• Construction in street outside, widening Ala Moana Blvd.

“Enjoy this hotel because it is not at the manic end of Waikiki. A solid, conservative choice. The lanais are huge, and the ceiling to floor windows provide big views. The rooms are big, and the kitchenettes help keep the cost of eating down.”

“The hotels exterior is very 70ish looking. Surprised to see it is a combination of time shares, condos and hotel rooms. Rooms were super large, beds very comfortable, linens felt terrific and smelled great. Rooms were a little tattered. Some more updated than others. Third night we were given a room with lovely kitchen. Newly renovated and well appointed. Nice marble shower. Great views of the ocean and the Hilton Hawaiian Village next door. Fabulous location. Nice staff. Would stay here again.”

• The hours of the pool are too short. I wish it were open at night.

“It has great location, between Ala Moana shopping center and Waikiki where traffic is less congested than Waikiki. The rooms are large and comfortable with a lanai. Parking at $25 per day is too expensive.”

• The beds were quite comfortable.
• Valet parking was way overpriced compared to other local hotels. Some employees were downright rude.

“While the beds were comfortable and the rooms were spacious. The hike to the beach and lagoon was more than expected. The Bellmen were always helpful, but the front desk was almost always rude. The hotel is located in a less than desirable location of Waikiki unless you are only coming in on business. Also, the main hotel restaurant has gone out of business as well as a majority of the shops.”

• Construction noise, hotel has no parking, they sold that building.

“The site overlooks the boat harbor which is nice. They sold one wing of the hotel to another party which is under renovation and it's going to be more confusing in getting around when the construction is finished and access becomes more limited which will not be a nice thing. I live in Hawaii and I know this place, imagine how a tourist will have to deal with it.”

• The room was very spacious. Also gave me a free upgrade!
• The overall look of the hotel, but they are going through renovations.

“Great economic place to stay for business travel or families. The featherbed was a luxurious touch. Too bad I couldn't sleep in during my stay because the bed was so comfortable!”

• Very nice room, lots of space, large bathtub and separate shower.
• Forced and expensive valet, have to pay for internet.

“Our room was fantastic! Very large with nice bathroom and a functioning air condition with remote. We were on the 25th floor, so didn't have much noise from the street but there is a new hotel being built next door which caused some noise. In a downtown setting like Waikiki you can't expect to have peace and quite if you want a reasonable price. We have two complaints: You must pay for internet in your room each day and there is no free self parking. My husband and I rented scooters for getting around town and the valets asked us to park them ourselves and then drop off the keys and pay them. Other than that the hotel was great, it's in a convenient location and the room was great.”

• Too much remodeling going on and out of date and most stuff closed or overpriced.

“No free internet, you have to walk to get to the beach, our view was of construction for the new Hilton. All shops but two were closed. Had to walk through heavy traffic to get to stores and food.”

• Two double beds were not available, so they gave a king and a queen sleeper sofa with a kitchen.
• There had been a sprinkler leak before we arrived. Our hallway was strewn with fans. The hall did feel like a construction zone.

“Since I would be traveling with my children and without my husband, I was very concerned. But the hotel staff was friendly and helpful. They allowed my children to use boogie boards at no charge. They upgraded our room to include a kitchen. It is still under renovation. The elevators are slow. Some public areas are not polished, but our room was clean. Our beds were very comfortable. We had a nice balcony on which we could sit and eat. There was inexpensive parking next door ($15), a small grocery store across the street. Egg's n Things, a super place to eat breakfast was within walking distance. If you want to be in the heart of Waikiki, probably not the place to stay. But it, Hawaii, was very affordable for us. I was very pleased with the Ilikai and would stay there again.”

“Hotel was convenient to where we were going, but too much construction going on currently there (restaurants were closed) and the fact that the hotel fronts the Downtown area meant dodging a good many homeless people while trying to enter the hotel. Garbage was piled up on the street in front of the hotel. That didn't help!”

• You could only valet park at $25.

“My room was beautiful. Tile floors, granite tops, full fridge and stove. Don't be fooled by the outside look of the hotel; inside was gorgeous. Did not like that it was valet parking only at $25 night. Very convenient and easy to/from airport. Would definitely stay here again.”

• When I first checked into the hotel room it smelled moldy. Housekeeping took care of it right away.

• Majority of elevators out of order. No room service.

“The Alkali was a good choice for someone on a budget. The staff was very friendly and the location convenient. We were only there for one night, so I cannot attest to the swimming pool or beach area. I did have two main concerns - the elevators were slow and unreliable only 2 of 6 were working and those 2 seemed to stop on nearly every floor (randomly - no one was getting on or off). Also, the only restaurant open is the upscale Italian on the top floor. There is no room service or bar by the pool. When I called to ask about room service I was told to come down to the concierge desk and view take out menus. The reason I wanted room service is because I didn't want to leave my room. Otherwise a positive experience. If and when the renovations that they are supposed to be doing are completed, the Alkali would be wonderful. Just seems like it's past it's prime and in need of a little boot.”

“Restaurant and bar were closed for remodel which makes it not a 3 star hotel in my mind. Had to walk to other properties for all meals, drinks, and entertainment. Rooms were very large and nice, but hotel is showing its age. Short walk to beach, but not directly on the beach. Lots of construction in the area on other condos/hotels. Once the Ilikai finishes their own remodel and the other construction finishes, it will be much better.”

• I love staying at the Ilikai..The waerfront location is perfect for my business needs. Like the poolk and fitness center

“I really like the Ilikai. When I come to Hawaii for work, I like to say at a place that has everything that I need without having to drive. The pool and fitness center are great and I found the staff to be kind and courteous. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. I go to Hawqaii about every 5 or 6 weeks. I am on a travel budget. If I could get the Ilikai every time, I would be very happy!!!”

• ON the beach and nice restaurant looking out over the pier and into the ocean.
• View the the ocean would have been nice. Our view of the city did not help us unwind.

“Very convenient and short drive from the airport. Right on the beach and you can see Diamond Head crater in the distance from the beach. Bus tours come right to the side entrance. Clean and quiet rooms with refrigerator, microwave, and copy. Staff is very friendly and food is good. Nice view from the restaurant overlooking the pier and into the ocean. A good place to stay on Waikiki.”

• Open-air lobby, pool and Canoes restaurant were great location, windows opened up to see the ocean view
• No wireless internet, parking was $20 a night

• It was truely wonderful.
• The soap machine for washing clothes on a few floors was not working.

“Was absolutely satisfied with all aspects of our wonderful vacation. To our surprise the hotel had upgraded us to a kitchenette. Every thing was more than we ever could have imagined. ”

• The staff was really helpful in helping us get around the island and in recommending tours.
• Our room had not been cleaned when we checked in and the cleaning staff did not do a good job when they did clean.

“The staff was very helpful, the location was just a short walk to the beach, their was great shopping and restaurants within walking distance. The cleanliness of the room, however, was very disappointing.”

“Having lived in Hawaii most of my life I have seen the Illicit fall on hard times, once premier in the 1960s. The renovations have been completed and the IIlikai is lovely with fresh flowers in the lobby friendly staff. I would staff there again.”

“Central location for Waikiki near boat harbor

Check in was too late for us to make any use of the first day.

“I am impressed with this hotel. Being a local resident, I stayed here many times previously and found it to be an average, somewhat dull, but acceptable place to stay. since their renovations in the past few years, the rooms are bigger, brighter and warmer. The staff, always friendly, seems to be even friendlier and more flexible and accommodating than before. My only complaint was the parking, which at 20 per night for guests was a little high.”

• Close to everything I needed...Yacht Club, bus, ala moana shopping center, beach. Nice pool and good restaurants .
• A little noisy as room faced Ala Moana Blvd.

“Having lived in Honolulu for 15 years I knew what a good deal I was getting. This is a great Hotel if you belong to a Yacht Club as you are within walking distance of both the Hawaii and Waikiki Yacht Clubs which are always very gracious to visitors. The hotel has too nice pools plus it is a very short walk to the beach. There are good restaurants in the hotel and also directly across the street. Ala Moana shopping center is also a short walk and the "Bus" stops right at the corner. ”

• It's an older hotel, but the room is clean, and the staff is great
• Nothing bad; just I would like to see they modernize both interior and exterior to make it look more appealing. Elevators are slow for 25 floors.

“Hotel is located near Ala Moana shopping center -- an easy 5-minute walk. I am not impressed by the exterior appearance of the hotel. It's looking a bit dated and unattractive. Elevators tested all guests' patience. I got an upgraded room with a king-size bed and a huge balcony. The room is very clean, and the bed is comfortable. Shower is great but no bathtub. Since the room is so big, the 27-inch TV was a bit far from the bed. I almost have to use a binocular to view the TV programs. Overall, the room is very comfortable, and if I stay in that hotel again, I would request to stay in that room again. I didn't get to try their restaurants, but I have heard great things about their restaurants, and I know their Mile-High Ice Cream Pie is to die for.”

• Parking for locals is cheaper. Excellent front desk staff. Great rooms! I like the couch in the room. Cleaning lady's very friendly.
• We came home late and the parking lot was full. We had already payed for parking. They need more parking. The concierge wasnt very helpfull.

“It was great. I wasnt very impressed with the outside appearance, but one you were inside it was beautifull. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and they look nice. The staff is very friendly. the hotel is right down the street from the Ala Moana Shopping center and that made it convienient.”

• Several members of the staff are at serious risk of being adopted. Great site/service!

“This is an elegant property on the ocean with views of the yacht harbor. If God is in the details," this place is a shrine. The public spaces were inviting and comfortable. Stunningly beautiful arrangements of tropical flowers in strategic places. A staff that defines the spirit of Aloha. I was treated like an honored guest they were delighted to see. I'm going back! ”

• Great location, lovely interior furnishings, comfortable rooms, excellent free nightly entertainment.
• Overzealous cleaning staff took things they should not have, restaurant on location not interested in serving individual travelers (only tour groups).

“This hotel was in a superb location. It is a short walk to the beach and has 2 nice pools on the premises. There is a bus stop serving a number of good bus routes immediately outside the hotel. The rooms are large, comfortable, and have nice tropical decor. Several pools and waterfalls in the lobby and exterior areas promote the tropical theme. There is an excellent nightly Hawaiian music and hula show and a lovely view of the sunset across the harbor in the evening. The views from the rooms are also great in every direction. The hotel is close to excellent shopping and many restaurants. The hotel staff is pleasant and helpful. This hotel is certainly a three-star hotel and an exceptionally good deal.”

“If you come in the wrong door, it is difficult to find the front desk (there are no signs with directions). Also, the lady who checked us in tried to put us (couple) in a room with two twin beds.”
