• Parking a major problem and shouldn't have had to pay - making the overall price hefty.

• Clean. Friendly, helpful staff. Central location - market, restaurants, attractions. Pool.
• Parking was difficult to get.

“For such a basic 3.5*-4* hotel, I can't think of any problem areas. Good pool/spa. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Amenities were basic but what there is looks clean and stylish. Excellent location 5 mins walk to markets, restaurants and attractions. Basic hotel quality done very well.”

• The staff was very friendly. The hotel was well decorated and very clean. There was beautiful flowers outside.
• Nothing !

“We were traveling with our two daughters (2 and 6). We found this hotel very beautiful, comfortable and recommended it. This stylish hotel has everything for the business travelers and the families feel very welcome too ! Our daughters even received a stuffed animal at our arrival. We also had fun in the pool.”

• Modern design in hotel rooms, efficient use of small space.
• Hot tub was luke-warm. Sound proofing between rooms could be better.

“Great location only a few blocks from parliament hill, Rideau canal and Byward district (restaurants/shops). Small hotel rooms with a modern design and efficient use of limited space. Very attractive courtyard on the fifth floor, great to sit down and have a drink at. Restaurant has an affordable and high quality breakfast buffet. Staff was knowledgeable, polite, friendly. Highly recommended for someone who wants to see the sights in Ottawa but does not have a vehicle.”

• The view of our hotel room was facing a construction site.

• Staff was somewhat belligerent, rude; view faced a gravel roof and a wall.

• Lifts not working! Temporary problem so don't let this put you off!

• Elevators not working, small rooms, room illumination, noisy (inside, not from street).

“Good hotel, excellent location, small rooms and illumination is nice but not enough, the hotel didn't work at the time we were there and it was a pain going thru the stairs (staff elevator was packed).”

• The rooms were large and modern at a great price.
• The hotel staff were not knowledgeable and had no customer service orientation.

“The location of the hotel is ideal being within walking distance to all major Ottawa attractions. The room we stayed in was large with both a bedroom and sitting area. I particularly appreciate the modern-contemporary decor; something I would not normally expect from a family hotel. I was very disappointed with the level of service we received from the hotel staff. They were not knowledgeable of such basics as how to access the parking garage attached to the hotel from the hotel. We requested a wake up call but did not receive one. Upon conferring this to the desk clerk upon checkout the response received was "Oh. That's not good." I would have expected some kind of apology.”

• Rooms were clean and bathroom was spacious and of quality.
• The room itself was rather cramped for the star level.

“Overall, the hotel was well situated and convenient if you looking to be near the various attractions of the city. The room was clean and well maintained however the room itself was somewhat cramped for 2 people. Bathroom was the highlight of the room with quality and cleanliness appreciated.”

“As all Novotels, this one offers all modern amenities. It's spacious and clean and located right in front of the Parliament Buildings and the Chateau Laurier, and a block from the Rideau Shopping Centre and Ottawa's famous Bayward market. Highly recommended nad great prices.”

• It was very conveniently located.
• Not all of the desk staff were friendly, though some were.

“The hotel is well-located for tourist activities in Ottawa. We managed to walk or bike to things we wanted to see. On the whole it was a good hotel. Some of the staff were friendlier and more helpful than others. Also, the parking garage was a bit tight. I would recommend this hotel if you can get it for a good rate.”

“This great business hotel, set just off the Rideau Centre and a block from the Byward Market, offers clean, cheerful rooms with all of the expected amenities (and a few surprises, such as WebTV). Hotel staff is a little aloof, but nevertheless professional.”

• Location, location, location
• Parking is difficult but typical for a downtown hotel. Rooms are smaller than motels but that is what you would expect. The pool was so /so.

“If you are looking for a convenient location in Downtown Ottawa, the Novotel is worth the look. Across from the Rideau Mall and a block from Byward Market you have all sorts of possibilities for shopping and eating. You are within walking distance of Parliament Hill and the museums.”

• Nice downtown location, clean, comfortable rooms.
• Impersonal service. Coffee/breakfast counter closed.

“This hotel is located close to Rideau St. in the heart of Ottawa and the major attractions surrounding the Parliament complex. It is within walking distance to most of the major places to visit in Ottawa. Rooms are contemporary and have modern furnishings. Parking is available for extra in the basement garage.The staff is professional but cold. When I called to tell them I wanted two rooms with double beds in both, I was told that their reservation system was down. When I called later, they said the hotel was full to capacity and they would not be able to provide me with the double beds. Finally, when we checked in we got the double beds without any problems. I seriously doubt the hotel was full.”

• Location is excellent, rooms are decorated in a contemporary style. Mini fridge is a nice touch.
• Pool is a long and complicated walk from the rooms.

“Great location, clean and friendly. Most things written in both English and French. The pool is at the end of a maze-like walk. It is well signed however, but shared between 2 hotels and thus very busy.”

“I had problems with the electronic card key, the shower tub didn't drain, the shower head gave a weak stream of water, the TV remote needed a new battery, the mattress was old and uncomfortable, and there was a shortage of parking spots in the underground garage.”

• wireless access in lobby worked well
• indoor access from the garage to the lobby not well marked

“Located a short walk from Parliament hill, the Ottawa Novotel is convenient and welcoming to out of town travellers. Underground parking is available in the same block. This patron found the staff to be friendly, thorough and reasonably efficient. Although I did not visit the lobby level dining area, a brief glance around the facilities showed them to be of high quality and well designed, similar to other Novotel properties I have visited. ”

• It's location was fantastic - within very easy walking distance to the Parliament buildings and the Byward Market area with all its restaurants

“This property was a terrific value, based on location and price. The amenities were fantastic, the kids loved the pool and the mall across the street, and I was less than 3 blocks from my meeting. I look forward to staying there in the future.”
