  • Was inexpensive for food and drinks.
  • Bottom rate alcohol brands, front staff not helpful with problems.

“Cheap, but once you are there, there is an up charge for everything. Buffet was good. Grounds clean and attractive. Excellent pool. Our room key continually did not work. Waited an hour each day for help to come. Front staff was indifferent to this. Maids did an excellent job. They had their own name brand liquor, which was close to white lightning. Main bar opened at 5:00 and had name brands, but those were an up charge of $4 or more each. I guess you get what you pay for on this one. It is inexpensive so locals with families and single young adults come to party due to the price.”

  • Secluded location with unspoiled beaches surrounded by fauna and flora.
  • The quality of the night entertainment was not up to par with hotels of similar rating.

“Hotel Playa Tambor is located in an isolated bay on the pacific coast with unspoiled beaches in the heart of the rain forest. At any given time you can see different forms of wildlife (monkeys, racoons, etc.)in and around the hotel. The food, accommodations and the lay out of the hotel are very good. The service was quite friendly and due to its isolated location, you were made to feel very safe. Not too much going on at night time but I purposely chose this hotel because I liked the idea of being surrounded by the mountains, the long stretches of beach and nature in general. If you like the outdoors and like taking long walks on an unspoiled beach, then I would highly recommend it! I liked it so much that I plan on returning later in the year.”

  • Clean rooms with nice staff.
  • Food!

“While the hotel was nice the food was horrible. the buffet had mostly beef and pork, which we do not eat. we were offered shrimp only one night out of six. the salad, bread, and desserts were left out in the open with flies all over them. squirrels were inside the buffet area and would hop on the tables to be fed. we had a lizard in our bed one night and crabs in the bathroom. the staff was great but that was all. mail did not go out the entire time we were there either. my family never has received there postcards bought and mailed from there four weeks ago!”

  • Beautiful beach, clean hotel, awesome setting, great people, lots to do
  • Food, traveling to the Barcelo by land/ferry takes about 6-8hrs

“We just got back from the Barcelo Tambor. The hotel itself is great but there were a few things that we didn't like. The food was terrible at the buffet. We ate at the a la carte twice because it was much better than the buffet (not much) but the rest of the time we ate off the resort which was amazing. I would highly recommend eating in Tambor at Christina's and at Tambor Tropical (the chef is an Irishman). We had lunch and dinner at both and were not disappointed. We also ate at Estrella de la Playa in Pochote Town and that was fabulous. The chef, is from England, We ate there twice, even enjoyed a Superbowl party there. There are also rooms at Estrella and tours run by Camareno. He does alot of sport fishing. It's about $5 each way for a taxi to these restaurants and at Estrella Camareno will sometimes pick up or drop off at the hotel. The Barcelo was very clean and the staff was very friendly, we had alot of help from the front desk. The beds are fairly uncomfortable and the water temperature and pressure change alot in the shower. If you want a lounge chair on the beach or at the pool go early..7am We went on a few tours..not through the hotel. We walked down the beach to Tambor. He took us to Montezuma and the waterfall, Tortuga Island snorkeling with a BBQ lunch on the beach..yummy lobster and Curu National Park(go really early to see the best animals). He will customize a tour for you. The hotel offers caymen feeding at night for $15, we just followed the group into the small park on the property, the caymens are in a fenced pit in the back, there are also howler monkeys there. One thing I really did not like..we had to take our bags down to the desk the night before we left because we took the air transfer. Somebody went through our bags, thankfully nothing was taken. We couldn't understand why the bags didn't go with the bus like they did coming to the resort. That is the only draw back of the air transfer. We arrived at the hotel at 2pm and the land/ferry people arrived 7 hours later.I would recommend the Barcelo Tambor but not the food.”
