“Great price and location. Right on the beach. The rooms and pools were adequate and clean. I would use the hotel again if I went to Kauai.”

• Wonderful beach, friendly staff, located close to everything.
• The restaurant closed at 9 am for breakfast, property had been sold so lounge area was not open.

“The hotel and grounds were kept clean. The pools were well kept, one was a little small. The staffs were friendly and helpful. The beach was very nice. The hotel is in a very nice centralized location on the island. We had a wonderful time.”

• The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly.
• The bathroom could be larger/ nicer.

“The hotel is clean and reasonably well maintained, and that was all I was hoping for. Also, the location is right on the beach. I will try to stay here again if I travel to Kauai. Again, not new or really nice, but clean and safe.”

• Awesome resort right on the beach for partying and romance, beers at the pool etc,
• The hotel Cafe was not good quality food, hotel workers loud in the morning.

“This was an excellent place to stay and party with my boyfriend. I picked it for that purpose and it served us well. They were lax with the rules and let us drink beer at the pool, stay late in the pool after it closed and the place was a little loud an a little rowdy with guests all having a good time laughing and drinking. A good time was had by all. I would highly recommend this place to young couples looking to have a good time. I would not recommend this place to older people, people seeking quiet or people with children.”

• They closed the pool at 6pm.

“Well maintained older building on the beach with a lovely city nearby and many attractions within walking distance. Quiet and friendly with large lawn for games and chairs on the beach.”

• Location to stores wasn't too bad.
• Close, good, inexpensive restaurants were hard to find

“This is an older hotel that is basically a place to sleep. The views of the ocean were often beautiful, family wading problematic. While the rooms were clean and well maintained (daily maid service) they lacked some of the things now commonly offered (ex., coffee maker--we went out and bought our own!), complimentary local newspaper; no listing of restaurants or other amenities (such as Internet sites); no scale to weigh luggage before leaving--which is critical when Hawaiian Air limits bags to 50 pounds. Finally, there was no shuttle service to and from the airport, which is somewhat surprising since it's only about five miles from the hotel.”

• No coffee pot in room, AC was weak but worked.

“We enjoyed our stay. Security was great, shopping was right next door - short walk. Staff very helpful. Short walk from room to beach, not a swimming spot though.”

• 2 pools, next door to shopping and eating, on beach.
• Could use some renovations, maybe a pool bar.

“The staff was courteous, friendly and accommodating. The location was excellent for ease of access, options for entertainment and centrally located to all sights. The rooms were clean and the pools were well kept. We will return to Kauai Sands, hopefully in the next couple months.”

• The staff was amazingly friendly and nice. The beach was fantastic.
• Both pools were closed during our one-day stay.

“This was a great mid-range hotel with terrific beach access, located directly behind the Coconut Market Place. The hotel restaurant had a good breakfast and was reasonably priced. The room had a full kitchen and two queen-sized beds. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants comfort and amenities without the huge prices.”

• Beautiful view of Coconut Beach just outside out room.
• The restaurant had a gorgeous view but unfortunately wasn't very clean.

“My boyfriend and I had our best Hawaiian vacation staying at this hotel. It was located in the center of all the wonderful sites of Kauai. For the price range we couldn't ask for more (included was a lovely trail along the back of resorts and the beautiful beaches wonderful moonlight walk!!).”

• It's right on a beautiful beach. The sunrise was beautiful.
• The restaurant closed too early.

“It's an older hotel so may not be up to the newer high rises in beauty, but the rooms were clean and neat and the staff was friendly. It was a good value for the price. There is shopping and restaurants right next door. The beach was beautiful. I would definitely go there again.”

• The hotel staff not following through with their promise to me regarding name changes on one room.

• Great location, right on the beach. Friendly staff. This is a good budget hotel.
• My only complaint was that the on-site restaurant stopped serving breakfast around 8:30 AM.

“We stayed at the Kauai Sands Hotel for one night before moving to our time-share for the rest of the week. It was very basic, but clean -- exactly what I expected for the price/rating. The location was a bonus. It took us about 10 minutes to drive there from the airport, and the hotel is located right on the beach. It was also right next to the Coconut Marketplace for shopping and dining. Overall a good experience.”

• The location at beachfront was great at a really good price as well.
• The bath towels were small and thin. The halls smelled of smoke. There was no internet access.

“Overall, I thought this hotel was a good hotel and the fact that it is family owned is always a good thing. But, the hotel was old and it showed. I feel like they skimped on some things that should not be skimped on. The towels were small and thin. The mattresses were old and hard. But, the location was awesome - beautiful view, beach front, and near Kappa.”

“Hotel was clean, and the staff was friendly. The restaurant off of the hotel is right on the water and reasonably priced. The hotel is directly next door to the Coconut Market place terrific for eating and shopping. The hotel is pretty central on Kauai making opposite areas of the island about an hour drive maximum. Would definitely stay again!”

• It was a good location & for Kauai, the price was great.
• The mattresses were hard as a rock.

“We were only staying one night until our time share started the next day. We didn't arrive until almost 11 pm and checked out the next day so we didn't have a lot of experience with it. For the price we paid, it was nice enough. It had pretty grounds and part of it was on the Pacific, though not a scenic beach.”

“It is very dark, very scary hallway. Room has roaches Everywhere. Crawling in my sons crib, on our tooth brushes, in the shower! The hotel staff says "you can switch rooms, but the roaches will be in there too".”

“Blue and Green shag carpets indicated that they were not renovated. It was clean, and close to the beach, but other than that, it was way out dated. ”

• The restaurant breakfasts were excellent. The hotel is on the ocean.
• A coffee pot in the room would have been nice.

“This was a basic, comfortable stay with outdoor pools and ocean to swim in. The staff was helpful in getting us 1 king bed instead of 2 doubles when we asked.”

• Dumpy decor.

“This hotel is basically for the beach crowd. The main courtyard has a beautiful view of the ocean, and the gardens are well-maintained. The rooms are straight out of the '70's, but clean. There are 2 nice pools on the property, but the establishment is not particularly family-friendly. Parking is a royal pain at night! The hotel is centrally located for getting around Kauai, although getting back on the main highway can be difficult at times. If you are not too choosy about amenities, then this is a good basic choice.”

“I had a lower floor unit and did not feel secure. No coffee pot in room. Had to pay for local phone calls so they made me come back to the front desk to check out even though they had a credit card on file and delayed my departure. Older, but clean. No more than a AAA 2-Diamond budget hotel. Okay for my last night of my stay before going to the airport, but would have been disappointed with my trip to Kauai if this is where I stayed the entire trip.”

• For a 2 star hotel you expect a certain level of quality and this hotel did not meet that.

“This was definitely not a 2 star hotel, but a 1 star, it fits more of the profile of the Rode way Inns and the Econometric rather than the Comfort Inn and the Holiday Inns. Disappointing.”

• The rooms were old and worn.

“The location couldn't be beat! The hotel was right on the beach and was right next door to the Coconut Marketplace. The grounds were landscaped very nicely and very clean. The room was a step up from a Motel 6, but was comfortable for us. I got the idea that this hotel was very nice when it was first built, but it is just an older hotel now. Our room was a good size, with two double beds and a day bed. We had a lanai, which faced the parking lot but was separated by a high wall. It was nice. The pools looked very well kept, and they provided beach chairs on the edge of the property that was beach (really nice!). Parking was a little far from our room, but overall we really enjoyed our stay. I'd probably have given this hotel 1.5 stars.”

“I loved the beach and the courtyard. The pineapple biscuits were delicious as was the corned beef hash, bacon and ham omelet's.”
