• Magnificent location, historical significance was mind blowing.
• My view was nonexistent.

• Had a CD player and a hookup and speakers for iPod!
• Room view, also room felt a little cramped, but still nice.

• Staff is very helpful. Hotel is right downtown, where I wanted to be.
• The shower did not work properly.

“I have stated at the Montgomery a couple of times, and it is a very good property. It is much smaller than the Hilton or Crowne Plaza, which, for me is a plus.”

• Would have liked a King bed instead of a Queen but had not requested one.

• Friendly staff, clean hotel, good location, easy access to freeway.
• Artificial chocolate armona in registration area. Many people are allergic. Not good.

“This was a very nice little hotel. Excellent staff. The rooms were a little small and the bathroom sink was very poorly designed. The bed was extremely comfortable. The towels, although absorbent, were entirely too rough. We do not appreciate the extra charges for using their parking lot, or any other hotel's parking facilities.”

• The room took some time to warm up.

“The room was very modern and up to date. Very comfortable. We had to go to a small valet only parking lot (right near the entrance), once we unloaded our luggage, we had to park the car in a separate lot. The staff was very helpful in getting our luggage upstairs & getting us parked quickly.”

“If you are a business traveler in Downtown San Jose, skip the neighboring Fairmont and stay at Hotel Montgomery instead. I've stayed in both in the past few months, and the Montgomery gets my vote hands down.”

• The room was re modeled beautifully, attention to detail incredible.
• The parking is horrible; the room was too small and overpriced.

“We rented a car, couldn't find the front of the hotel, had to valet park at $23 per night just to be by the hotel. No signs or e mails to help. We expected more.”

• Very attentive staff. High quality furnishings. Windows open.
• Light rail noise when the window was open.

“This "Boutique" hotel is a first quality property. The downtown location is perfect and the property is very well maintained. The staff is very helpful and always ready to assist a guest. The hotel is only four stories high, so if you need a view, stay elsewhere.”

• No breakfast was served. The restaurant was not part of the hotel. The front desk gave us wrong information about the hours of breakfast the restaurant.

“Good location, but asking too much for parking. The house keeper was good found my cell phone, very courteous. Person from front desk was very helpful and polite.”

“This hotel has attitude. Another guest on my floor was so frustrated that he left an obscene not at the elevator. He said he'd never had such a bad experience as a business traveler. I'd have been better off staying at a 2 star.”

• This hotel is more equipped for the business traveler than any Marriott.

“From the time you check in to the time you check the customer service is implacable. The hotel industry could learn a lot from their customer service philosophy. Every tech gadget is available in the room. Their honor bar in room snacks selection is up to date and fresh.”

• Bed comfortable. Bathroom very adequate.
• Party going on in courtyard below room the first night, with band going until after 11pm. Limited room selection. Limited room service and hours.

“Small hotel with limited room selection and limited amenities. Should not be rated as a four star hotel. Should be a three star hotel at best. Parking expensive.”

• Shower water pressure very poor.

“If you don't care about strong water pressure in your shower this hotel is an A++. Service top notch, linens plush, rooms well arranged. Decor modern and well done. Location central to highways and VTA.”

“The Montgomery is not a 4 star hotel. The proximity of the parking area to the lobby is laughable. One actually must carry/roll their luggage down a busy San Jose street to reach the lobby entrance”

• Half-block hike from parking to hotel entrance.

“Nicely restored hotel from an earlier era. Convenient to convention center, tech museum, art museum, shops, movie theaters. Very upscale rooms which are tastefully done.”

• Excellent decor, prompt cautious staff, perfect for a business traveler.
• Restaurant food quality was fair, I ordered room service and the quality of food was not good.

“Excellent staff, very comfortable room and perfect for a business traveler, however the food from the hotel restaurant was lacking. The chef makes an effort however the taste needs improvement, harsh flavors that don't blend, crab cake was ok, average, but sauce tasted like it came out of a jar, the tomato soup was too spicy and the tomato base was bland, didn't blend well and the Mac-n-cheese side dish was "strange" cheese was too sharp and not smooth, macaroni was undercooked, hard had potential but needs refinement.”

• Service was hit or miss - asked for car from valet & they forgot.

“Overall this is a great hotel but the service was hit or miss. I had a meeting I needed to get to & called to get my car so I could be on my way & they forgot. This caused me delay & was irritating because I was in a hurry. But, very nice room, clean, modern, unique.”

• Accessible and convenient to sic and business partners in market.
• Food and service in restaurant has been very disappointing on my last two visits. Staff not as attentive or does mgmt walk around and ask quests.

• Clean renovated hotel, nicely refurbished.
• Very small room and bed; it was supposed to be queen, but seemed much smaller; smelled of moth balls.

“This is an older, refurbished hotel; very clean, but very cramped quarters. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Was offered to upgrade once we got there to a king size, was sorry we didn't.”

• The staff was very friendly and helpful; the location is within a good morning walking distance from San Jose State University.
• Dribble shower; not the most comfortable mattress, but decent.

“This would be a great hotel for visiting family members of students at the University. Close to campus, etc. We were not connected with the University for our trip, but found it most enjoyable for our morning walk before leaving for the coast.”

• The decor was different and stylish. The bed was AWESOME!
• The towels were hard and the drain in the shower did not work very well.

• The staff was very attentive.
• The radio only carried certain stations. I was unable to get nor 88.5 or 91.1 my jazz station.

“This is a sweet little hotel very close to the jazz festival I attended. There were no major streets to cross. The small size was a delight in the crowded jazz festival atmosphere. I had a couple of drinks in the bar, which were lovely. A pomegranate/ginger infused vodka which was a delicious treat. The room had a lovely bathroom with wonderful aveda products: shampoo, lotion, and conditioner. The extra bar had wondrous products besides good fridge fare. They had a lint brush, a flask, several tempting gourmet chocolates, invisible cards, mojito mints and more. How did I escape without purchase? The privacy shade with another full shade was wonderful. The privacy shade allowed light and privacy. Along with heat and air I was delighted to still be able to open the window. It was great.”
