“This was my second stay at the Normandie, and I was disappointed in the disrepair of the room. The carpets both inside the room, and in the hallways need replacing. It is not a 3 star level hotel anymore.”

• The room had a wonderful bed and a separate office area.
• The bathroom could be a little spruced up.

“For the most part, this is a great hotel. The pool is huge and we thought, very nice. The bed is very comfortable and the room was good-sized. We did not use the restaurant or bar but they both looked nice. The check-in, check-out was swift and they were very pleasant. The doormen were especially helpful. If you would like to spend less on cabs, ask the doorman about the bus service. You need to walk one or two blocks to a bus stop but for $0.50 per person you can get to Old San Juan very easily. Would consider another stay but would probably stay at another hotel if I will be staying for a week. Would probably go to a resort destination. It has some spectacular architectural features that deserve your attention.”

• The beach was the most beautiful one in the world.

“The hotel was beautiful and the beach was one of the most beautiful beaches in Puerto Rico. Location is ok but not the best, the area is to quiet to walk at night. There was no security in the swimming pool area and either a lifesaver. Other than that we all enjoy our staying in the hotel and had a great vacation time. Thanks.”

“Hotel was clean and comfortable. It is in a good location. We visited Old San Juan and the casino down the street. We did an excursion in Farado that was an hour away and easy to drive to. Overall, the hotel met our expectations.”

“Friendly-enough staff, but this is definitely a business oriented hotel. The room was a bit cramped and the furnishings were adequate, but there were signs of use and failure to maintain such areas as broken tiles in bathroom; cracked outlets, failure to complete painting over the primer in the bathroom, and mismatched pillows.”

• The bellboy always opened the door for me each and every time I came in, even when I had no carry-on or luggage.
• The internet service; I could not access my hotmail account.

“Breathtaking ocean view and close to a convenience store and two restaurants. The bellboys were so welcoming and so ready to assist with anything you asked of them. The staff was quick to send someone to my room when I told them my blinds would not come down. They sent someone in within minutes. Definitely a pleasant experience.”

• I liked the location and its pretty architectural design.
• Stained carpets, not clean enough for an American.

“The location is good, close to the beach, and in the center of Condado. The carpets ruin the otherwise attractive ambience. The food was mediocre and overpriced.”

“The Normandy Hotel is very well in the San Juan area. Accommodations area comfortable and the food selection is appropriate. They could do a better job in the pool area. Also, the nearby public beach needs to be cleaned.”

“For the price, this hotel was fine. Art deco style, but the room was big with a flat screen TV and CD player. The hotel has some age spots in different places. The pool was quiet and nice and very clean.”

“It's an attractive small hotel but does not have a good beach area or any patio sitting area. Rooms are large and beds are comfortable. Easy access to Old San Juan. I would not rate it a 3 star but it's adequate.”

“The hotel is beautiful, the fish tanks behind the elevators are a nice touch. Our room was very big and the bathroom was clean. The water-pressure was unlike anything I have ever experienced-wow! Very friendly staff and the pool area was great.”

• The views from the easily accessed beach were unexpectedly beautiful.
• The room showed signs of water damage and possibly mold.

“The hotel is lovely to arrive at in the dark. A very loud party was going on at the main level, causing even our room on the 4th floor to be filled with sounds from it until about midnight. The views from the shoreline, just past the beach, were really great, showing us both the old San Juan side and the modern side. However, I wouldn't have felt very safe out there, even in daylight, if I weren't in a group.”

• It was next to the Hilton could sneak in there and room was big.
• Pool area unkept no chlorine room carpet filthy.

“We got there at 2 pm and were told our room would be ready at 3 pm. Went back and then told come back at 3:30 pm. They did come find us outside at the pool to tell us when our room was ready. The art on the 3rd floor had awful pictures of war with blood and grenades. This is not a family hotel. This is the worse luck we have had with your service and we may not use it again.”

• Rooms by the pool smelled musty and damp.

“Our room was by the pool which is in a separate building. We had to keep the A/C on high in order to keep the musty, damp smell at bay. The rest of the stay was fantastic! I would recommend staying in the main building.”

• We liked the huge suite and the cool art deco style of this hotel.
• The night desk clerk was never at the desk. 3 times I had to try to track her down.

“Hotel Norma die is a cool, posh, art deco place. It's 1930's design has been updated so the rooms are huge and the lobby and public areas are very nice. The kids said that they felt famous when they stayed there!”

“The hotel management and staff were wonderful and extremely accommodating. Thankfully we did not find anything that would validate the negative comments of other reviews. The hotel is older but with great character. The room we had was suite like and very large with Ocean View. It had a separate area that was a romantic seating area with large windows overlooking the water. We had a large bedroom with very comfortable bedding, and a large bath. There also was a separate office area with a desk. It was an exceptionally large and great room, far beyond our expectations. All was clean and in order with many bathroom amenities and plenty of very large towels. Service was superior. The pool area was fine but the beach area was small and lacking. All in all we were pleasantly surprised as this hotel far exceeded our expectations as the other reviews we read were thankfully not true in our case. We would definitely recommend this hotel. The location was great. Near Condado Beach area and Old San Juan, next to the Caribe Hilton. I would say if you find something that needs correcting just ask management and I am sure it will be corrected. We were very well satisfied. We will return. Thanks to Jose and his staff.”

“We arrived and found that we didn't get double beds, told us they were booked up. I called them directly months before asking for double beds and it didn't matter. Shower didn't work, handle fell off shower. Staff didn't seem to care.”

• Hotel was not 3 star, rooms were just sufficient, furniture cheap, not many amenities.

“This hotel is good for a one night stay. The rooms were clean, but very noisy. Really no amenities to speak of. Pool area was ok, beach virtually non existent. I would not spend an entire vacation here. Hotel staff was very courteous and friendly. I would stay here again but only for a one night stop over.”

• Rude staff. 1st visit before our cruise the hotel had a water pipe break and we weren't able to sleep the first night due to yelling and cleaning.

“Rude staff! Elevators sounded like they were about quit any moment. No hot water even after they were suppose to fix it. Towels were odd. sometimes we got washcloths and sometimes we didn't. Hand towels didn't exist. Our first stay at the hotel a water pipe broke and we were kept up all night due to the yelling and clean-up crew. No beach area to speak of. The Hotel was run down!”

• Unique and stylish decor, fair price, nice toiletries, great pre-cruise stay.
• The air quality was a little damp even with the AC.

“I spent one night at the Normandy in San Juan before a cruise. It met all of my needs. Staffs were very friendly. The decor was unique and stylish. It was a short cab ride from the airport and only 5-10 minutes from Old San Juan and the cruise port. The beds were comfortable. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.”

• The customer service at this hotel was horrible. The hotel is outdated and dirty.

“It was old, dirty and rundown. The customer service was horrible. We arrived at midnight and there was no room available. We had called two hours prior to arriving and they told us the room would be ready when we arrived. We had four people and requested two double beds, they said no problem. This was not available either. They sent up a roll away cot for my one son and the other had to sleep on a couch. They also had no extra pillows for the kids. They said they ran out. I would never return here or recommend this hotel to anyone.”

“I do not feel the hotel deserves the star status it currently has. It should be one - one & half star lower. The exterior of the building was crumbling on the parking lot side. The pool had broken light fixtures. The blinds in the room were extremely difficult to open or close. The elevators seemed to be broken more often than they were working.”

“The hotel had charm because it was built in 1930/s - the room size was very spacious, but the blaring, vibrating music in the atrium which was open in the center kept us awake till 1 a.m. -it was like torture, we were tired after traveling all day and just wanted to rest.”

“The staff was great, the food was pretty good, and the architecture of the building was great- but the rooms themselves were in need of upgrading. Room was strangely laid out- opened into a poorly lit office area, then over the sloping floor to the bedroom. Beds were nice and comfy and linens were clean. No closet, just a curtained off area. Had a 'sun room' with badly stained furniture but nice view. Bathroom was dirty, as was the carpet in the rooms. Walls throughout the room were cracked and those that were patched were poorly fixed.”

“There was very loud music in the atrium that kept us awake until after 1:00am both nights. The room was musty, needed plastering, had a screw sticking up from the bathroom door sill, had mismatched and sagging ceiling tile and was disappointing. We wore our shoes in the room as the carpet was old and dirty. Very disappointing other than the location which was good. It should be only a 1 or 2 star not a 3 star.”

“The Normandie Hotel exceeded my expectations for a 3-star property. The hotel staff was accommodating and went out of their way to assist in all requests. The facilities were excellent and the location was convenient to Old San Juan, Condado, Isla Verde, and the airport. I highly recommend this property!”

“An old art-deco type hotel with much character. Things were clean but well-worn and in need have upgrade. Restaurant was average/below average. Staff was excellent and went out of their way to assist in answering questions. If you want the feel of an old, historic type hotel, this is the place. Probably would not stay there again.”

• Nearby a beautiful beach and old San Juan fort.
• In between old San Juan and Condado. Had to cab everywhere.

“Hotel public areas are beautifully maintained. Security was excellent and in sight at all times. Bellman friendly and accommodating. The hotel is somewhat isolated in between old San Juan and Condado. Had to take cabs that cost between $15 and $25 every day that we wanted to go to clubs and restaurants.”

“The Normandy was reasonably clean. The restaurant and convenience shop were very expensive. There was nothing to do within walking distance. Dining options are limited. We stayed pre and post cruise. It is reasonably close to old San Juan and the cruise terminal.”

• Great Art Deco appeal. Close to Old San Juan and Condallo area for night life and shopping.
• Stained carpet and furniture in rooms. Beach area and pool boring.

“Normandie is a moderate priced hotel with great staff and a good location. The rooms are better on the upper levels. It is close to the Hilton (where you can find out about tours and rent a car and get a taxi or hang out at their pool area); it is also close to Old San Juan and Condallo. You would enjoy your stay there.”
