• The bed slept great.
• No vending, only room service.

“Lobby, dining, and bar was under renovation and not open. Work dust was everywhere. Rooms were very generic, nothing on the walls (pictures, art, etc). Disappointing.”

“Even though the hotel is in the midst of renovations, this hotel stay was the best I have had in NYC. The staff was incredibly friendly, providing early check-in and a room upgrade for us to a corner room overlooking 42nd. I can't wait to come back after renovations have been completed!”

“Wish I had known about the construction that was going on ahead of time. Could not sleep past 7am (a problem when up late at Times Square) because of construction noise. Temporary entrance and check in was very poor.”

• Housekeeping was very thorough, polite and communicated well about when we would like our room cleaned.
• There wasn't a flat screen TV and the remote was kind of worn out, but we didn't do much television watching anyway.

“The New York Helmsley was very clean and in a safe and convenient area. The King Size Simmons bed and bedding were amazingly cozy and comfortable. It was so nice to come home to a clean room each evening. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. They hailed us cabs, helped us use the business center, gave us umbrellas and cleaned our rooms when it was convenient for us. I understand the Lobby and Restaurant/Bar are under construction which was just a slight inconvenience. I look forward to staying at the New York Helmsley again once all renovations have been made. I'm sure it will look gorgeous!”

“all in all ok, due to reconstruction I just saw hotel room, elevator and reception. Cleanness of hotel room (esp. bath room) could be improved.I expected Docking Station for ipod, unfortunatley it wasn't there. But Wifi was there - great to look things up quickly!”

“I would never spend money at this hotel again. I was disgusted with the appearance of the hotel. The room was dirty stains on the walls and ceilings. Bathroom was dirty. I did not even sleep in the hotel You couldn't pay me to lay in the bed!”

• Clean, convenient, and friendly staff
• Overly firm beds and poor in-room lighting. Too dim.

“Overall the experience was pleasant. Relatively clean, comfortable and a friendly staff. The major downside was the mattress were very hard and the room and bathroom lighting was too dim. Makes it hard to put make-up on.”

• Unbelievable. The beds were so comfortable.

“We were absolutely blown away from how fabulous this hotel was. We were expecting something completely different than what was our actual experience. The location couldn't be beat because we were a 2 minute walk from Grand Central Station. If this hotel is ever an option again, and it the price was higher, we would stay there again without question. Fabulous hotel!”

• The location.
• The lobby is too small. The key never worked. We had to get a new key 4 times. Unacceptable.

“Unfriendly from the get go. The noise from the garbage trucks after midnight woke us up. The lobby is too small and uncomfortable. The doorman never opens the door. The whole experience was very poor. We travel a lot. This Hotel did not meet our expectations at all.”

“For the price, you simply cant beat this hotel. The spaciousness for a NYC hotel room is simply unbeatable. The entire place was clean, staff friendly and concierge most helpful. Would definitely stay there again.”

“Nice and clean. Concierge and bell staff helpful. Bell staff assure only hotel guests obtain access to elevators at night. Nice but pricey bar/grill to side of lobby.”

• Location.
• Phone charges, quality of facilities, staff attitude.

“First impressions were not great. Reception staff had a fairly casual and unbothered attitude towards us. The room we had been 'oks' (nothing to get excited over) but had to change it after the first night because of serious water leak in our bathroom. We managed to get the room changed only after making three calls to reception to get them to come and do something about the problem. The second room was described as a 'complimentary upgrade' but was the same as the first apart from the replacement of the cart TV with a led TV. Also one of the phones did not work, and neither did the TV remote control (not that we used it much). Bar staff had the same attitude as the reception staff. Phone calls were extremely expensive (minimum charge of $19 (yes, nineteen dollars!) For making even a local call. Location of the hotel is the only positive thing I can say about this hotel. I suggest you avoid it.”
