• 150 drunken soldiers.

“It was awful. The hotel has taken on a contract to provide Canadian soldiers just back from the front line with 'R&R'. 150 of them at a time. Rowdy, drunk; they make the pool effectively off-limits for anyone with children - occasional fights. How many genuine 5 star hotels have military police attending to check on the guests or boxes of condoms in the lobby? Spoke to various other English groups. All appalled. We checked out after one night. Hotel promised that they would not charge us at all, but I have returned to an e-mail saying that we are being invoiced for that night! Uncomfortable bed, indifferent food. Standard room poor, 'club' room not much better. Just not a 5 star hotel. If I had known the truth, I wouldn't have touched it with a bargepole.”
