were no English food places in the area except for Subway & Togos sandwich Shops. The problem with that was no one in the hotel knew this, and I didn't find out until I had walked all around in the rain (for 20 minutes) until I found them. This hotel is very English "Unfriendly"! If you aren't Japanese, you have nothing coming. Nothing wrong with the culture, but their site should state this information, and the Staff should at least know what's going on.” Jan 9, 2008 by
Julie from Atascadero, CA
“It was ok but not as nice as Marriott that I have had two times before.” Jan 4, 2008 by
Sarah from San Diego, CA
“I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The staff was very kind. They went above and beyond to make my enjoyable. They even upgraded me to their best room. I would not recommend this hotel for a female traveling alone. This is a dangerous area and the self parking does not seem safe. Even my boyfriend was scared to go out to our car.” Jan 4, 2008 by
Franklyn B. from Glendale, CA
“NA.” Dec 26, 2007 by
Ruben from Los Angeles, CA
“The hotel is located in a great area with many restaurants to pick from but parking should be part of the hotel price.” Dec 14, 2007 by
Marc from Saint Louis, MO
“We made repeated complaints to the front desk about people partying in the next room until 3:30am and their loud talk about illegal drug use. The front desk staff response was to offer to move me to a different room. At 3am. It was only after my insistence that the people in the adjacent room should be moved that the front desk staff reluctantly did so. The manager was completely unsympathetic and unwilling to make any concession for the tortuous night in their facility. It will be a cold day in you know where before I ever stay there again, and I will never recommend that hotel to a friend.” Dec 14, 2007 by
Norbert from Chappaqua, NY
“Efficient but not much else. Staff was ok. No amenities such as newspapers etc.” Dec 8, 2007 by
Jim from Bishop, CA
“OK hotel, but not a 3.5 star. I rated it at 2 stars. Except for having a restaurant on location, it was more like a Motel 6.” Nov 28, 2007 by
Archie from Daly City, CA
“Hotel Miyako is a family friendly hotel that is conveniently located in Little Tokyo.” Nov 26, 2007 by
Lois from Rotonda West, FL
“Good place to stay--transportation via the rapid shuttle was perfect to and from the airport. convenient to Union station. Room was clean and other than the cold water faucet vibrating, everything was pleasant.” Nov 11, 2007 by
Chris from Bakersfield, CA
“Not the kind of place you want to spend any time in - especially with family. Really a 2-Star hotel with deteriorating fixtures and amenities, a bit too far from the attractions of Downtown L.A. to make it anything close to the 3 star rating.”
