Jacob from Jackson, MI
“I found the Sundowner Inn to be passable as a 2-star hotel, but in no way near the standard I've experienced with other 2.5-star hotels. The room was basically clean and appropriately furnished. But it completely lacked the niceties of a 2.5-star hotel, and it had a few detractions: sheets are not fitted; some noise from the nearby highway; smoke and noise coming under the door to the adjacent room; my desk chair seat bottom was broken, such that I would sink into the chair (very uncomfortable). Internet is free, but wired instead of wireless. Breakfast was free, and decent, but not spectacular. I don't think anyone looking for a 2-star hotel will be disappointed with the Sundowner, but you should pay a 2-star price.” Aug 20, 2007 by
Michael from Torrance, CA
“The place is a little run down and the neighboring restaurant had been closed for some time. The overall facility wasn't bad and reasonably clean. It is definitely much better than the very low rating provided by other reviewers. The breakfast was $5 which is reasonable for what you got. My only complaint is the first evening I was looking for something to eat at about 11 pm since I had not eaten dinner. I asked at the front desk but they indicated that it was too late. The next morning, I found a Denny's and a Carl's Jr within about two blocks from the hotel that opened late.” Aug 13, 2007 by
David from Concord, CA
“I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It was overpriced. This hotel was not even as good as the motel 6 that I paid 39 dollars for. Hope they will do better.” Jul 30, 2007 by
Cheri from Arlington, TX
“Good place to stay to catch a flight out of San Jose airport. The staff is friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was great including hot food, various fruit and breads etc.” Jul 3, 2007 by
Melanie from Ripon, CA
“I read some pretty scary reviews about this hotel. I called the Sundowner Inn and spoke to the manager who assured me 2 adults and 3 small children would be ok for the room selected and that I would not be charged for 3 small children. I got to the hotel, the owner was there. He said I could not stay there because there were five of us. It was only when I got really upset that they put me in a suite for $50.00 more. The suite was really nice and clean except for some ants. I did not see the regular rooms. I had to specify that I did not want any maids coming into our room when we were there per other bad reviews on this hotel. The owner said I had to put a do not disturb sign outside the door. That is strange to me. I did not care for the owner at all and the manager is nice but seems very nervous around the owner which is also strange. There were five of us with one king bed. The couch did not pull out into a bed so at 11pm we had to call for a cot.” Jun 10, 2007 by
Linda W. from Grass Valley, CA
“Avoid this dump. The restaurant next to it is closed down. Half of the lights for the hotel sign were burned out or broken.” May 22, 2007 by
Scott from Mountain View, CA
“If you want a good night sleep, find another place.” May 13, 2007 by
Warren from Scotts Valley, CA
“This property clearly does not meet the high standards.” Apr 26, 2007 by
David from Los Angeles
“My company needed me to do some work with another company at Sunnyvale for the past few weeks. I stayed at the Sundowner the first week because of it's proximity to the place that I would be working. My first impression of the room was below average. The room looked old and dark. The carpet was very worn out. The bathroom fluent light took 15 minutes to come on. The internet connection in my initial room didn't work. The clerk switched me to another room and the problem was solved. I asked the night clerk for a free shuttle the next morning to my work place. He told me to come down to the lobby at 8:00 am. I was there at 8:00 and asked the morning clerk about the shuttle. He did not seem to know I had requested for a shuttle. Another older gentleman behind the desk told me to wait by the sofa. I waited for 10 minutes and asked again. The clerk asked me where I was headed. I told him the company name. The clerk asked the older Indian gentleman if he was headed that way. The older Indian gentleman said that is only 1/2 block away, I assumed that he was implying that why I need a shuttle service. Just because of his tone of vice, I just said forget it and started walking there myself. The property of the place that I wanted to go was indeed only a 2 minutes walk from the Sundowner. But the real entrance was about a 20-25 minutes walk. The building that I needed to go was another 20-25 minutes from the main entrance. I was lucky that after I entered the main entrance, one of my co-worker drove by and saved me the rest of the 15 minutes walk and not be late to my meeting.” Apr 9, 2007 by
Joseph from Boonton, NJ
“OK for an economy motel but not as a biz hotel. It was clean enough (except for the pizza box that sat on top of a garbage can in a stairway for 36+ hrs.) and the room was spacious but the decor/quality was plastic (e.g., flimsy plastic sheet of faux tile around bathtub). ” Apr 4, 2007 by
Sherie from Redding, CA
“This is not a 2 1/2 star hotel. It should be rated an economy 1 star motel similar to motel 6 or Econolodge. Hated it - was extremely disappointed for putting us in this property. I've stayed in many 2 1/2 star hotels for past 8 years & know the difference - this did not meet my expectations or should it meet expectations of a 2 1/2 star. Look at your other customer's reviews & you know the star rating is not correct for this property - you need to downgrade the star rating on this one! The front desk even refused to give us new towels after we used our room towels for swimming in their dirty pool. We checked out a day early & took a loss for that last night - wasn¿t worth staying in; we were not enjoying ourselves. Even my teenager didn¿t want to stay - she instead stayed with friends in another hotel. Please downgrade this property so you will not lose customers!” Apr 1, 2007 by
Mark from The Woodlands, TX
“Any more surprises like this and I will stop using your service.” Mar 12, 2007 by
Dalia from Santa Clara, CA
“This hotel is definitely not a 2.5 star level hotel. Besides that their service is horrible. When you check in you are told you have to pay a fee for breakfast. Also, rooms are not the highest standard.” Feb 5, 2007 by
Jeff from Lodi, CA
“NA.” Feb 4, 2007 by
Lois from Anderson, CA
“Was not satisfied with hotel. Will only stay in 3 stars and up. It was older not as clean as should have been. A little insecure as safety. Someone dialed 911 to lobby and did not answer at her door so the police were called. Not a good way to start off 1st night there.” Jan 25, 2007 by
Robert from Incline Village, NV
“I said it once and will say again this is not a 2.5 star hotel in my opinion. Rooms are dark, cold and unattractive. My guess is that the towels and linens were picked up a k-mart sale of previously used items. Simply put, avoid this hotel at all cost.” Jan 20, 2007 by
Virgil from Lotus, CA
“Didn't care for the hotel. Staff was no problem. My room location was next to a major expressway. I would not recommend to any of my friends.” Jan 20, 2007 by
Bob from Tyngsboro, MA
“Terrible.” Dec 16, 2006 by
Sherry from Monrovia, CA
“The sundowner is a nice play to stay. I was confused, though, as to whether or not there was a free breakfast because when I checked in, the clerk said that breakfast was $5.00. Since I didn't plan on being there for breakfast, I didn't ask for any explanation, but it is something that should be explored for accuracy.” Dec 5, 2006 by
Suresh S. from Minneapolis, MN
“Moderate hotel for short business trip. ” Nov 19, 2006 by
Mark from Bakersfield, CA
“In my opinion, this is a decent two-star hotel, but not 2.5. For some, this may be a thin line, but I have stayed at many of these and can tell the difference. This is a glorified motel, not a hotel at all. The rooms needed renovation and a thorough cleaning. The pool looked dirty, and the breakfast was not good at all.” Nov 15, 2006 by
Lisa from Memphis, TN
“Our stay at the sundowner was a downer. We'd relate it at 1.5 stars. We had to place newspapers on the carpet to avoid getting bare feet soiled. Although the small lobby was well appointed, our room needed an overhaul. The best part of our stay was the breakfast and the check out.” Nov 13, 2006 by
Mike from Joshua Tree, CA
“We actually got moved to the county inn which is owned by the same company. It was about a mile away, and was very pleasant. For the star rating and the price my family and I had a good experience. The $5 breakfast place was nice better room for hanging out than most cheap lobby breakfasts.” Nov 13, 2006 by
Alejandro from Plano, TX
“Great location, very nice staff, nice pool, well lit parking.” Oct 31, 2006 by
Gabriel from Selma, CA
“The location of the hotel was good. The hotel looked clean. My only complaint is that the hotel was loud in the early morning (5:30 am) with contractors going to work.” Oct 23, 2006 by
Ark from Ripton, VT
“I would describe this as a motel, not a hotel. The rooms were nice and the free internet access, though not wireless was very valuable to me. The TV was all about user-selected content, and I found I had no use for it and didn't turn it on again after my initial exploration of the options.” Oct 4, 2006 by
Soo-Jin from Champaign, IL
“When I was in the lobby, a person who looks like this hotel owner shouted to his employee. He didn't care of me. Although these is notice what it's for free print within 5 papers, they requested the fare. Comparing to other hotels of the same rating, this hotel's rating is unreasonable. I really disappointed about this hotel environment.” Oct 3, 2006 by
Calvin from Seaside, CA
“This hotel is fine if you aren't able to get into a 2-1/2 stars or higher rated hotel. Like I said it is a decent 2-star hotel.” Oct 2, 2006 by
Keith from Folsom, CA
“2.5 stars is amazingly generous. It is more like a borderline 2 star hotel, and that is being nice. Nothing special, it's half a notch above a motel 6.” Oct 2, 2006 by
Lonette from Hudson, TX
“Hotel was outdated, amenities were poor, service was less than desirable. I would not stay here again by choice.” Sep 22, 2006 by
Robert from Incline Village, NV
“Rundown, worn-out, dilapidated hotel. This hotel does not deserve a 2.5 star rating.” Sep 19, 2006 by
Hector V. from San Jose, CA
“Don't stay here unless your a hooker drug dealer or person who needs 3 parking spaces for your 1986 pinto !” Sep 19, 2006 by
Jim from Johnston, RI
“The staffs there are not helping customers. The hotel is not children friendly.” Sep 11, 2006 by
Chuck from San Francisco, CA
“This hotel is definitely not a 2.5* property, especially compared to another 2.5* property nearby, the Country Inn & Suites. It's actually not really a "hotel," but o motel, with the building a rectangle around a parking lot and courtyard, each room opening to the center and the outside. While it was good to have free high-speed Internet access (wired, not wireless), and the free breakfast was reasonably adequate, the overall quality of the property is low. The beds and pillows are far from plush (and the mattresses feel cheap and old), the towels are thin a somewhat coarse, the decor is something out of the 60s or 70s, the room lighting is dark, and the televisions are old and small. Also, the walls are thin (I heard lots from next door). This property is *not* a 2.5* property; at best, it's 2*, and maybe even 1.5*. ” Sep 11, 2006 by
Kjerstin from San Bruno, CA
“I found it to be a great stay. The room was much larger than I expected and had refrigerator and microwave. It was a little hard to find and the directions weren't great. The front desk did not have a record of my reservation.” Sep 5, 2006 by
Patty from Fresno, CA
“All in all the experience was very good.” May 9, 2006 by
Jennifer from Louisville, KY
“I was a little nervous about staying in this hotel because the reviews I saw on-line were mixed - some okay, some not very good. Our overall experience was good, except for the very dirty floors. Our socks were black after just a few minutes. Other than the floors, the rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff were very nice and accommodating (the refrigerator didn't work, so they brought us a new one).” Apr 3, 2006 by
Matt from Gaithersburg, MD
“It met my expectations.” Jan 3, 2006 by
Connie from Cloverdale, CA
“N/A” Oct 30, 2005 by
Kristen from Hillsdale, WI
“For the most part, the hotel was good. The room was clean, but didn't smell very good. We actually opened the windows to air it out. After that it wasn't too bad. The room also did not have a phone book. We needed to look up some numbers, so we had to go back to the lobby to do so.” Oct 17, 2005 by
Jay from Folsomc, CA
“Should be no more than a 2 star. Unfriendly staff. I think the hotel is going to go under.” Oct 9, 2005 by
Thomas from Chelmsford, MA
“The Sundowner Hotel is convenient, and priced right. However, this is a motel style building, with plenty of parking lot noise. The sauna was nice, but was typically locked, during posted open hours. After returning from work in the evening, I didn't try to track down someone who could open the sauna. There is no whirlpool adjacent to the outdoor pool. I was looking for something relaxing at the hotel, and had trouble finding it. Other than that, it was a good value for the money.” Oct 3, 2005 by
Deepak from San Jose, CA
“It's Good for people who just come in with their car at night and leave in the morning. For someone who comes from India, I prefer Like Hyatt San Jose.” Oct 3, 2005 by
James from Stockton, CA
“This hotel is excellent value for the money. It doesn't look pretty from the outside but the bedrooms are extremely comfortable and spacious for the price. Water pressure is excellent and the beds seem to be relatively new. It lacks shuttle service to the airport and is best for those that have their own car and can get around on their own without depending on public transportation. The lobby is a little disorganized and the overall atmosphere of the lobby kind of makes you a little nervous about the quality of the bedroom that awaits you. Fortunately, the rooms don't disappoint. I highly recommend for those needing to spend between $50 USD and $80 USD per night. Excellent free Internet connection as well.” Sep 29, 2005 by
Robert from Incline Village, NV
“Noisy location, noisy clientele, borderline in terms of furnishings, carpeting etc. I should have stayed at a motel 6.” Sep 25, 2005 by
Jean from Clovis, CA
“I have stayed here several times and it is really going down hill. This last visit the manager was rude to me at check in. Later the same day, the same manager was having a loud heated argument outside my window in the parking lot with another guest about her bill. Also, the shampoo said it was for the Travel Lodge and the soap was from the Radisson.” Sep 19, 2005 by
Phillip from Colorado Springs, CO
“The Sundowner Inn provided me a comfortable place to stay, reasonably close to the tech company I was visiting on business. The room was very large and the bed was comfortable. The wired internet connection was free and very fast. One night I left the lights on in my car and the next morning the battery was dead. The staff was quick to respond with a jump. Overall I was very pleased with my stay at the Sundowner Inn and would be happy to stay there again.” Aug 29, 2005 by
Joe from Oakley, CA
“Beware of this hotel, they try to charge for "extras" that are listed as comp. Only one ice machine was working for the entire property. Drapes would not close, general condition is very poor. A low end Travelodge...” Aug 24, 2005 by
Donna from Mtn. Ranch, CA
“Convienent location, friendly staff and clean rooms, would stay there again” Aug 24, 2005 by
John from Pasadena, CA
“Hotel was ok for 2 1/2 stars. Staff friendly. Wanted to charge $5 per person for their breakfast buffet, so we passed on it.”
