“I mainly stay in 3.5 or higher hotels - nice ambiance - older hotel, nice staff, convenient location: a few blocks walk to downtown/civic center & church. Only draw back is exterior entrance to rooms - room backed to street but never heard a sound (& I sleep lightly). There are only 3 Star or higher hotels in Athens so get one of these for the extra money (or the Courtyard) is you want to be close to/in town.”

  • It was charming and picturesque, but the service was not the best.
  • I felt it did not live up to its reputation.

“The room was attractive, comfortable but a bit dated and very pricey for what was offered. We ordered room service for breakfast one morning. The coffee was not too good, the muffins were obviously from a mix that was too sugary and were an odd color just not the healthy breakfast they were supposed to be. I went to the grocery store and did better the next morning. The parking was also inadequate, the pool and exercise room were very small. There was a shuttle service to the conference center, however. The spa services were also very pricey even with the discount we were offered. I didn't feel the stay was worth what we paid for, compared to some of the hotels I have stayed at in the Atlanta area.”

  • Breakfast at Hoyt house, check-in desk.
  • Housekeeping.

“My husband and I came to Athens in early May 2008 and we needed a nice place to stay, close to the UGA and downtown. The hotel was what we thought it would be. They gave us a room in the first level saying all second-level rooms were occupied, but we didn't mind. We had breakfast in their Hoyt House restaurant 3 times and the food was very good. They were the only place in town who had fruit salad (I tried a couple of other places for lunch and they didn't). Eggs Benedict were great. Parking was not a problem, plenty of spaces. May be the timing of our visit was right, since we left just before Mother's day and commencement at the UGA. The room was nothing special, a comfortable big bed, very soft sheets. Once we forgot to leave tips and housekeeping gave absolutely no additional supplies. Free high-speed internet, free parking. Well, what else, great food for breakfast rather quiet neighbors. I would recommend this hotel.”

  • Great service, down comforters, great music venue and restaurant on site, in Downtown.
  • Wouldn't always give a plastic bag for the ice bucket.

“It rocks it rocks it rules-Beavis.”

  • Suite was spacious; frig, microwave, coffee, popcorn.
  • Banquets were a nightmare.

“At a conference dinner was to be served at 6:00 pm; at 6:40 pm we still had not been served and they knew we had to walk up the street to board buses at 7:00 pm. We did not get dessert because of it; they said we could have dessert after we returned from the play (300 attendees). Meeting/banquet space did not look clean, hotel room needed attention in corners, etc.; they did not empty all of the garbage cans and replace used glasses in bathroom. Some people said they didn't clean their room at all. They messed up our reservation; I was assured I would have a 1st floor double because my mother is handicapped when we arrived (10:30 am on 1st day of conference) they said all 1st floor doubles were gone they did upgrade to a suite (nice) but I had to share the bed.”

  • Location, pretty interior, restaurant on premises.

“Room smelled a little "musty" when we arrived. After I turned on the air conditioner, it got better. Beds were very nice and the restaurant was great. Very close to University of Georgia which we were visiting.”
