• Front entry being remodeled.

“Great bathroom, beautiful furnishings. Great location right across the main train station and still closes enough to walk to the center of town. Concierge recommended an excellent restaurant for dinner. It was a most pleasant experience.”

• Very helpful and friendly staff.
• The common areas were not as clean and well kept as they should be for a 5 star hotel.

“Very convenient to transportation - metro center just across the street. Rooms were not of the quality expected for the rating and price but they we not bad rooms. My stay was brief but the strongest feature for this hotel was the staff.”

• Across the street from the train station. Hotel met all expectations.
• Not within walking distance from main attractions.

“Was a little leery after reading other reviews of this hotel, but was pleasantly surprised to find a nice hotel, just across the street from the train station. Nice, large room with separate area for kids' bed. Bathroom was only part of room that was cramped. Was never bothered by outside noise even though I was on the second level, facing the train station. Area was full of skateboarders at night, but I never felt threatened or unsafe. ”

• Was once 5 star elegant but now worn, dated, unpainted.

“Upon entering the Le Meridian Gallia it is difficult not to feel the classic elegance of this historic hotel. Unfortunately, though service remains near 5 star quality, by North American standards, our room at the hotel was of 3 star quality at best. Very worn and dirty carpet, walls which were cracked and in dire need of paint, and two twin beds pushed together to make a queen, the classically architecture room showed many years of neglect. However, in comparing to other properties in which I've stayed in Milan before, and in consideration of the excellent price paid, the hotel was very satisfactory and we would stay again.”

• Prices of extras: $20 for parking per day, $20 for cocktails, etc.,

“Beautiful hotel inside and out. Excellent quality of everything, but definitely overpriced for anything available in the hotel such as meals, drinks, and parking. The rooms were amazing, but the one thing that could be better was the bed. In a five star hotel, I would want a little piece of heaven to sleep on, even in Europe.”

• Was very happy.
• Italian five star hotels are not same as US standard

“Great location, adjacent to the train station. The sound from the train was minimal, more of a floor vibration and very acceptable. A great hotel by Italian standards. While European hotels cannot compete US standards, the hotel room was incredibly spacious with an impressive bathroom. It has a great reputation in Milan, where my family lives. For the locals, this hotel is the best name in town.”

• Hotel is in a good location and for a great price.
• The Hotel is situated near the train station which is noisy.

“I would not stay at this hotel again. The trolley cars outside the hotel were extremely noisy and kept us awake most of the night.”

“The hotel is in a great location and is very nice with large rooms. Great service if you needed it. Do expect to pay allot for breakfast and dinner if you plan on staying in. Breakfast is expensive for what you eat, however, dinner choices are very good and fair priced for the place.”

• Bruno at the concierage desk was extremely helpful.
• The room was older and dimly lit. The carpets looked like they needed to be replaced.

“The hotel is rated as a 5-star hotel, but it fell short of my expectations. The lobby is grand and brightly lit, but the hallways upstairs were dim. The rooms were moderate in size, and I was disappointed that our double consisted of 2 beds pushed together. The carpets looked old and needed to be replaced. Don't touch anything in the minibar! The charges for the snacks are just outrageous! The room was adequate for our needs. I would rate this a 3-star hotel, except for the concierage. Bruno at the concierage desk was amazing! He was extremely helpful and patient with us when he explained how to get around Milan and go to Lake Como. Bravo to Bruno!”

• The minibar, in true minibar tradition, was extremely expensive.

• The location is its greatest asset. Trains, buses, taxis, all can be accessed directly in front.
• Hotel restaurant is expensive.

“If you want convenience at a decent and convenient upscale hotel. Gallia will do it for you. It is not the Taj Mahal. The rooms are clean, the staff is helpful and when it comes to the convenience of the location, it the best. Take the bus from the airport for 5 euros to central station and walk across the street to the hotel. Walk to the duomo in 20 to 30 minutes or take a cab. Walk across the street to central station for trains to Paris, Zurich, Rome.”

• Convenience to the train station and the value/quality of this beautiful luxury hotel.

“This beautiful hotel is situated near the Milan train station. In walking access, about 5 minutes. We were greeted by a very friendly doorman who took away our luggage and showed us to the reception desk. He even made it a point to say hello the next morning when we ran into him at the train station. I would have rated the performance of the staff with a ten.”

• The entire staff was very unfriendly and unhelpful.

“Having stayed at many leading hotels of the world, I was sorely disappointed! The entire staff was very unfriendly and unhelpful with a couldn't careless attitude. Also what did not help was the ankle deep water while taking a shower, the hairdryer entire inside electrical components coming out with the nozzle and then not being able to turn it off and then given a smoking room when asked for a non smoking room. This hotel has no right to be a member of the leading hotels chain.”

• This hotel was more than we ever expected. Good location with good sized room and a beautiful bathroom.
• The restaurants were a little to expensive for us.

• location opposite the rail station, great connection to the center and airport, nice ,clean rooms, very helpfull stuff

“location is just opposite the central rail station so there are 2 underground lines to the center, busses and transportation to the airport. the stuff was always very pleasent and helpfull, lobby is nice, and rooms are spacious, nicely decorated and clean. the hotel was great value for money and w would deffinately want to go back”

• Really nice bed linens and comforters and pillows; roomy rooms, nice tub and shower, plenty of space to store luggage, etc.
• Two twin beds don't equal a king.

“The hotel is centrally located to the trains and metro, and is within walking distance of the major downtown attractions. This was a welcome experience. The rooms were very nice, very clean, and we were automatically bumped up a notch along with the other couple we travelled with - the latter was a nice and welcome surprise.The Concierge proved very helpful and made several reservations. This was great. Also, the doorman gave us some great tips on local ongoings that both saved money and greatly enhanced our enjoyment of the trip. Overall it was great.”

• Excellent location -- cannot be beat. About 20 years ago, it must have been the best hotel in Milan.
• The hotel interiors need some updating. For example, our carpet had visible stains.

“ I would not pay 5-star hotel prices for this hotel. It is very convenient being locating next to the central railway station. Overall, it is more like a 4-star hotel in terms of room.”

• The room was spacious and stylish.
• Extra's like the room bar and restaurant are very pricey.

“We stayed here for three nights. The hotel has a great location; you can easily walk from the Milano CS train station (even with bags). It also sits right on top of the Metro and near several tram/bus stops. To catch a lift to the Milano airport, there is great (read: fast and cheap) express bus very close. The rooms are spacious and comfy. The marble bathroom was a delight. The staff were friendly and the concierge quite helpful. We liked this place a lot and would definitely return.”

• Service uneven at times. Ageing 5 star hotel I would rate as 4.5

“This hotel is in the 5 star class category but due it is visibly aging room appointments and sometimes uneven service should be closer to a 4 or 4.5. With that siad for the price in Milan so get an excellent location next door to the grand Central Train Station and very easy asscess to local transport (2 minutes to metro). You pay dearly for parking ($20/ day) and breakfast ($30/ person) and are expected to tip everyone for everything so the overall price of your stay will average out to an additional $30-$50/ day if you use all the hotel ammenities.”

• Coolest service and building character we've ever enjoyed.
• Driving directions and maps were tough, but this was consistent throughout Italy for us, not just specific to this place.

“Great service, amazing facility, very generous and accommodating staff. Spoke English extremely well. Pricing was consistent with what was expected from a 5-Star and never unreasonable, including only 20Euro for overnight parking at the hotel -awesome.”

“Hotel did not meet all expectations because instead of getting a full double bed with a single mattress we were given a bed with two twin mattresses. When we called the front desk to inquire about another room, no one answered the phone. We were also in a room where the window was not properly sealed and allowed the traffic noise from the street to be heard in the room. The hotel itself was beautiful, we just wish we had a room with an actual bed and that was quiet.”

“Overall this hotel meets my expectation. The only problem I'd like to mention here is that the room I stayed in is on the 4th floor facing the street. I was surprised it was quite noisy when cars/trams passing by at night and in the morning. There is definitely an acoustical issue with the windows.”

“Elegant hotel, well located next to the main railway station. Check in staff are very quick and efficient. Rooms generally well appointed as you would expect from a hotel of this standard. Only complaint: As a business traveler, the rooms could do with either a trouser press or iron/ironing board.”
