• The room renovations were really nice.
• The exterior of the hotel needs to be renovated and updated also - the bar and restaurant were not open.

“The newly renovated rooms were really nice. The bathrooms were gorgeous and the beds were comfortable. The views were amazing. I was a little disappointed about not having a bar or restaurant. Besides that I would stay again.”

• Newly reconstructed rooms. New furniture.
• Construction noise. Outside hotel appearance could use work.

“Ocean view was great. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Price was awesome for the view and room we got. When they finish construction on the place, it'll be a great place to stay and Id go back.”

• The pavilion is pretty.
• The restroom door can not be shut and locked.

• Location was good.
• I hated this hotel! It was disgustingly dirty and unsanitary!

“I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There was hair and stains all over the bed, the sheets, and the carpet and chair and dead bugs in the bathroom. The room we stayed in had chemicals sprayed all over the room, and in the middle of the night (3 am) I started having early contractions (Im pregnant), and ended up in the emergency room for 5 hours the next day! The manager refused to give us a new room, until I told him about the contractions at 3 am! Talk about a horrible vacation all because of a hotel!”

• The views.
• It's under construction. Had to pay more to upgrade my room.

“This hotel is under renovations. Not all rooms are renovated yet. Make sure to ask for a renovated room. The other rooms are not nice like the new ones.”

• Very surprised! Location a premium plus.
• The motel had very old furniture.

“Again, I was very pleasantly surprised. We had two rooms, which were very clean but had old, old furniture. One room had old damaged carpeting while the other did not. Very comfortable though. It was located at a premium location. The view from the hotel room was beautiful. Our rooms look right out onto the ocean.”

• The view is the only thing going for this hotel. This hotel makes motel 8 a five star.
• Everything. The room was terrible with mold on the ceiling and water dripping. Gross.

“I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. If every hotel was sold out you should pitch a tent or sleep in your car. And we ate breakfast there which was nothing to get excited about as what they call a buffet is nothing more then an expensive continental breakfast.”

• Hotel was filthy.

“Certain floors were under construction but the entire hotel was filthy. Chairs and carpet were badly soiled in our room. We asked to be moved and were "upgraded" to a room that was equally filthy.”

• Undergoing renovation, old furnishings.

“The Naniloa is an older hotel in an excellent location on Hilo bay. It is currently undergoing extensive renovation. The rooms are not in the best of shape, but the views can be great.”

• The scenery will take your breath away!
• The only 2 chairs in the room were soiled with stains, did not use them.

“Overall the hotel was just right for the price & location. Construction was going on which did not matter. We loved the view and location!”

• The staff was friendly and helpful.
• Rundown, rooms smelled, under remodel.

“Currently the Naniloa volcanoes resort is under remodel. Once they repaint, re-carpet and retile the "resort", it will still only be a 2 star hotel. Until the remodel is complete, do not bother staying at this hotel. Currently less than 1 star hotel.”

• Views.
• Renovating. Noisy! Workers and dirty buckets, etc. sharing old dirty elevators.

“Major renovations being done. Some renovations are worse than the original e.g. marble floors replacing carpets, so now super noisy. Unbelievably noisy. Beyond belief and after renovations will be finished, will be noisy like sharing rooms with next neighboring rooms. Toilets incredibly noisy. All marble and no sound buffers. Noisy. Efforts to renovate on the cheap. This hotel will go out of business soon because everyone will hate it.”

• Did not like the hotel at all.
• Beds were not easy to sleep in; carpets were dirty ;nor was there any hair dryer in the rooms.
