“I would recommend this hotel highly.” Aug 26, 2007 by
Juhyun from Seoul, ON CA
“This hotel needs renovation strongly.” Aug 24, 2007 by
Steen from Issaquah, WA
“Apparently this hotel will be torn down next month, so no one wants to spend a nickel to do proper maintenance and deep cleaning. It was worn out and dirty when I stayed there 4 years ago and they haven't updated a thing since then - it's just gotten worse. Fairly disappointing experience from hotel.” Aug 23, 2007 by
Eric from Superior, CO
“Excellent resort. Great staff. Too bad this resort is closing shortly for tear down for condos/town homes.” Aug 21, 2007 by
Mike from Westlake Village, CA
“Beautiful hotel in a perfect location. Old style in that the grounds are mostly grass and foliage as opposed to swimming pools, waterfalls etc. The Maui Onion restaurant is excellent food at Hawaii reasonable prices. The beach is outstanding. The hotel is shutting down for good on September 6, but not because the hotel isn't a gem. New buyer is using the premier location to build ultra high end condos. If you can stay here before they close, do it. The hotel is well maintained, the rooms are large, and location is perfect.” Aug 21, 2007 by
Jamie from Seattle, WA
“Hotel was more like a 2.5 star and not of resort quality. Its closing soon and one could definitely tell.” Aug 12, 2007 by
Lisa from Etobicoke, OH
“We had an amazing stay at this resort. Very convenient location, great view of the ocean. Overall good.” Aug 4, 2007 by
Eric from Schaumburg, IL
“I do not understand why this hotel is still being offered in the resort category. They are scheduled for closure in September to be torn down. Many of the facilities have been shut down and the staff is clear about the closure. It did not feel like a resort. Very disappointed.” Jul 25, 2007 by
Anna from Raleigh, NC
“Does not matter, will be demolished in a few months.” Jul 16, 2007 by
Tricia P. from Truckee, CA
“This hotel meets our needs. The location was great and the views and grounds are really nice. We got our room for a great price and they even upgraded us at check in. The staff was really friendly. It's not the Grand Wailea, but it's not nearly as expensive either. Cocktails at our hotel were about $10, other resorts in the area were $15 and up. We didn't have the crowds the other resort had either. We loved this place and we are sad they are tearing it down, rather then just updating it.” Jul 8, 2007 by
Kerre from Ringgold, GA
“This hotel was very dirty! I felt it was unhealthy to stay there! When this problem was brought to the hotel staff attention we were told we could have another room for an extra charge. The manager did nothing to accommodate our family!” Jul 7, 2007 by
Jack from San Francisco, CA
“All resorts in Waialea are expensive and will cost you a minimum of $300 or more a night. However, although the rooms at the Renaissance and food are marginal at best, the grounds, the beach, the ambience are beautiful. You may get nicer room features at the Grand Wailea or Four Seasons but they are packed with children, have minimal open space and frankly you feel like you're in a zoo. And you'll pay an extra $200+ a night easily. So choose your priorities.” Jul 5, 2007 by
Jp from Menlo Park, CA
“Great location, beautiful view. Restaurant is not very good, but overall good value for the cost.” Jun 29, 2007 by
Scott from Miami, FL
“The hotel was okay. The lobby and grounds were beautiful, including the gardens. The location was wonderful - right on the beach. There was great snorkeling and swimming right outside the door. However, I thought that the rooms were a little on the old side - the furniture and carpeting definitely showing their wear. It was generally clean. The staff was friendly. However, the Hotel is expected to be torn down in September to make room for a new hotel. This is not a bad place to stay until then.” Jun 6, 2007 by
H from Pasadena, CA
“Rooms were very dirty. Hotel is not kept up at all. Relic of the 70's.” May 10, 2007 by
Jed from Draper, UT
“This hotel is not a resort. A resort is a place to live not just stay like a hotel.” Apr 20, 2007 by
Nancy from Oak Park, CA
“We had heard that the hotel was closing in the summer, and we were pleasantly surprised at its existing condition. ” Apr 11, 2007 by
Nan from Monterey Park, CA
“The renaissance wailed resort was very comfortable and accommodating. The staff is always very welcoming, and helpful. Overall, very satisfied with my stay.” Apr 4, 2007 by
Abby from Lake Quivira, KS
“Beautiful location. Hotel is on the downward - a bit dated and not the quality I expected. The pool was very disappointing for the kids but the beaches were excellent. People were very friendly and the weather was perfect. I would have been angry to have paid full price but for about half-price it was o.k. I don't think I will go there again with so many other choices available.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Apr 4, 2007 by
Deian from Blodgett, OR
“The hotel was beautiful and the grounds/vegetation/landscaping was also beautiful. Our room was on the ground floor, overlooking the gardens and the ocean, so it was perfect (the room itself was outdated and did not seem to fit with the hotel, but it was fine). The staff was friendly, but a bit snooty to the "less-than-wealthy" crowd (which included us).” Apr 2, 2007 by
Marisa from Pacifica, CA
“Overall loved it! We would like to stay here again & will be very sad if it changes to a timeshare property. The garden area was wonderfully beautiful. The rooms are very comfortable.” Apr 1, 2007 by
Rob from Aurora, CO
“I think people are being unfair to this hotel. It is in a great location and the grounds are beautiful. I have stayed in Kauai and had a very similar experience. Cons: the furniture is a little dated, but adequate. They charge you $15 a day if you have a car, weather they park it or you do. For those of you that have complained about the carpets, you will be happy to know they were steam cleaning them while we were there.(we didn't think they were an issue anyway)pros: great location. Restaurants had great food and good service. The grounds were well kept and very nice. Tips: buy a refillable mug as soon as you arrive, they are $25 and you get unlimited refills of soda and coffee. They ask you when you arrive if you have a vehicle, I would be tempted to say no. They do not give you a tag or anything. If you were to self park I don't know how they would know. On luau day, don't get caught up in the excitement and think you need to go. Ask around, there are far better deals for luaus on the island. Relax and quit worrying about these reviews, you won't have a bad time in Maui.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Mar 26, 2007 by

“The hotel is in an awesome location with plenty of fun things nearby. The beach out in front of the hotel is o.k. But there are plenty of great beaches within a short walking distance. The pool is small for a fancy resort, however it was never crowded. The staff was very friendly and we would definitely stay their again, our only real complaint would be that the room was a bit dirty and quite old (felt like a super 8 room in the early 90's). If it helps my wife and I are 30 & 32.” Mar 26, 2007 by
Rene from Payson, AZ
“The hotel in need of room furniture upgrade and new carpet, but other than that, had a nice room.” Mar 26, 2007 by
Sandeep from Frisco, TX
“Hotel was clean, comfortable, and conveniently located. To deserve the star rating it needs to have better quality mattresses and be more kid friendly in a major vacation spot. Parking rates are significant and should be disclosed. For the price of room + parking fees I could have stayed at a better hotel than this.” Mar 23, 2007 by
Ken from Thornhill, ON CA
“This hotel is located in a quieter part of Maui. This was our first trip to Maui and after traveling the island we found the other areas much too overcrowded and full of t-shirt shops etc. We were very pleased with the location and facilities. Free internet should be added and the rooms might be a bit old but the grounds and rooms were immaculate. I understand the resort will be closing but the staff was continually cleaning, polishing, trimming etc. Seeing whales from our balcony was a plus too. A rental car is a must as there's not too much within walking distance other than a small high end mall. We would definitely return.” Mar 22, 2007 by
Meg from Louisville, KY
“Good resort hotel with beautiful landscaping, nice pool, and spacious lobby and public areas. Room in need of renovation. We were surprised by extra $15 per day charge for self parking. Staff friendly and helpful. Great we ilea beach location.” Mar 21, 2007 by
Tim from Coquitlam, BC CA
“Very friendly and helpful staff, great location and view. Rooms are nice but the hotel could use a bit touching up.” Mar 18, 2007 by
Cengiz C. from Sunnyavle, CA
“My room was facing to loading zone and I had a son who is 16 months old. Every hour big and small cars with engine (at least small cars should work with electricity) was coming and making a lot of noise during loading and unloading. I complained. They asked me to pay more to get ocean view room which it did not make sense to me. I did not have to pay more just to have quite room which I did not accept it.” Mar 15, 2007 by
Michael from Jamesville, NY
“The Renaissance hotel is lost in the midst of real upscale properties in Wailea. Old property, small pool, basic restaurants, just does not compare with the other properties on Maui.” Mar 14, 2007 by
Victoria from Gilbert, AZ
“Even though the hotel is under resort, there were a lot of things it lacks. The breakfast buffet was ok but not a lot of selection and you have to pay extra if you want an oblate with your buffet. The pool is a bit disappointing for a resort and there weren't a lot of things for younger kids to play like a slide or a playground. The room wasn't really that well cleaned for the rating it got. I would expect it to be nicer and cleaner. I saw dead bugs on my sink and floor after the room was cleaned so I don't know how well they clean. Overall, I liked the location and the landscape of the hotel but was a bit disappointed with the amenities for a resort.” Mar 8, 2007 by
Candice from Los Angeles, CA
“This hotel was not an unpleasant place to stay but I would not consider it a resort. The koi were lovely as were the rest of the grounds. The lobby area was beautiful. The rooms were lack luster and our room was over the parking area which diminished the view.” Mar 5, 2007 by
Deb from Pueblo, CO
“The renaissance is among the oldest hotels in the wailed area, but still has the beauty and amenities that are expected in this location. The pool was very small but never really crowded. Great location right on the beach walkway and close to the shops of wailed. Awesome snorkeling at the hotel beach!” Feb 21, 2007 by
Annie from Vancouver, WA
“Excellent location, beautiful view, nice facilities. Weak pool drinks and a bit of nickel and diming, but otherwise stellar.” Feb 20, 2007 by
Dwight from New York, NY
“I was on hold from over 75 minutes and then had the representative hang up on me. I had called earlier and had similar experience. Hotel's customer service was not much better. ” Feb 11, 2007 by
Kathryn from Milwaukee, WI
“Very friendly staff, great location on beach walks, we enjoyed the lobby bar at sunset.” Feb 8, 2007 by
Jim from Commerce City, CO
“Excellent faculty and did not let us down in any way.” Jan 31, 2007 by
Maggie from Copperopolis, CA
“Very good. After we made written comments on our breakfast receipt the next morning service was impeccable.” Jan 29, 2007 by
Lori from San Jose, CA
“I was nervous about staying at this hotel because I had read poor reviews. We were pleasantly surprised and thoroughly loved the hotel. The location, water/landscaping, pool areas and views are incredible. The room was clean, a little small we had a 2 bed room and we didn't have an ocean view room, the hotel staff were friendly and the location was great- you can walk a long a path each morning and evening. And it was wonderful.” Jan 27, 2007 by
Robert E. from Covington, GA
“This hotel is not a 4 or 5 star property any longer. The property is outstanding in location and grounds, work should be done if it is to be maintained as a 4 or 5 star resort properties, charging the prices that they do. I have stayed at the diamond resort nearby, and find that it is a much better value, except in the area of location on the beach.” Jan 24, 2007 by
Eric from Wheat Ridge, CO
“Very nice, albeit older hotel. Common areas are beautiful, absolutely gorgeous landscaping/grounds. Get an ocean view room if you are going to spend much time in your room. If you're just sleeping here, any room is okay.” Jan 21, 2007 by
Kj from El Dorado Hills, CA
“If you go to Maui, you need to have a view from your room. The hotel was empty and they still gave us a terrible room. I wouldn't stay at this hotel again.” Dec 24, 2006 by
Ty from Albany, CA
“This is a wannabe resort. It's old, costs as much as another resort (fees, etc), but doesn't really offer much. It has a puny pool, tiny grounds, and overall just seems like a nice and expensive hotel.” Dec 21, 2006 by
Neil from Salt Lake City, UT
“Definitely not a 4 star hotel. 2 stars is a better description. Rooms are very dated and filthy. We had to change rooms because of a horrible musty smell in our first room.” Dec 21, 2006 by
Deb from Lafayette, CA
“Overall, my experience at this hotel was good. The hotel and location were very nice. I think it has the best location of all of the Wailea hotels. It is much quieter and laid back than the other large hotels on the beach. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are large, but need updating. The carpet was filthy. I understand, however, that the hotel is soon to be torn down to convert to high end condos. This explains why they have not updated the rooms. I am very sorry to see this hotel go. It was quiet and laid back. All it needs is some basic upgrades in the rooms such as new carpet, paint and furnishings. The pool was a little small but did not seem crowded when I went. It was not over-run with kids like some of the other nearby hotels. They charged to park which was higher than even the valet at the Four Seasons. The gym was basic, but adequate. The restaurant was pricey, but the waiters were so friendly. The buffets were popular and a good deal for that neighborhood. The food was only average at the main restaurant but the burgers at the poolside Maui Onion were good. The Spa there was basic and not fancy like the neighboring "corporate spas", but I had the best massage.” Dec 14, 2006 by
George from Van Nuys, CA
“Very nice resort hotel with all the amenities you'd expect. The room decor is a bit dated, but not too bad. However the room are large, the balconies large and all fully equipped with the expected amenities. The grounds and faculties are beautiful and the location is great. Overall a very nice resort hotel, made all the better by the price. I would be pleased and happy to stay here again.” Dec 13, 2006 by
Jim from Calgary, AB CA
“Excellent staff, friendly. The valets run to get your car, the front desk staff are polite and accommodating, restaurant staff are always there. Don't expect a good room. Rooms are dated and, while you expect some bugs in a tropical climate this was too much for a supposed 4 star hotel.” Dec 9, 2006 by
John from Burnaby, BC CA
“Hotel was in an excellent location, was very clean and meets almost all my expectations.” Nov 23, 2006 by
Neal A. from Honolulu, HI
“The hotel had a good location, but has faded since we last stayed 8 years ago. It needs a renovation.” Nov 21, 2006 by
Michelle from Bellevue, WA
“Not up to the Marriott standards - lobby is beautiful, rooms are smelly and carpet is filthy.”
