  • Great location, comfortable beds.
  • Room was a little musty.

“This is a great hotel if you are utilizing Amtrak to get to Santa Barbara - it's within an easy walking distance and there are also shuttles available. Lots of food and shops also within walking distance - and don't forget the pier and beach!”

  • Quaint older style but fully equipped with all necessities.

“Great location for the car - less traveler coming in by train. Close to the shops and restaurants on State Street and the beach area near the wharf. Very helpful staff that answered all our questions and accommodated our needs.”

  • Wonderful location near State street and the beach with newly renovated rooms.
  • Parking was not free and the rooms are a little on the small side since it is an older hotel.

“This hotel is a little older so the rooms are on the smaller side, but the new renovation and the extra touches really bring out a charm. Also, location is right on point so that you can walk along State Street for dining, entertainment and shopping or down to the beach to relax in the sun. Santa Barbara is not a place to miss a chance to stay at and this little hotel has all the right features and just the right price.”

  • Location to state street good but also quiet. Proximity to beach good.
  • Hotel has no useful staff just college kids. No services offered and phone system did not work.

“Ok if you don't need any onsite facilities. Simply a nice room with no staff assistance.”

  • Convenience to many Santa Barbara shopping, dining and beach experiences.
  • A little claustrophic in the lobby and stair area.

“Overall, the hotel was very convenient. It was clean and well kept. The lobby and stairs are a little small and therefore easily congested but overall a great stay.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[6] • Location:[8]

  • Centrally located, clean, appeared to be new or newly decorated.
  • Staff seemed to be somewhat indifferent.

“Room was clean, medium sized; everything appeared to be new and in good working order, large flat screen TV. Hotel is clean, well-maintained Spanish style, 1 block from main tourist St. (state St), 10 minute walk to beach and pier. Staff was busy, not overly friendly. Has parking lot and valet parking. Standard hotel-style continental breakfast. I didn't explore much but it appeared that the there was no pool or outside area to speak of.”

  • The rooms are charming - recently renovated. Comfortable bed, too!
  • Construction going on nearby on State Street.

“I was so pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Much better than other Holiday Inn Express. Recently renovated, the style of the rooms and lobby reflects the charm of Santa Barbara. My room was adorable! Bathroom was lovely with granite top vanity. Everything was clean. Super comfy bed and pillows. Wide screen TV. Even a fridge. No restaurant on property, but you are able to order delivery from lots of restaurants.”

  • The location was great for State Street.
  • The employees did not have a clue!!

“Ok, No Bell Hop, no one was available to help my fiance up to her room with her bags and no one was motivated to make a quick five bucks to even try. The "local" front desk staff showed no real desire to help beyond the mere fact of check in or check out. Again, these Apes had no idea what type of restaurants, shops or services were available near by, nor did they show any sign of caring. Listen to me carefully, do not bring someone here if you are looking for a romantic get away. The only thing this place has going for it, is that it is very close to State Street, where you can spend an afternoon shopping, while being accosted by Santa Barbara's precious self-medicated Street Bums and then possibly a dinner out. After that, pack your car and run. Fast!On the positive side? The room was clean.”

  • Clean, well appointed rooms.
  • Small rooms, mediocre service.

“Nice. Hotel was recently remodeled, is a national historical site, was formerly Hotel Virginia. Beautifully redone. Rooms were quite small, although well appointed. Service was unremarkable.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[10] • Location:[9]

  • Great location. Nicely remodeled antique building.
  • Noisy elevator. Easy to hear people walking upstairs.

“The hotel is in a great location. A half-block away from the heart of downtown Santa Barbara. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. They have a strict noise policy that is either very good if you enjoy quiet neighbors or very bad if you have noisy kids or want to have a noisy gathering in your room. Be warned that parking is $7 per night. The rooms are small but very nicely decorated. The hotel has a cozy, romantic European feel. The building is a remodeled early 1900's structure. For the location the price is very reasonable, although it's probably not a good hotel for a family with small children.”
