• Unique and stylish decor, fair price, nice toiletries, great pre-cruise stay.
• The air quality was a little damp even with the AC.

“I spent one night at the Normandy in San Juan before a cruise. It met all of my needs. Staffs were very friendly. The decor was unique and stylish. It was a short cab ride from the airport and only 5-10 minutes from Old San Juan and the cruise port. The beds were comfortable. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.”

• The customer service at this hotel was horrible. The hotel is outdated and dirty.

“It was old, dirty and rundown. The customer service was horrible. We arrived at midnight and there was no room available. We had called two hours prior to arriving and they told us the room would be ready when we arrived. We had four people and requested two double beds, they said no problem. This was not available either. They sent up a roll away cot for my one son and the other had to sleep on a couch. They also had no extra pillows for the kids. They said they ran out. I would never return here or recommend this hotel to anyone.”

“I had read horrible things about this hotel after I had already booked it. When we arrived we found a very old hotel that was probably grand at one time. With a little help it could be back to that state again. .”

• The staff was very helpful and accommodating.
• The facilities/structure were in disrepair.

“I do not feel the hotel deserves the star status it currently has. It should be one - one & half star lower. The exterior of the building was crumbling on the parking lot side. The pool had broken light fixtures. The blinds in the room were extremely difficult to open or close. The elevators seemed to be broken more often than they were working.”

“The hotel had charm because it was built in 1930/s - the room size was very spacious, but the blaring, vibrating music in the atrium which was open in the center kept us awake till 1 a.m. -it was like torture, we were tired after traveling all day and just wanted to rest.”

• Furniture in the room was badly stained.

“The staff was great, the food was pretty good, and the architecture of the building was great- but the rooms themselves were in need of upgrading. Room was strangely laid out- opened into a poorly lit office area, then over the sloping floor to the bedroom. Beds were nice and comfy and linens were clean. No closet, just a curtained off area. Had a 'sun room' with badly stained furniture but nice view. Bathroom was dirty, as was the carpet in the rooms. Walls throughout the room were cracked and those that were patched were poorly fixed.”

“Nice location, nice staff, the rooms war very clean, but the rooms could be updated. Bathrooms were an old tub/shower arrangement, where most bathrooms now have the marble /tile set up. We would stay there again if priced right.”

“There was very loud music in the atrium that kept us awake until after 1:00am both nights. The room was musty, needed plastering, had a screw sticking up from the bathroom door sill, had mismatched and sagging ceiling tile and was disappointing. We wore our shoes in the room as the carpet was old and dirty. Very disappointing other than the location which was good. It should be only a 1 or 2 star not a 3 star.”

“The Normandie Hotel exceeded my expectations for a 3-star property. The hotel staff was accommodating and went out of their way to assist in all requests. The facilities were excellent and the location was convenient to Old San Juan, Condado, Isla Verde, and the airport. I highly recommend this property!”

“An old art-deco type hotel with much character. Things were clean but well-worn and in need have upgrade. Restaurant was average/below average. Staff was excellent and went out of their way to assist in answering questions. If you want the feel of an old, historic type hotel, this is the place. Probably would not stay there again.”

• Nearby a beautiful beach and old San Juan fort.
• In between old San Juan and Condado. Had to cab everywhere.

“Hotel public areas are beautifully maintained. Security was excellent and in sight at all times. Bellman friendly and accommodating. The hotel is somewhat isolated in between old San Juan and Condado. Had to take cabs that cost between $15 and $25 every day that we wanted to go to clubs and restaurants.”

“The Normandy was reasonably clean. The restaurant and convenience shop were very expensive. There was nothing to do within walking distance. Dining options are limited. We stayed pre and post cruise. It is reasonably close to old San Juan and the cruise terminal.”

• Great Art Deco appeal. Close to Old San Juan and Condallo area for night life and shopping.
• Stained carpet and furniture in rooms. Beach area and pool boring.

“Normandie is a moderate priced hotel with great staff and a good location. The rooms are better on the upper levels. It is close to the Hilton (where you can find out about tours and rent a car and get a taxi or hang out at their pool area); it is also close to Old San Juan and Condallo. You would enjoy your stay there.”

• There are no "restaurants" or other lounge areas. Pool is just ok not like the other 4-star hotels.

“This hotel is good for people that are on a budget but want something nice, clean and simple. This hotel lacks commodities within the hotel. There is no real restaurant. The closest restaurant is in the curie Hilton. The staff is friendly.”

• The rooms are roomy but they could have used the space in a better format.
• The pool was small and the beach was sad, and they were calling the room at 5:15am.

“This is a nice hotel with potential to be much better. The pool is small with walls that block the wind. The beach is small and not very inviting. The rooms are large but are broken up into three separate rooms. It is a 3 star hotel.”

“We only stayed at this hotel one night between flights. We found it to be older, but quite clean and comfortable. I would stay there again for a night or two if needed, but the lack of a nice beach at the hotel would preclude me from spending a vacation there.”

“We were greatly surprised when we arrived at the hotel, it turned out to be one of the best places that we have stayed in over our many years of traveling, the pool and location by the ocean and the park was a great plus, we loved the feel of being on a ship, we were leaving on our seventh cruise. We just plain loved it; I loved the little sitting area and being able to look out over the ocean, thanks again for a lovely stay.”

• Lack of reasonably priced food in restaurant.

“The front desk staff was friendly and extremely helpful. On the day of check-out, they helped us to obtain our boarding passes for our flight using their computers. The restaurant is convenient, but very expensive. The continental breakfast (which is not included in the hotel price), has a nice selection. The pool is well-kept. ”

• While some renovation/restoration as been done, it still has a ways to go.

“We arrived late and stayed only one night, and it was fine for that length of time. I would not consider it a hotel where I would spend my vacation though. Staff are friendly and helpful. Building has had some renovation & restoration work done, but still needs more.”

“It is an excellent 3 star hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food in the dining room was excellent; however the a/c was set too high and created a draft which caused us to change tables. The rooms are big with large closets. The only real draw-back was that there were no windows in the sleeping room and there was no balcony which would have been really nice as we had an ocean front room.”

“Room was clean, but bathroom walls needed maintenance. Safe did not work, but no one came to repair when called. I had to leave in 15 minutes and could not wait longer. • I liked the modern tone. It gives a nice mood vibe. Staff was wonderful.
• Everything was overpriced. Buffet breakfast was disappointing. It was a nice but boring motel.

“This hotel was very nice but in my opinion, if the breakfast is going to cost more than ten dollars then it should be worth it. The continental breakfast should only cost at the maximum $8.00. There should be some sort of entertainment offered so there would be more for kids to do than watch TV. at least a pool table anyway.”

• Everything. The room was great, the staff was helpful, the food was delicious.
• I did not like that the hot tub was only accessible if you purchased a spa package. However, this was a minor annoyance.

“When first looking at the pictures of the hotel, I was not interested because it appeared too 'retro' for me. However, once there, I loved it. It is quaint how the outside is designed to look like a cruise ship. The room was spacious and comfortable. The staff was extremely helpful and the food in the Italian restaurant was divine! This was well worth the money we spent!”

“The hotel is beautifully decorated, very modern. The staff was so helpful and friendly, great customer service. The beach is tiny, but that did not bother us, seeing that Puerto Rico is full of beautiful beaches! The bed is great, rooms are also spacious and clean. Spa was nice, small, and cozy, but you must pay to use Jacuzzi unless you are getting a spa treatment. Overall, I would recommend the hotel in a heartbeat unless you want a big beach and pool with tons of people. The Normandie Hotel is not as active as some of the other hotels, which makes for a more relaxed visit to Puerto Rico.”

• No hot water, shower nozzle came off.

“The hotel was nice and is classified as a boutique hotel. However, for my morning shower I had very Luke warm water and the nozzle came off. I would have preferred staying at the Caribe Hilton next door. The Norman die was okay, but I would not stay there again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.”

“Nice modern contempt property, without the service of a big name hotel, which I expected to exceed that of a chain. The atmosphere here was conducive to young urban singles, with a nightclub that landed itself to picking up. If you are looking for a place to be left alone, then this is for you, but don't expect to eat any great meals here.”
