“Nice pool. The hotel has been updated but we expects more than this from a Marriott in Hawaii. Don't overpay, its not worth it.” Oct 25, 2009 by
Dave from East Point,GA
“Great resort in the middle of everything.” Sep 29, 2009 by
John from Las Vegas,NV
“Great time, staff was friendly and the hotel was beyond expectations.” Sep 13, 2009 by
Craig from Mill Valley,CA
“Great location, lovely facility, friendly staff. Good for the resort (Disneyland like) experience. But eat offsite -the food was awful and expensive.” Sep 13, 2009 by
Laura from Las Vegas,NV
“Greeted by our names from all the staff. Very clean, great location, pools were just wonderful and the beach is awesome. Cant ask for a better place to stay on the Big Island of Hawaii. Daily and nightly dinner and drink specials were fabulous!!” Aug 30, 2009 by
Joseph from Maricopa,AZ
“Would recommend to friends and family.” Aug 17, 2009 by

“Great place to stay on the Big Island.” Jul 24, 2009 by
Donna from Mesa,AZ
“This is a beautiful hotel with a wonderful beach. We at breakfasts, lunches, and dinners at their restaurant and loved it each time. Staff was very friendly. Our flight did not leave until after 9:00 pm, and after we checked out, we were extended a hospitality room (which was just another hotel room - no charge at all) for one hour later that day in which we could shower and get ready - a welcome treat after spending the day in the ocean.” Jun 16, 2009 by
Mary Anne from Windsor,Canada
“We enjoyed it very much.” May 21, 2009 by
Kay from Royal Oak,MI
“I loved the decor/lanai. I did not like the casual food choices. No place to get just a good sandwich for lunch or breakfast on the go. I did not like the lack of pool chairs and how they were crammed together. I did not like the beach berm. Saana checked me in and was really great. I had been traveling for 36 hours due to flight problems and missed my first day of check in so she gave me an ocean view room with a balcony plus a hug! The other staff was not quite with it when they locked me out of my room and I had to wait in line in my wet swimsuit for them to give me a new key to my room.” Apr 18, 2009 by
Leslie from Port Moody,Canada
“Family friendly hotel that has a waterside and two pools. Beautiful location with vibrant flowers.” Dec 4, 2008 by
Eric from Renton,WA
“A nice hotel with a great location. With a beach on site, shopping and golf close by. Rooms are decent size, not large, but comfortable.” Sep 8, 2008 by
Laurie J. from San Clemente, CA
“Excellent.” Sep 3, 2008 by
Dr. R. from Carson City, NV
“Too expensive for food and drinks - most guests eat out. $150 2-hour sunset cruise-watered down drinks, choppy sea, lousy piece of chicken with lettuce flying all around the boat, bad choice, etc. Hotel was fine -amenities lousy.” Aug 28, 2008 by
Brian from Troy, NY
“A nice hotel that has all of the resort feature boxes checked off. There is also convention facilities here. The beach is not very nice, but they do have some sailing trips that leave right from the hotel beach. There were some Sea Turtles on the beach to watch. The pool is a nice infinity pool and great for cooling off. There is a separate kiddy pool, but the older kids will all be in the adult pool. You will be charged $20/day which included internet, snorkel rental, parking and some free Mai Tai coupons. Don't waste your money on the hotel food, there are some good restaurants in the shopping plaza up the road.” Aug 16, 2008 by
Ravi from Ocala, FL
“Hotel personnel are friendly and provided a great service. Rooms are clean. The only complaint I have is that although the bed is soft, it is sagging in the middle. It felt like I was sleeping in the hammock.” Jul 29, 2008 by
Dana from Keauhou, HI
“The hotel has a modern feel to it and looks very recently updated. Rooms are small, yet comfortable and clean. Those with allergies to feathers and down, take heed. Or request to have these left out of room was not honored and my partner wound up with a severe allergy attack the first night of our stay. The hotel restaurants and room service food leave a lot to be desired and are very costly without providing a high quality of food. Also note, room service adds an automatic gratuity to your checks, however when you sign for it, they don't tell you that. (It is written on the menu, but my partner didn't read the menu so he wound up tipping 40%!). Hop on over to the King's and Queen's shops for far better food.” Jul 26, 2008 by
Lorraine from San Jose, CA
“Excellent family hotel. A little pricey for an extended stay!” Jul 19, 2008 by
Gary from Lower Hutt, HI
“I don't think there is enough happening to keep your guests there - have to go to the shopping malls for most things.” Jun 16, 2008 by
Kim from Dayville, CT
“This hotel surpassed our expectations. The location and amenities were excellent. The rooms were decorated with beautiful furnishings and were equipped with every amenity needed. I would highly recommend this hotel to family and friends.” Jun 15, 2008 by
Elizabeth from Devine, TX
“This hotel was fantastic. The rooms were spacious. The staff friendly, and the grounds were beautiful. I would love to stay there again!” Jun 8, 2008 by
Maggie from Tucson, AZ
“This hotel was amazing. At check-in in fact, they said they had gone ahead and upgraded our room to a king size ocean view room! It was incredible! The facilities, grounds and location of this resort exceeded every expectation we had. This would be a great hotel for both families and couples.” May 30, 2008 by
Mike from Vancouver, WA
“Long check in time due to someone calling in sick. Asked for an upgrade to the room and was told they did not have openings. From the lights that were on in the evening, they were not even 1/4 full. Friendly, helpful staff. Dining was overpriced, bland and so slow we left before dessert was delivered. Upon check out, they waived the dining bill. You will need to go to Kona for reasonably priced food.” May 27, 2008 by
Relenie from North Brunswick, NJ
“This hotel has one of the best beaches in the big island Hawaii. I loved the location and there are a lot of things to do even if you're limited to just the hotel and its surrounding areas. The food is ok, but like a lot of places/restaurants in Hawaii, it's expensive.” May 12, 2008 by
Carrie from New York, NY
“We really enjoyed our stay and would return to the Marriott.” May 11, 2008 by
Janis from Huntington Beach, CA
“Great place to stay - comfortable room, beautiful pools and beach - and well trained employees that strive to make one's stay a pleasure.” May 1, 2008 by
Michelle from Federal Way, WA
“My stay was wonderful. The staff was very accommodating and the room decor was so inviting. It was a great place to relax and in walking distance of all sorts of shops and restaurants. The brunch buffet was delicious. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone.” Apr 27, 2008 by
Diana from Los Osos, CA
“Beautiful grounds that had a gorgeous beach and pool area. Clean comfortable rooms. I liked being able to walk to shops and restaurants.” Apr 24, 2008 by
Brenda from Seattle, WA
“Great sandy beach location. Perfect for families or couples with a nice pool, beach and fitness room. The downsides are the resort fee, restaurant and beachside activity prices.” Apr 22, 2008 by
Cindy from Boise, ID
“Great hotel.” Apr 16, 2008 by
Janet from Leesburg, VA
“1. Hotel room was nice and comfortable with decent view except the duvet cover has a blood stain which was gross. When I first complaint about it they send a fresh duvet cover but expecting the customer to change duvet cover. By the time they have someone the change it, it was the third morning and after I complaint to the front desk again.2. We were not aware nor notified the charge upon the check in. In the package which includes the parking, two cocktails etc., but we only handed the two cocktail when we first check in.” Apr 9, 2008 by
Debbie from Ventura, CA
“We absolutely loved the location, decor, size, facilities and grounds of this hotel. It was very clean and comfortable. The mattresses were incredible. We liked that the pool area was open 24/7.” Apr 6, 2008 by
Kristian from North Bend, WA
“Nicely manicured grounds, excellent location and a great luau!” Mar 30, 2008 by
Kristine from Aurora, CO
“Hotel is beautiful, close to the beach, and fun for the family. Many pools to choose from if you do not want to go to the ocean.” Mar 23, 2008 by
Tonya from Portland, OR
“Excellent location, great views, plenty to do. This Marriott property met all our standards for a fabulous resort / vacation getaway.” Mar 20, 2008 by
Yuri from San Francisco, CA
“Excellent location, close to everything. Own swimmable beach. Small, but very clean room. Excellent housekeeping service. To be a 4 star hotel they need to improve bathrooms. Too small and looks little bit old. Couple days before arrival we called hotel and ask for parking fees. We were told that parking charge will be $7.00 per day. When we arrive front desk informed us that we have to pay fee of 20.00 per day which include parking and other services (local calls, internet etc.) which we do not need. We asked front desk manager and she explained that it is resort fees and everybody pays it. Do not know if this is true, but we accepted her explanation. Other than that everything was excellent.” Mar 18, 2008 by
Herman from Myrtle Beach, SC
“Excellent hotel. A bit expensive in the restaurants. Situated 20 miles north of Kona, so to get to and from town took some time. Close to shops in the area, but they were very upscale and expensive. Pool area was exceptional.” Mar 13, 2008 by
Lisa from Portland, OR
“Open common areas were beautiful and the room was very nicely done although a tad small for a family of four. Our room was a great value as it was listed as a garden view but from our lanai we could see the ocean, the pool area, and even some of the luau performance. The pool area was just the right size for keeping track of the kids and I like how they incorporated the historical trails around the property. The only negative was the high cost of food at the hotel. Luckily, this hotel/resort is within walking distance to other food choices in Kings' Shops and Queens' Marketplace. Overall, if you want to stay in the Kohala resort area, this is a great choice.” Mar 11, 2008 by
Joanne from Davis, CA
“This is an excellent 4 star resort in Waikoloa, would highly recommended. Updated rooms, nicely decorated, excellent service. Landscaping and pools were beautiful. Family friendly. Hope to return someday. Location to shops and beach can't be beat in this area.” Mar 10, 2008 by
John from Piedmont, CA
“Nice hotel but resort fee of $20 a day required.” Mar 5, 2008 by
Susan from Koloa, HI
“Great salt water pools & Jacuzzi. Nice exercise room. Convenient to Sand Beach in front of Resort. Very convenient to walk to Kings and also Queens 2 shopping centers.” Mar 4, 2008 by
Madelyn from Berkeley, CA
“I have never slept in a more comfortable bed than the one(s) we had at this hotel. (We stayed twice.) Other reviewers have complained about the resort fee. Though I was initially put off by this as well, we realized the value once we were there. Parking alone (self park) is $14/day. Snorkeling is $7/hour/person. You get a half day rental for 2 people each day you stay. And this includes the day you check out. You can park and stay on site, using the pool, lounging at the beach, Snorkeling the bay until that night if you want to. In fact, they even offered us a "hospitality room" to shower in if we opted to relax poolside that afternoon or went sightseeing and wanted to rinse off before boarding our plan that night. This is a free service, included in that resort fee. I am pregnant and couldn't take advantage of the Mai Tai that they offer. No worries! That's just a suggestion. They have many drinks to choose from. I got a virgin Chi-Chi that was delicious and my husband opted for a Black Butte Porter. One point to take into consideration - this is a resort area. There isn't much close other than other resorts and a shopping center with only a couple of restaurant choices. Despite this, I'd stay there again over the places in Kailua-Kona because it was so much nicer and when you were on property you didn't feel the need to be elsewhere. My advice: Stop at Safeway in Kona and pick up water & fruit to store in the fridge. Breakfast cafe is limited and the restaurant offerings are pricey.” Mar 4, 2008 by
Rob from Racine, WI
“Overall, the hotel was very solid. It was clean and in a great location. The pool and beach area are relaxing and we had no problem getting a seat. The bartenders were nice. They only had one person working the seats by the pools and it took us a half an hour or more to get our breakfast since we did not do the buffet.” Feb 29, 2008 by
Leslie from La Jolla, CA
“This pool is easily recommended based on location. The pool is above average for a resort. I would say this is a nice resort, good location, clean, updated room, perhaps nothing to totally knock your socks off, but very nice, particularly for location.” Feb 26, 2008 by
Michelle from Fairport, NY
“This resort has the easiest access to the beach in this area. There are many ocean activities right there. Beautiful grounds including ancient fish ponds and infinity pool. The most beautiful sunsets around!!” Feb 25, 2008 by
Lorraine from Toledo, OH
“This was just a wonderful place to stay. Far exceeded our expectations. Employees were so friendly and helpful. Buffets were out of this world. Loved the room layout and the mattress and bedding was luxurious. A place to relax and enjoy the peace of Hawaii. Eternity pool was like bath water. Lovely hotel. We are now Marriott fans and will be staying with them in the future.” Feb 12, 2008 by
Todd from Blaine, WA
“When we check-in our safe was not in working condition. We had to wait for over an hour to have it fixed. Also, when we checked in, we put our leftovers and beverages in the refrigerator to have as a meal that night. When we returned to our room for the evening, our beer and leftovers were almost hot in the fridge. We talked with the loss and prevention manager, and he went above and beyond our expectations to make things right.” Feb 11, 2008 by
Heather from Grosse Ile, MI

“I think we had the worst located room in the hotel and yet it still had a decent view. It had new carpet and linens. The staff was friendly and helpful. The new infinity pool is nice and beach area is well maintained. The hotel is located across the street from a small shopping area with a few upscale stores. A new shopping area opening soon just a short walk away. The area is safe, laid back and pleasant.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Feb 9, 2008 by

“My husband and I are Marriott rewards members and frequent Marriott hotels. We were very disappointed with this property. Either classified as a "resort" or a "four star hotel" it didn't meet our expectations. The added $20 Resort fee included two drinks daily, 1/2 day snorkel rental, In room internet access, Free local calls, free long dist connect, $10 movie credit, 1 hour daily tennis - the on site tennis courts were closed, snorkeling was off property. The beach is a public beach between the property and the ocean. I did not feel safe alone at the beach. The self parking fee was not disclosed at check in. There is one restaurant on property. Staff is not welcoming. First room we were given faced the main highway - no view other than the highway. We requested to be moved and got a better view room with double beds. The hotel was not at or near capacity.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.
