“The hotel is obviously may years old, but the rooms and public areas have been modernized and are more than adequate. The location is great and I will be bringing my family back for another visit.” Jan 30, 2009 by
Camille from Buffalo,NY
“Only for business travelers who can sleep through anything.” Nov 16, 2008 by
Cathy from Oakdale,CA
“Nothing exciting about this hotel. Clean enough, but not well decorated and very clean. Parking was expensive. Just ok and I don't want to return.” Dec 10, 2007 by
Booze from Phoenix, AZ
“This was a great hotel with a boutique flavor. The staff was courteous and the location was central to the best San Fran has to offer. I wasn't sure if this was going to be the best choice for a business trip, but it worked out great.” Dec 5, 2007 by
Nanci from Menlo Park, CA
“Great location for sightseeing, shopping, and dining. Our room was sort of small, but that was my only criticism. We didn't spend very much time in our room, so I would definitely stay there again. We used the hotel parking, but we could not get to or from the lot without dragging our luggage up or down stairs. When we left, we were forced to use a bellman.” Dec 2, 2007 by
Marji from El Dorado Hills, CA
“Very nice hotel the staff was very friendly the restaurant food and was very good I will go back again.” Nov 21, 2007 by
Jed from El Dorado, CA
“It was nice, but the location of our room was strange. We had to go down a lobby, up a few stairs, and then get on an elevator. The layout was bizarre, and we actually had a difficult time trying to get back to the lobby.” Oct 12, 2007 by
Neil from Tampa, FL
“Very nice and spacious room, great location, good value for SF.” Sep 26, 2007 by
Bob from Hobart, IN
“Overall I was very satisfied with my stay. The hotel is located close to the square and a comfortable walk to the Moscone Center or Chinatown. There is a daily fee for internet service. Parking is $43/day.” Sep 12, 2007 by
Marjorie from Vista, CA
“The location of this hotel is excellent--right off Union Square. It's a historic hotel so there are definitely some aspects of it that are not modern. That's not necessarily a bad thing but you need to be aware to know what to expect. Our windows were right over all the air conditioning machines so it was noisy. There were windows facing ours in very close proximity so we could not keep our blinds open at all unless we were okay with people seeing us. The room was comfortable but not luxurious.” Jul 29, 2007 by
Jeff from Mount Laurel, NJ
“For the money, this hotel was quite adequate. It was clean and the adjoining restaurant was quite good. The location was excellent--right off of union square and all of its activity. While this was great for convenience, it made for somewhat noisy evenings.” Jul 7, 2007 by
Mary from Woodacre, CA
“It was a good and comfortable place to stay. Not perfect e.g., the telephone did not work in the room. Overall, for San Francisco it was a good value, clean and well kept. The only major negative was that we needed to climb several stairs with our luggage to get to the elevator.” Jun 12, 2007 by
Edgar from Orange, CA
“The location of the hotel was great it was easy to get to and the check in process was fast and easy. The hotel felt safe and the staff was nice.” Jun 10, 2007 by
Peeks from Newport Beach, CA
“Moderate hotel, with very helpful and friendly service. Location was perfect for being without a car and seeing the sights. The room was kind of noisy, we could hear the family in the room above us running around with their kids at 6:00 AM, and the floor was gross with make-up stains. The upside was it was connected to the Daily Grill so room service and meals were great!” Apr 23, 2007 by
Francie from San Diego, CA
“I was very happy with the accommodations and the environment. Location great, easily accessible to all of union square.” Apr 9, 2007 by
Terry from Gardnerville, NV
“Small rooms, quiet and perfect location to union square.” Apr 5, 2007 by
Cecilia from Chowchilla, CA
“I loved the atmosphere of this hotel. The staff were very helpful when we had question and very friendly. Even the house keeping staff was very friendly and always greeted us when we would see them in the hall ways (very sweet of them). The staff in all seemed very happy. I loved the restaurant of the hotel, my breakfast was very good. The only reservation I have about staying there is how load it is at night (to be expected in the city). For a weekend getaway it's hard when we work lots of hours and on the go all the time then spending a weekend with hardly any sleep is not my cup of tea. I think a big improvement for this hotel is if they installed updated windows that would filter out the majority of the noise. But Iżm still open to staying there. Oh and if they would clean the hair of the wall of the bathroom would be nice also. These are just suggestions not complaining at all. We had allotted of fun and enjoyed ourselves and our stay and the handler.” Mar 29, 2007 by
Alexander from Citrus Heights, CA
“Excellent location to all you want for your great vacation.” Mar 25, 2007 by
Catherine from Los Gatos, CA
“I thought the price was fantastic for the theatre area on Geary and for union square and downtown shopping. The rooms were quiet and clean. If going to the theatre you need to eat before you go because their dining room stops serving dinner at 10:15pm. You get a little lost in the hotel (no one to help you) going to the parking garage and you walk by an empty pool-that was not very inviting. Parking was $40/nite which is a real deal for that area of San Francisco.” Mar 24, 2007 by
Roger from Citrus Heights, CA
“Hotel was great! Excellent location right next to the trolley and close to all so attractions. The beds are very small, I had to share a full with my friend and it was horrible, it was the smallest full Iżve ever experienced. Overall if I were alone or had one guest to share a queen or king size bed with Iżd come back again, great hotel. But traveling as a group or family the hotel was cramped.” Mar 18, 2007 by
Panomsak from Bangkok, CA
“Good in overall.” Feb 28, 2007 by
Mary from Grass Valley, CA
“Convenient location. Friendly staff. Clean rooms.” Feb 25, 2007 by
Thao from Eureka, CA
“Unwelcoming receptionist was the worse, and small stained room. It also cost $41 to park at the hotel's parking lot, while you can park across the street for 1/2 the price.” Feb 21, 2007 by
Sadija from San Jose, CA
“I would recommend the hotel because of it's location but I have stayed at better in the area for less.” Feb 20, 2007 by
Kris from Petaluma, CA
“Great value for the location. Room decor and bed linens was 3 stars for sure. Small bathroom meant shower only -- the biggest (and only) drawback.” Feb 18, 2007 by
Eric from Tucson, AZ
“Overall, I had a very positive experience and would stay at this hotel again. The location, a half-block west of Union Square, is fantastic - close to great shopping, dining, theaters, and public transportation. Every staff member I encountered was pleasant and professional. I arrived at 8:30 a.m. expecting to have to store my bags until the 3:00 p.m. check-in time, but the friendly and helpful desk clerk was able to get me checked in early. Check-out was a snap, and the bell captain, was wonderful about storing my bags, letting me have a private spot to quickly unpack, change clothes and shoes, and re-pack, and then getting me a cab when I was ready to leave for the airport. Room service was prompt and courteous, and the food (both the dinner served in my room and the lunch eaten at the Daily Grill itself) was good, with more than generous portions. The newer Club tower is rather difficult to reach from the main part of the hotel, involving several flights of stairs of varying heights and a walk across the pool courtyard (I should have taken the desk clerk up on her offer of having a bellman take my luggage when I checked in), but I understand that the Club rooms are more spacious than in the older part of the hotel. My room was handsomely decorated and the bed was comfortable but the carpet was shabby (worn and torn in spots) and spotted. Apart from the carpet, my room was in good condition. The view was really ugly, looking onto another building's back side across a dingy alley. The noise level was high, but it didn't prevent me from sleeping. Despite the flaws, I would recommend this hotel.” Nov 29, 2006 by

“Very clean and so quite place. I enjoyed.” Nov 13, 2006 by
Dawn from Stockton, CA
“Handler - was very is to fine in SF. Short walk to all local shops in Union Square. Will stay again. ” May 13, 2006 by
Margaret from Riverside, CA
“We had to use the back entrance for convenience so we missed the lovely lobby and any staff. But our room was comfortable and we loved having an air conditioner and balcony, except it faced the back of the buildings next door and they were dirty and unappealing. So we closed our privacy curtains, still allowing in sunshine and enjoyed the room. I would stay here again but ask for a room facing the street not the pool area. Because we were roomed in a different building from the original hotel we did not enjoy the quaint old hotel feel. But the location to union square couldn't be better.” May 3, 2006 by
John from Stockton, CA
“Location is top; I wish the transit from garage to lobby was better arranged for oldsters, it is a challenge. I'd stay there again.” Apr 12, 2006 by
Gene from White Plains, NY
“Well located, clean, attractive pool and rooms.” Mar 19, 2006 by
Phyllis from Dallas
“Overall, I enjoyed this hotel very much. The price was right and the room was very comfortable. I expected a larger than average hotel room but it was maybe only slightly larger than a standard double-bed hotel room. The balcony area was nice but too cold to use during my stay. I requested the pool view and had no noise complaints. The proximity to shopping and transportation was awesome. If you stay here, be sure to eat at Lefty O'Doul's next door, great food and decent prices!” Mar 15, 2006 by
Tracy from Medford, OR
“Great location to theaters and shopping with prices below the range of most hotels of it's caliber. Lots of 4 start amenities, although rated 3 star. Large room (upgraded) and pool, great restaurant. Friendly staff. Parking on site (pay).” Mar 8, 2006 by
Sue from Rhinelander, WI
“Disappointed with the service at the desk, did not have our reservations, everything seemed a little dingy, though not dirty. Convenient location for Union square area-a little far from convention center.” Oct 6, 2004 by
Alonzo L. from Saint Louis “The staff was very friendly and check-in was very fast. The room was comfortable and the location could not have been better for the area I selected. Elizabeth G. from Lafayette, CA “I was gravely disappointed that this hotel could be rated a three star accommodation. The room was very small, stuffy and there was PAINT PEELING on the exterior.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.
