“You can tell this was once a really nice hotel. The grounds were immaculate and very festive with a Christmas tree in the main lobby and lights on the palm trees in the parking lot. The room was spacious with a neat spa-like shower, but it was just so old and outdated, I had to give it a lower rating than I normally would have. The bed was extremely large but rather uncomfortable. There were many stains on the light carpet. The fixtures in the bathroom were black from water damage. We were traveling with a 3-year old and 7-month old crawling infant, so cleanliness is extremely important to us. We had to use flip-flops in the shower since the grout was rather questionable. Additionally, the main casual restaurant was closed for lunch and dinner which was an inconvenience. You get what you pay for with the price, but I definitely would not have rated this a 3-star hotel which is what I was expecting based on my selection.” Dec 17, 2008 by
Doreen from Wasilla,AK
“The hotel was secluded and grounds well lay out. The rooms were spacious and set up comfortably. The furnishing was a bit dated but comfortable enough. The restaurant was pricy so we didn't eat there. The pool and spa services were great - more than expected. The housekeeping was fine but the rooms need a detailed cleaning and a bit freshening up.” Dec 7, 2008 by
Deborah from Joliet,MT
“Overall we enjoy our stay at Diamond Hawaii Resort. I would stay there again. The grounds were well taken care of and a lovely view of the ocean. The only thing I disliked was our room could have been cleanlier. Carpet was very solid, and kitchenette area (walls, baseboard)needed some heavy cleaning. Staff was very friendly! Breakfast was delicious.” Nov 30, 2008 by
Cheryl from Woodside,NY
“Choose Diamond Resort for their wonderful spa, pool, and kiddie pool which is included in your stay. The rooms are very large and clean making it a good choice for families.” Oct 28, 2008 by

“I have been to Maui many times for business and pleasure, and was amazed to find this little jewel! The grounds are beautiful, and there is a stream/waterfall that runs through the property. We heard deer at night, and saw many colorful birds enjoying the lake in front of our suite. The view from the lobby is great for sunsets and whale watching. If you are looking for value, cleanliness, and quiet sounds of nature, you will appreciate this resort and spa.

“It was great to come in from a flight and be treated to a complimentary health spa. Very relaxing and wonderful. This is also a very quiet and peaceful hotel.” Oct 21, 2008 by

“The staff was excellent and very helpful.” Oct 12, 2008 by

“The hotel was really quite nice. They had a nice pool area ant the room was very large and clean. In the room, you have a private balcony, huge shower and tub as well as a kitchen with stove complete. A very nice hotel and nice stay. I would definitely recommend it.” Oct 9, 2008 by

“If back to nature describes you this is your hotel. Although tired rooms and remote location make this a poor choice for anyone wanting more than to sit and look at the ocean. No beach or beach access. Situated in a residental neighborhood far from town, shops, restaruants etc. The hotel itself only serves breakfast at a preminum price. Two Stars at best.” Feb 13, 2008 by
Dina from Cleveland Heights, OH
“Great place if you want quiet, some what isolated setting. You can sit on the balcony of your own villa and watch the whales or listen to birds. Parking is complementary, good service.” Dec 8, 2007 by
Sharon from Saint Louis, MO
“Owner is selling the hotel; it is reflected in the overall experience. You expect much more from a resort. In general, location is good; room is OK, but nothing out of the ordinary.” Nov 15, 2007 by
Tricia from Kalaheo, HI
“The decor was totally out of date, the rug was dirty/stained, and the drawers had bug droppings in it. The staff was nice, and the hotel did not seem very crowded.” Nov 13, 2007 by
Amelia from Danvers, MA
“Partial ocean view or better is the only way to make it worth it here. Must drive to beach & shops. Beautiful resort grounds; friendly staff. Right near other resorts where you would pay twice as much. Outdoor pool is nothing fancy, and you feel isolated. But the resort is quiet and peaceful (unless you happen to have noisy neighbors). All rooms are suites, with balcony.” Nov 12, 2007 by
Joanne from Elk Grove, CA
“Beautiful location on quiet south shore of island. Beautifully maintained, expansive, bucolic grounds. Condo style suite w/minimal amenities. Poorly maintained accommodations, desperate need of update. Asian style resort caters to Asian travelers, Asian style spa facility. Excellent restaurant, terse service.” Oct 26, 2007 by
Amber from Katy, TX
“I loved the area Wailea and thought this hotel was a great price for the area. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to stay in a peaceful setting away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist towns.” Oct 10, 2007 by
Dana from Kamuela, HI
“Excellent location, large clean rooms, friendly and helpful staff, incredible price for the location too. Will definitely stay again.” Sep 23, 2007 by
Cheng from Las Vegas, NV
“Overall, the stay with this hotel was satisfied, except for the issues mentioned above. The views were spectacular. Very suitable for family vacation. I am likely to rebook this hotel next time when having a family vacation.” Sep 10, 2007 by
Bruce from Seattle, WA
“Not a business hotel. It is owned by and designed for the Japanese market.” Sep 6, 2007 by
Jill from Discovery Bay, CA
“The location is nice if you are not concerned with being in walking distance to the beach. This hotel is pretty old and more basic - good size rooms for family. The kitchenette did not have the necessary things needed to cook, and although I could have requested them from the front desk, it seemed like a hassle. The price seemed too high for what was offered.” Sep 4, 2007 by
Prakash from San Francisco, CA
“The rooms at the Diamond Resort are really large and spacious, with a huge bed and large shower/tub. There's a kitchen with a range and refrigerator. However, if you're looking for a lively environment with good restaurants and nightlife, this isn't the place.” Aug 29, 2007 by
Jeff from Florence, NJ
“Nice Size rooms. It was bigger than most standard hotel rooms. It felt roomy and comfortable. It was quiet and not feels like other major resorts which tend to be busy and crowded.” Aug 22, 2007 by
Darryl Y. from San Francisco, CA
“Great place to stay. We really enjoyed it. It was extremely peaceful and picturesque. The staff was excellent.” Aug 20, 2007 by
Naiwon from Vacaville, CA
“I would highly recommend it to budget conscious traveler. You need a car to get around, although staff was prompt in giving you ride to wailed shops. Good location with large rooms.” Jul 30, 2007 by
Howard from Chicago, IL
“Exceptional beauty and room accommodation for the price. Yes, there are better hotels right on beach (for twice price), but general location outstanding, landscaping of grounds, waterfalls, fish ponds, etc. Room was enormous, with kitchenette. Bed could sleep 5. Somewhat dated decor. Could be very useful for occasional break from high Maui restaurant prices. Japanese-centric staff and hotel customs, but incredibly gracious and a wonderful experience.” Jul 28, 2007 by
Sheri from Dallas, TX
“This hotel is one of the furthest from the water, but they do provide shuttles at to the beaches for your convenience. The rooms are clean and spacious, including a kitchen. A word of caution, avoid the overpriced, extremely low quality Japanese restaurant.” Jul 23, 2007 by
David from Torrance, CA
“Every room has some ocean view. The staff was very friendly.” Jul 16, 2007 by
Kevin from St Petersburg, FL
“Located in a resort park on a secluded hillside. The Diamond Resort is a private get-a-away from the hustle and bustle of Maui. Large, apartment style rooms with a kitchen, living room, master bedroom, and 3-room bathroom. Four unit buildings look on to lush gardens and ocean in background. Very private, seldom saw anyone else even though resort is quite busy. Perfect Hawaiian experience.” Jul 10, 2007 by
Ivy from San Francisco, CA
“The room we received was a far cry from 4-star in terms of quality and cleanliness of room. To add insult to injury, my fiancée was stung by a 10-inch long centipede in bed in the middle of the night, and I woke up to the insect crawling by my head. Needless to say, it became very difficult to get comfortable falling asleep again in that room. Furthermore, the hotel made an unauthorized charge on my credit card. When I called the hotel to inquire about it, the accounting department said that there was some mistake by which all hotel guests were charged an amount instead of just authorizing the charge when they checked in. Overall, I was very disappointed with the hotel's professionalism.” Jun 30, 2007 by
Allen from Monterey Park, CA
“We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights. Overall we were satisfied with the hotel. It was definitely a more cozy and secluded hotel, although it had an older Japanese style. What we were not satisfied with was the price we paid for the hotel relative to the class it was given.” Jun 26, 2007 by
Janet from Oroville, CA
“It was wonderful and we would stay there again for the same price.” Jun 13, 2007 by
Bonnie from Charlevoix, MI
“This hotel is located in a beautiful area of Maui. The hotel has a Japanese flavor. It is about 2 miles from the beach. The rooms are in separate buildings with four rooms in each building. The hotel is on a hill with beautiful views of the ocean. The grounds are beautiful. It has a small pool but it was not busy. The rates for the spa are on the high end so we didn't use the service. Our room was very large. Nice living area and very large bedroom. The bed was two double beds pushed together so it was massive. The sheets were sewn together to fit the bed. The linens were not high quality. The room didn't sparkle. It was a little worn. The carpet was very dirty. The bathroom was strange. Too dark to put on makeup, the shower was made for a very short person and the bathtub and shower were in an enclosed space. It seemed very foreign. The kitchen area had a stove top, refrigerator, and was well equipped. Sound was an issue. We were awake early with the people above using the toilet and shower. The staff was very friendly. They have a library with a computer to use. We did not eat at the hotel but heard the food is delicious. The hotel was very quiet for a weekend. I would probably not stay in this hotel again.” May 9, 2007 by
Dennis from Sandy, UT
“This is not a 4 Star Hotel! This is a privately owned Japanese "Club" that is passed off as a hotel. ” Feb 21, 2007 by

“OK if you like poor service.” Aug 8, 2006 by
Robin from Neah Bay, WA
“This hotel offered a unique experience for us on our honeymoon. The Japanese-style rooms, grounds and spa were just beautiful. The location was very nice, although it was a drive to get to affordable restaurants and beaches. The rooms were very comfortable and there are only 4 rooms to each building which made it very private and quiet. We had a very nice time here!” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jul 19, 2006 by

“Generally, very nice, but we were disappointed to learn after the fact that it was not located on the beach. In fact, it was even too far to walk to the beach. Upon check-out, we were a little late getting back from lunch, and the woman at the front desk said if we hurry, we would not be charged extra for late check-out. However, 30 minutes later when we departed, the manager charged us $150 for late check-out, which totally ruined our otherwise positive experience at Diamond. As a very frequent traveler, this type of customer service is unacceptable, and I would never recommend this hotel to anyone ever!” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Jul 4, 2006 by

“I liked the hotel's location even though it wasn't on the beach. I don't think that it should qualify as a 4 star though. It is really outdated and doesn't have a lot of the amenities and quality I have previously experienced in 4 star level. Nice and quiet though.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jul 4, 2006 by

“Wonderful location. Great place for an extended visit w/kitchenette. Beautiful views of Molokini, West Maui and neighboring islands. Well kept grounds. Large grounds yet very quiet. Would stay again.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jun 19, 2006 by

“This hotel is at a great location with beautiful views. It was nice to be in serene surrounds unlike the hotels right in front of us. They had a shuttle to take you to the beach and a small kitchen in each hotel room. Saved lots of money. The only caution is that the grounds are extensive and it was difficult on some days to walk up the steep hill back to the car. the parking lot was far from the rooms. but, we did not have to pay for daily parking another bonus. would stay here again.” Jun 12, 2006 by
Donna from Los Altos, CA
“The room accommodations were four star but nothing else. Although it's only a five minute drive to the beach, anyone going to Maui wants to be ON THE BEACH or at least across from the beach. NO spirit of Hawaii at this resort. Pool is lack luster. We saw very few people. This hotel is totally off the map. It isn't even in the phone book.” Jun 2, 2006 by
Peter from Maryville, TN
“Very nice hotel away from the gigantic hotel plexus on the beaches. Each unit faces the ocean and is very quiet. 4 units in each condo like unit. Nice amenities. SPA etc.” May 16, 2006 by
Kerry from Denver, CO
“I was surprised by how much I liked it since you don't hear as much about it as some of the other resorts in Wailea. I felt so relaxed there. The rooms were very spacious, and I liked how there were several small buildings rather than one monstrous one. The Japanese landscaping was very nice, staff were very helpful and pleasant, and the views of the ocean were beautiful from the top of the hill. I loved the Japanese restaurant, too. It wasn't right on the beach, but this was actually an advantage b/c it made it quieter and more peaceful/less touristy feeling, and the views were better. I wished I could stay longer.” May 8, 2006 by
Michael from Portland, OR
“Great location off the beach in Maui, great place for a small child.” May 4, 2006 by
T from Park City, UT
“This is not a four star hotel. We spent as little time in the room as possible. The bed is very uncomfortable (two full size beds pushed together). Carpets very dirty- Small dirty kitchen with no utensils. The kitchen doesn't even have a microwave. If you are staying at this hotel hopefully it is not for your entire trip!” May 2, 2006 by
Lisa from Carlsbad, CA
“This is a 3 star hotel. Caters to the Japanese. The beds are not comfortable, but the views are nice. The beach is more than a couple of miles away.” May 2, 2006 by
Lynn from Mahwah, NJ
“Beautiful hotel with a Ritz Carlton feel. The spa was quite unusual with separate area's for the men and women. Unfortunately, clothing was not an option in any of the spa area's so I preferred to pass. Hotel was quite far from the ocean but the grounds transported you to a private oasis. Bed was a bit hard but the heated seat in the bathroom balanced things out. I would definitely return.” May 1, 2006 by
Ron from Carlsbad, CA
“I enjoyed this hotel, my wife enjoyed it too. We stayed a few nights at another condo resort (Outrigger), ugh, and it did not even come close to this hotel. The spa area didn't cost extra, however, it is in the Japanese onsen style. Very relaxing and regenerating, especially after snorkeling, swimming or hiking. The whole area is clean and well kept. We had a stream and waterfall just outside our back balcony. It sits on a hill and is a bit of a walk to the beach. The front desk is quick to see to your needs, didn't have to ever wait much until I was attended to.” Apr 27, 2006 by
Scott from San Diego, CA
“Large rooms with good views even for the garden suites. Kitchenettes had no microwaves and you had to request cookware in order to use the stove. Appears to be a Japanese timeshare.” Mar 23, 2006 by
Shani from Silver Spring, MD
“This hotel was very nice and the staff was very friendly. The rooms were big and the bed was huge. They have an interesting toilet that has a warm seat and other cleaning sprays. Overall it was an enjoyable stay, although I did not use the complimentary spa services.”
