“Hotel was standard, nothing deserving a 4* rating. Staff was friendly but hotel was standard.” Feb 18, 2010 by
Brenda from Kent,WA
“The beach is very beautiful and private. The pool staff was very attentive and friendly.” Feb 4, 2010 by
Tamara from Gig Harbor,WA
“ The hotel was dirty and outdated. The pool was a joke - a small circle for all the guests to use. The hot tubs even worse - elevated fiberglass tubs behind lattice screens. ” Jan 23, 2010 by
Bruce from Chatsworth,CA
“
The hotel has not lost a step since it changed owners. It is still one of our favorites on Maui. The room was clean, quiet and had a beautiful views.

“Oh the poor Makena. Very lonely at this end of Wailea. The best thing to do with this hotel is to totally recreate the entire hotel. Architecturally, it's not worth saving. There are no bones to it. The grounds are pretty. But everything in Wailea is over-manicured. The Makena should take full advantage of their location and make the property a luxury tented-camp, like the upscale properties in Africa. Then Maui could boast something original and leave less of a carbon foot-print while getting back some its soul - which is clearly missing these days. The Makena is so average and so outdated. It'll never be a contender unless it changes its ways. It does not have to be a tacky, nouveau riche, Garrish Grand Wailea either.” Sep 14, 2009 by
Sue from Arvada,CO
“Maui Prince is a diamond ready to be polished. The location is superb, lush grounds, big rooms, great views but I am assuming that they are in financial challenges as their services were minimal and the room furnishings were tired. Once new management takes over this will be by far the best resort south Maui has to offer.” Aug 31, 2009 by
from San Mateo,CA
“For the price we got it on Priceline we really have no complaints. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. Once some remodeling in the rooms and bathrooms is done the hotel would be perfect. The location and the beach access are ideal.” Aug 28, 2009 by
Jeffrey from San Diego,CA
“Great price for quality hotel and an excellent location with beautiful grounds.” Aug 1, 2009 by
Patricia from Stone Mountain,GA
“We had a wonderful time and would be back. Even after we had checked into another hotel we found our sleves back @ Maui Prince for dinner and sunset views. We will return.” Jun 27, 2009 by
Brent from Nokomis,FL
“For the location, quality, and beauty - I can't image another hotel providing more value. We were in the poshest area of Maui and paid a quite reasonable price per night through Priceline. The breakfast was fantastic, the pool was calm, the resort was on a beach that had to be among the nicest in Maui, it was comfortably remote within the island that takes no more than 20 minutes to get most places. The room had an ocean front view, as do all rooms at the Maui Prince and the bed was among the best I've every slept on.” Jun 27, 2009 by
Anne from Kailua,HI
“The hotel is a lovely resort with easy access to one of the best beaches on Maui. Staff was consistently friendly and helpful which I count as one of the most important aspects of any hotel stay I have. The restaurant which served us breakfast was located by a beautiful pond and we sat on the lanai overlooking it. This could not have been a better experience for a perfect way to start our vacation day.” Jun 2, 2009 by
Ryan from Norfolk,VA
“It is a wonderful place to stay. The location of the hotel is the best I have ever seen. It is a garden on the beach side: peaceful, beautiful and romantic. The room is spacious: bathroom is separated from the restroom; the balcony is big enough to accommodate a dinning set. From the balcony, you can look out to the beautiful Makena Beach. I wish I could spend more days there.” May 21, 2009 by
Kay from Royal Oak,MI
“A nice location set away from hustle and bustle, excellent staff in all areas. Very nice room with vintage Hawaii feel and nice balcony. I had an ocean view room and loved it. Also could watch the lawn party. I did not eat here (the food was expensive) so plan accordingly to eat elsewhere 20-30 minutes to save money.” May 20, 2009 by
Don from Santa Rosa,CA
“A wonderful hotel, old style Hawaiian. Unique in that it is at the end of the road. The beach adjacent to the hotel is one of the best in the islands but the hotel is located comfortably set back. While we were there, the occupancy was low but the other traveler's we encountered were a delight to spend time with. The staff was outstanding, happy to provide us with all of our needs.” Apr 24, 2009 by
Tracy from Fairbanks,AK
“The hotel was quiet, the majority of the staff was helpful, polite and attentive. It is a little out of the way and the beach is worth it.” Mar 28, 2009 by
Emilee from Kuna,ID
“We loved this place! We only got to stay for one night of our trip and wish we could have stayed more! The rooms were very clean. Tons of extras are offered. Wonderful beach. We would love to stay again!” Mar 22, 2009 by
Jane from Fairfax Station,VA
“The Maui Prince Hotel is a wonderful place to stay. The accommodations are comfortable, the grounds and beach are beautiful, and the staff are warm and friendly. It is located in Makena, a couple of miles south of the main resort area in Wailea. If you don't mind driving the extra few miles to get to restaurants, shopping, etc, then it's a nice, quiet place to stay on Maui.” Feb 17, 2009 by
Sarah from Seattle,WA
“Great location, friendly and helpful staff, well kept and very clean. Food wasn't great, but lots of options nearby.” Dec 22, 2008 by
Angela from Arcadia,CA
“This is not a resort level hotel. It's very dated, the location is not convenient.” Oct 11, 2008 by
Kellie
“I think it should go down a star rating from where its at because of the comparison with the other resorts in the area. The rooms were beautiful, but the lobby needs updating badly. The staff was amazingly nice and giving, and the beach is beautiful. The pool is small but quiet, which was nice.” Sep 10, 2008 by
Malani from Haiku, HI
“Beautiful location, awesome lobby and great customer service. The pools could use an update. The room and the view from the room was excellent. The bed was super comfortable, which says a lot.” Sep 8, 2008 by
Tiffani from Midvale, UT
“Great place to stay! Great private location away from everything - short driver to local towns for food and shopping. Extremely quiet and relaxing. Best relaxing vacation we have been on ever! If you are looking for quiet and relaxing don't look anywhere else. This hotel is it!” Sep 3, 2008 by
Mike from San Jose, CA
“If you want privacy and a romantic get away this is the place. The beach is the best on the island. Hotel staff is friendly and the place is overall amazing and beautiful.” Aug 20, 2008 by
Adam from Columbus, OH
“The rooms were much nicer than we had expected. The hotel grounds are beautiful. The beach is right there and the pool was nice. Not huge but it served us nicely. The food was very expensive. It was nice to have the fridge and safe in our room they came in handy. The staff was very nice. The hotel is next to Makena Big Beach which is awesome. I think the hotel beach might be better. We went out on a private boat to snorkel and they brought us back off the shore by the hotel to dive and look at turtles. I ended up just swimming out to look at them the rest of the week.” Jul 16, 2008 by
Jeff from Redwood City, CA
“Very adequate room that was clean. Common areas (particularly grounds) of the hotel were well kept. Beach was excellent, and use of beach chairs was free. Free parking also appreciated. Pool area is barely adequate. Hotel feels somewhat dated, but is still attractive. Overall very good experience.” Jul 11, 2008 by
Alec from Aberdeen, WA
“Is stay the Maui Prince was a wonderful time. We had a great service and fantastic view. For the price in Maui is a great value and well worth the trip to Makena.” Jun 28, 2008 by
Stephanie from Lincoln, RI
“Beautiful hotel in remote Makena. Rooms were much better than expected, seemed like our room had recently been renovated. We had a very nice lanai that looked out over the area where they held the luau and also had a partial ocean view. Brunch was awesome. Beach was lovely. Very quiet resort. If you are looking for romance, peace and quiet this is the place. If you are looking for partying and activity you might want to go a little north to Wailea.” Jun 8, 2008 by
Jessie from Atlanta, GA
“Wonderful experience for after our wedding on the beach. We got married for free at poolenalena beach and this is just down the street. No children running around, awesome! You could hike the cinder cone next-door or go snorkeling off the beach and see tons of fish! Great location! Free valet and did I mention I never saw one child to ruin my honeymoon! (A more family experience would be the Grand Wailea down the road).” May 8, 2008 by
Marla from Kailua Kona, HI
“Staff was extremely friendly/helpful. Clean room. We were only there for a short while so did not have a chance to really experience the hotel.” Apr 27, 2008 by
Dave from Las Vegas, NV
“I agree with others that this is a remote and quiet setting, but getting around the island is not a serious problem as Maui is not all that big anyway. It is close to the tony Wailea shops and restaurants, and the hotel has a shuttle to those places. I really got sick of the gratuity game. On the balance this hotel had more positive qualities than negative. I would consider staying there again AND BRINGING MY OWN LINENS!” Apr 22, 2008 by
Jeani from San Diego, CA
“I would consider returning to this property for all my future trips to Maui.” Apr 2, 2008 by
Janel L. from Sacramento, CA
“The on location beach is great, but the pool is small. Restaurants on site are wonderful, but very pricey.” Apr 1, 2008 by
Diana from Granbury, TX
“Has the real flavor of what Hawaii should be like. The lobby, the grounds were what I had always imagined Hawaii would be.” Mar 27, 2008 by
Janeen from Mesa, AZ
“The gardens were beautiful. The beach setting was phenomenal with great snorkeling. The rooms were large and clean but could use some updating. We loved the spacious patios. We loved the beautiful beach. The Jacuzzis are portable type and are very lousy. This could be improved.” Mar 24, 2008 by
Dan from Fishers, IN
“Beautiful property and location. Clean rooms, mature landscaping, and nice beach. Would compete with Grand Wailea, Fairmont and Kea Lani with room makeover but than prices would compete also. If I'm going to pay the prices they charge at Maui Prince, I would rather fork over the extra $100 to have the nicer room and amenities.” Mar 10, 2008 by
Allen from Plymouth, MI
“Retro hotel reminiscent of the 60's era. Has not been updated since. Pool is a 30 ft circle -we actually thought this was the kids pools and asked where the adult pool was. Beach was nice, but snorkeling was poor as there were no fish to be seen. Room was small but clean. Nice balcony with partial view of the ocean. Bathroom was partitioned and small with a single sink. The grounds were nice - putting course, croquet course, badminton/volleyball, etc. However, all were poorly maintained - croquet was uneven, golf putting course was lacking grass, etc. all in all - it is in need of investment and can not be considered a high quality hotel - wasn't even worth the money we paid.” Mar 6, 2008 by
Tracey from Calgary, AB CA
“Overall a very nice place to stay, but it would be a four star rather than a resort, especially compared to others in that area.” Mar 1, 2008 by
Edward from Glendale, AZ
“No frills. Hotel expensive for the quality you get .Rooms are old and musty smelling. Bugs are everywhere.” Feb 18, 2008 by
Mayra from San Diego, CA
“The hotel is in a very nice area. The pool is very small but since the beach is a few more steps away it wasnt much of a problem. The rooms are outdated but comfortable. Not at all the luxurious room youd expect with a "resort" title. The garden inside the hotel was beautiful & the breakfast at the cafe was surprisingly good. Overall it is a nice hotel, but if youre looking for luxury keep moving.” Feb 10, 2008 by
Karen from Medford, OR
“The resort and grounds were beautiful, the rooms needed to be updated 10 years ago, much worn look. The staff was great; just wish the resort had everything going for it as far as the rooms.” Feb 10, 2008 by
Amy from Crossroads, TX
“The rooms of the hotel were very spacious, but very outdated and did not feel clean. The gym area was no bigger than a walk in closet and the equipment was very outdated. We did feel that the views and beach were wonderful as well as the location of the hotel. We only visited one restaurant in the hotel and based on a similar style restaurant in a different Hawaiian hotel the selection of food was minimal but the costs were the same. We felt it was way over priced for the choices you were given. Although the atmosphere and food around the restaurant were amazing.” Feb 10, 2008 by
Bernadette from North Vancouver, BC CA
“The Maui Prince is a neglected throwback. This hotel must have been a gem in its Era; unfortunately, it hasn't seen a lick of new paint or new furniture since the 70s. The service and employees were wonderful, however the rooms were pretty outdated and pool area was absolutely terrible. They have two tiny round pools with chipped paint and the two hot tubs were tiny residential style. The only saving grace was that the hotel was located on probably the best beach in Maui. It could be wonderful after a major reno.” Feb 7, 2008 by
Joe from San Anselmo, CA
“Its a very average outdated hotel. Good location but I'm glad I didn't stay there more than 2 days.” Jan 29, 2008 by
Justine from Trabuco Canyon, CA
“Beautiful hotel, nice staff, lovely rooms and quiet.” Jan 26, 2008 by
Shannon from North Richland Hills, TX
“One of the nicer resorts of Wailea. Unfortunately, we were only there for one night. The breakfast buffet was excellent, and I would recommend this hotel to others.” Jan 25, 2008 by
Sheila from Saanichton, BC CA
“Was beautiful. The ocean was awesome and the pool was really nice too. No complaints except I wished our room would have had a better view of the ocean. Other than that, it was perfect. The gardens and decor were superior.” Jan 23, 2008 by
Sheena from Surry, BC CA
“Friendly helpful staff. Lovely clean rooms. Shower had no soap holder!! Sunday breakfast was amazing. Yoga on the beach as the sun rose over Haleakala was amazing. Pool seemed inadequate for the size of hotel. Beach was lovely. Our room was a bit noisy as it was near the lobby.” Jan 20, 2008 by
Steve from Denver, CO
“We stayed at the Maui Prince for our "mini-moon" in January 2008. In my opinion it is a decent 2.5 star hotel. I would not call it luxurious in any way but it is perfectly comfortable for a getaway. Just be aware that the Makena area is quiet. Best things here are the beaches, peace and quiet. There are restaurants within a 5 min drive and more within reasonable driving distances.” Jan 20, 2008 by
Heather from Canton, OH
“The hotel is not close to most of the other resorts in the area. It was nice at times, because we had some of the facilities (pool, ocean, beach) to ourselves, but at other times we wished there was more going on. The pool leaves a LOT to be desired there is one small round pool and a small kiddie pool. The hot tubs were afterthoughts and were the kind that people put in their backyard. The rooms were very spacious, but the decor was very outdated. It was not a top of the line hotel, but it was decent for the price.” Jan 17, 2008 by
Laura from San Marcos, CA
“We were initially disappointed when the hotel we were assigned was the Maui Prince. It's far from any shops/restaurants, and only had one small pool. But we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was very nice and private. It was clean. We were not given a room with much view but could still see the ocean from our patio. We did not try the restaurants, but did utilize the spa. We had an amazing massage on the beach at sunset. The staff was mostly friendly. I would recommend this hotel.”
