  • The looks from the outside - tall impressive building and all.
  • Everything else.

“My wife and I arrived with our two young boys at 9:20 PM. As we were making our way from the car to the lobby doors, some passing teenage girls yelled something at us, and we could have sworn they said something like that place is haunted! We didn't think much of it, and went on in. The front desk clerk complained her internet connection was down and thus couldn't find which room we had reserved. So her first try, didn't let us in the door even after she ran the second set of key cards through the machine. Then she gave us key cards to another room. We got into room, but in the oddly dim light of the first room in the suite we saw outdated and sparse furnishings with towels and linens in weird places. We rounded the corner and saw in the bathroom that half the ceiling tiles had fallen in, and there was a weird creepy black tube snaking from an open space above down to the floor. We got spooked, wondering what else might fall down from the ceiling in the middle of the night at a dive like this, so we hightailed it out of there and checked in at another hotel. Later, we found that this hotel is listed among haunted places to stay.”

  • Leaving the place.
  • Like being in a B grade horror movie.

“Our room was freezing cold. We spent the first night in our long johns and socks because all the other rooms they offered us were just as cold, or nastier. Breakfast was a combination of cold, fake eggs, stale bread, and orange juice from a can in a dimly lit, cold dining area. The place needs to be either torn down or completely gutted and rebuilt. Nasty carpets, moldy smelling hallways with water damaged ceilings. The door to our room looked like someone, sometime, had broken into it with a crowbar. The staff was indifferent and complexly unwilling to give us a break on the price after enduring a freezing night before they fixed the heat. The shower water was luke warm.”

  • Historic.
  • Dirty, unkept.

“Lobby was cool, historic, elevator was open, impatiently waiting for us to get inside. Upon arriving to the fourth floor, the smell and lack of attention overwhelmed us, scared us really. We enter into our room, 412, and find the nearest lamp to the door does not work, go to the next lamp, it works, too bad because our eyes searched the room, eyes growing bigger, fear growing bigger than eyes. That room looked as if no maintenance crew in it for years, and the cleanliness. The bed frames were so loose, they shook with each tear falling from my eyes and from my husbands chuckles. The smoke detector, if it worked was hanging by thin threads of electrical wires, ready to fall or spark. The bathroom, yes the bathroom, grim, mildew, filth in every corner. And the carpet, stretched beyond it life with a dark stain in the middle of the room, coming off of the bathroom, what really happened here? We stayed maybe 10 minutes and bolted - scared for our lives!”

  • Leaving the hotel.
  • The entire experience.

“From the second I walked through the doors of the Ben Lomond hotel I realized I had made a huge mistake by staying there instead of the Hampton Inn and the Marriott. When we first walked in our room, we noticed a broken door handle/door, scratches on all the bathroom doors, and slashes in the carpet. Later we noticed orange spots all over the ceiling. When we asked the front desk for a different room, they were extremely rude and unhelpful. We spoke to them both on the phone and in person and didn't get anything out of them. After finally persuading the lady to let us look at a different room, she gave us keys to look at a room where the heater was broken. This has been the worst hotel experience of my entire life. Do not stay in the hotel. I would've rather been on the sidewalk. They have the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. Oh and the breakfast, is crap. Dry boiled potatoes, fake eggs, stale ham, old juices, stale breads and bagels, and no room to eat it.”

  • Couldn't find any.
  • Un-happy workers, unclean-furnish, inconvenient.

“I travel around a lot and I know what hotels should be like for the price they ask for. I didn't find anything that I thought was good. Here is the list of things I experienced at this worst hotel I've ever been. 1. The carpet in front of bathrooms (both men's and women's) on the main floor was soaking wet. It was gross. 2. This hotel is absolutely no wheelchair accessible. It is structured with stairs from any directions you try to go inside the hotel. 3. They don't clean up snow. 4. This front desk lady is awfully mean and the manager for that day has an attitude and he was no help. This security guy was also awfully showing us a bad attitude. 5. The whole hotel is dim. 6. Their new club, Rumor's, is really small and no fun. Please know that I was there as a customer and I experienced this with my friends. I don't want anyone to waste money with bad time on your fun trip!”

  • It's historical standing.
  • The elevator is frightening.

“If you get a chance, stay at the Marriot instead. I don't know how this hotel earned its 3-star status. It has great potential, but that potential is not realized--mediocrity at its finest.”

  • Very clean hotel!
  • The hotel was great but at night it was very noisy (from outside). I believe they were car racing on the main street in front of the hotel!

“The hotel was nice and clean. The staff was very friendly. Hot breakfast buffet was wonderful! The only thing that bothered us was the noise coming outside of the hotel. Kids were car racing each other and all night long you could just hear the revving of the engines!”

  • Nice bathroom.
  • The general material condition of the hotel is substandard. The elevator is frightening, and the neighborhood is like a demilitarized zone.

“Being on the 8th floor on the north side of the building provided a nice view of MT. Ben Lemon. One thing that I immediately noticed was that the room looked nothing like the pictures on the website. My room did not have a couch or coffee table, and had absolutely nothing on the walls. The lack of horizontal surfaces was immediately apparent and the bare walls made the room were very barren in appearance. It also soon became apparent that the thermostat was merely a decoration. The room was stuffy and hot. The outside temperature was in the 50s but it was 80 in the room. I turned on the air conditioning and heard a fan, but the temperature was not tolerable until about 3:00 am. The bathroom was nice and bigger than average with a jetted tubs. That was a plus and the bathroom was the only thing that prevented the Ben Lemon from being a total bust. The people at the front desk raved about the free hot breakfast in the morning and I had high expectations. Breakfast is from 7:30-10:30 but when I came down at 8:45; all the hot items were gone. The hot breakfast that I expected turned out to be a far below-average continental breakfast that only offered coffee, juice, bagels, dry cereal, and coffee cake. The staff members that I asked provided various excuses ranging from "the truck didn't show up" to having a kitchen fire earlier that morning. The lady running the restaurant area told me that the cooking staff had unexpectedly packed up and left. I never found out the real cause of the breakfast fiasco. The lady at the front desk told me that there were several cafes located nearby when I was checking out. I would've expected them to at least refund me $10 since their breakfast turned out to be a bust, but all I got was a weak monotone "sorry 'bout that." ”

  • It is a historic hotel.
  • Food, staff, cleaning crew, lounge, gym, etc.

“This hotel does not come close to being rated as a 3 star hotel. From the poor quality of the breakfast to the sparse and inoperative gym equipment, and cleaning staff that didn't even bother to stop by to clean the room, it barely rates as a 1 star. This historic hotel could be a wonderful destination with better hotel management.”

  • Rooms were all suites-most of the staff was friendly.
  • Our room was a little shabby compared to rest of hotel--scary emergency exit!

“Everyone was great but the morning desk clerk girl was blatantly rude. The elevator broke down with our kids inside and she was so rude to them earlier that they were too scared to call down to the desk. Not only that but she was so rude to me when I confronted her about it that I will never go back. It's too bad because we liked the hotel and the rest of the staff. There were some other guests on the elevator with us that also commented on how rude she had been to them.”
