• Scented room was a nice touch. Comfy bed and fluffy pillows. Fridge. Safe.
• Shower curtains smelled. Spittle in elevator wasn't cleaned up until almost a whole day later.

• The rooms were tastefully decorated, clean & comfortable.
• First room was quite small and heat control was an issue.

• Our room was in the back corner of the hotel with air compressors outside our window and loud banging water pipes in the bathroom.

• Location.
• Multiple problems.

“The hotel was a good value, but there were a couple of problems (not entirely the hotel's fault). First, when we walked in our room an hour before out dinner reservations we flip-oped on the lights and a fuse blew. I called the front desk and it took 45 minutes for them to send someone to address the problem and that was after multiple calls to the front desk. Then at 6 am the next morning there was a problem with the smoke alarms in the hallway and they started going off. When that was fixed the maintenance people used to loud speakers to announce to the whole floor 3 times that it was a false alarm. Needless to say, I didn't get back to sleep after all the commotion.”

• I loved the way the hotel was arranged and decorated it was beatiful, I also liked that there was a gym in the hotel and its own bar in front.
• I think they could have included more amenities and continental breakfast for the price.

“This was definitely and upscale hotel in beaut), the staff was helpful and it the location was not bad. The only issue is that the breakfast was not free, other than great hotel.”

• The staff was very friendly and helpful. it was in a good location.
• No shower door. over $50 per night to park in garage.

“It was very conveniently located. Staff was very helpful and nice. The room was very tiny. To park in the garage, it cost over $50 every time you wanted to take your car out. It was a good hotel in general. I would probably stay again....maybe.”

• I liked that the bathroom and shower was really big. The beds had comfortable linens.
• It just didn't feel like it had that little bit extra to be a 3 1/2 star. I thought the Renaissance was better, and that was only 3 stars.

“This hotel was just fine. So I'm not sure why I felt like that. Perhaps this hotel felt a little outdated compared to the new Renaissance.”

• Pillows were too fat, although they were at least feather.

“This was my husband and my 15 year old daughters first time in in New York City. Last minute plans were made via priceline, recieved and excellent rate. The hotel was perfect for our needs. People were extremely friendly. We parked a block away not at hotel parking for a cheaper rate (coupon). We bought a one-day metro pass and the rest of the time we walked. We were in NYC for 2 nights and did quite a bit. Hotel was a great location and very comfortable to sleep in both nights. Very close to grand central station, places to eat, etc.”

• Construction! And the hotel elevators were difficult to get into and out of.

“Our hotel room was spacious, clean and modern. The pull-out sofa was the most comfortable I have ever experienced. The Avedo products were fantastic! The courtesy desk responded promptly to a call for extra sheets. Loved it!”

• Issue with dust coming through vents due to construction.

“Fridge and convection oven in room helped defray some cost of traveling with older children. Hotel was conveniently located (5 blocks from grand central). There was an issue of dust coming trough air vents due to construction but would more than likely stay here again. Hotel staff was very helpful. They went out of their way to orient us to public transportation and most convenient ways to get about the city.”

• The bar/restaurant called Rare. Best burger ever!
• The room smelled like smoke and there were renovations going on. Loud banging at 9.00 am sharp.

“I liked the hotel. I would probably stay there again. But I didn't like the fact my room smelled like an ashtray. They even put an air cleaner when we were out but that didn't do anything. Also the hotel is going through major renovations. Didn't impact us because we were getting up early. I had the best burger at there restaurant. I would recommend this hotel to my friends and family.”

• The staff was VERY accommodating. The suite we had was very attractive and roomy. Awesome experience!
• There is nothing that I did not like.

“Hearing so many stories about people being disappointed with rooms in New York City, I was a little apprehensive about what we would experience at the Shelburne Murray Hotel. Luckily, my husband, son, and I were thrilled with the accommodations we discovered. When the staff found out that there were 3 in our party, they gave us a suite which would allow all of us a better nights sleep. The staff went above and beyond our expectations. In addition. The room was beautiful. It was large and very up to date. The beds were comfortable, and we had an awesome view of the city from our bathroom window! My friend, who is from the New York area, was very impressed and said she would recommend the Shelburne to friends who may come into the city for a visit.”

• The location and amenities were very good.
• The in-room coffee maker didn't work very well - lots of coffee spilled and not great quality.

“Our overall experience with this hotel were very good. The location was excellent, and the room had recently been renovated with a number of amenities that we particularly appreciated: a fridge with an ice maker, reading lights on the headboard, lots of storage space, great beds and very quiet. Very spacious by New York standards.”

• Under renovation. Hallways outside our room was in disarray.

• Good location with a comfortable bed! Nice rooftop patio and onsite good restaurant.
• Bathrooms were very small. Construction was noisy on the Saturday morning we were there.

“Conveniently located a few blocks southwest of Grand Central Station, the hotel offers a comfortable bed to sleep on but not much else with respect to the room itself. The rooftop patio is a nice feature providing hotel guests with a place to unwind and see the views of the city. The onsite restaurant Rare offered reasonably priced and good food and the complimentary simosas with brunch on the weekend is a nice touch!”

• Comfortable hotel with very comfortable room; it looked more like an apartment.
• Response for service was slow.

“Nice comfortable hotel in a very nice neighborhood (Murray Hill). Hotel lobby was nice with attractive art work. Staff was friendly. Room was huge for New York standards. It included a kitchen, seating area and big bedroom. It had lots of closets. It felt like a big one-bedroom New York apartment. It was very clean. It was great. There are a lot of restaurants on 3rd ave, which is one block from the hotel.”

“The room we stayed in was spacious. It came with a small stove and a mini fridge. The bathroom needs the most help. For a 3 star hotel, the bathroom totally does not belong. The view was horrible as we were looking at a rusty wall when the curtains were drawn.”

“The beds were comfy, I loved the kitchenette. I walked to the Empire State building and Grand Central Station. One street down is a neighborhood restaurant, drug store, bagel shop, and cheap food alternatives. I would go back again!”

• The location was great, the hotel was nice & clean, and the staff was very helpful. The restaurant next door was absolutely great.
• The double bed rooms were small to be a suites hotel. I thought the rooms would have been a little larger.

“This hotel is located in a great area, walking distance to restaurants, eating, and you feel safe walking the neighborhood. The staff was helpful and friendly. The hotel was very clean, neat, and nice. We enjoyed our stay and I would recommend this hotel to others visiting the area. Also, I would go back to this hotel again when visiting the area.”
