• Included a breakfast that was wonderful.
• There was a dance going on so the hall way was loud.

• Old-fashion elegance made me feel special.
• Pillows need to be replaced with something softer.

“If you like old-fashion class & style, this hotel is for you. The rooms tend to be small, but well kept. Extended cable and coffee maker in room. Nice hotel, good food, and convenient downtown location. Parking in structure across the street is not included in price, but is reasonable, and only $2/day on weekends plus in-out charges. Convenient public transit. Safe location for walking.”

• The location of it.
• The shower was cold.

“Great price for the hotel, the beds could have been more comfortable and the shower pressure was poor and the water was cold or burning hot. But for the location of the hotel it was worth it.”

• Many street people and felt unsafe in the neighborhood.

“A
party in the very next room kept us up half the night and the staff was not capable of compelling the offenders to quiet down. We were upgraded to a suite for the remainder of our stay but the move was inconvenient and just another reason we would not stay at the hotel again.”

“The room had beer bottle tops from the previous guest when I checked in. The night had security and police calls resulting from parties and arguments in the hallway. The staff was little help. The environment was dark and dirty and is in bad need of an update.”

• The staff were curious and always observant of who was coming and going.
• We felt that it was not a safe neighborhood to be in especially at night time. There were many pan handlers down the street.

“Over all, it was ok. Our air conditioning did not work and asked an attendant to come to fix it. Nobody came. The hotel looked old and need of remodeling (e.g.. carpet, paint). I wish there had been a convenience store within safe walking distance that would stay open late. Inside the hotel, we all felt safe, but as soon as we left the doors to the hotel, especially at night, we felt our guard go up. This hotel will not be on our list next time we travel to Winnipeg.”

• The water slide was good, however, it did not open until 10 am. Why not 8 am.
• Scary part of town. Was approached by beggars 3 times just outside of hotel.

“Nice water-slide. Beautiful architecture inside hotel. Very scary area to have small children because of the beggars were hanging out in front of hotel.”

“The Marlborough Hotel was everything I expected from a 50 year old hotel. Good value and average amenities is what I expected and what they delivered. The location is ideal for events at the MTS Centre.”

“Maybe was a fine hotel in it's day that day has passed. The newer pool area is the only evidence that this property has seen any investment since the mid 80's. Street people were hanging around outside all hours.”

• The architecture in the dining area was amazing!
• The location was not the greatest and had to pay for parking in public lot across the street.

“The hotel was a decent place had a swimming pool with a water slide that was pretty relaxing. The hotel was built in the 1900's so it was a historical place. The restaurant had good food. The part of downtown I stayed at wasn't the best. I saw a man washing windows with dirty water at the stoplights and another asked me for change as I was driving out of the parking lot. I spent most of my time in the hotel because I didn't feel very safe.”

• The maid stole from me. Unsafe area. Tiny room.

“Couldn't have been worse. Room was tiny and dirty. Hallways had an odor. The area was terrible and you couldn't walk anywhere without being asked for money.”

• It was in a perfect location and the quality was expected from the price.
• It seemed a bit rundown and the staff wasn't always friendly.

“I really liked the location because it was within walking distance to nearly everything and within a short driving distance to many things as well. However, I wish that it didn't look as run down as it did. The walls looked old and dirty. The carpet looked old and the business center consisted of one very poor, slow computer. All in all though, I would stay here again.”

• Kind of tacky---needs updating.

“The staff was nice enough but the hotel was over rated in most all aspects. The business center which they advertise, consists of a computer on a counter in the lobby (tacky). Old bed spreads and not enough towels. It needs real updating. I was considering staying a second night in that hotel but I decided to move to another when it just didn't meet my expectations or what their promotional material said about the place.”

• This hotel is rated as 3 1/2 stars. In fact it doesn't meet the expectations of a one star hotel.

“The rooms are dirty, very old and wear out furniture. The location is very unsafe, I actually had to check on my car many times during my stay to make sure no one will break in, since they have no hotel parking, I had to park it away from the hotel. This is the worst hotel I have seen ever. I don't recommend to anyone. Please do ASAP.”

• As a woman traveling alone, I felt totally unsafe. Nothing in the hotel review lined up with the experience.

“Extremely old hotel that has experienced a poor facelift. It is dark, in an unsavorily part of Winnipeg, and unfriendly front desk staff. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.”

“We thought we were getting a bargain, but it ended up that the room was very small, worn, with a view of a brick wall. Then they charged us twice for our stay, which did not impress us. I would say this is a 2-star hotel at best, from our experience.”

“This hotel was dirty, poor communication from staff. They lost my reservation, made me pack up my stuff for the second night because they had no rooms and they ended up leaving me in the same room. They have a very poor shower, it goes from scolding hot to deep cold over and over, the water only trickled out and the rooms heat was not working in a very cold city. I don't recommend this hotel.”

“The staff was very well trained, cheerful despite the -26 degree weather and very fast and efficient. The historic restaurant decor was fantastic, and the location perfect for our business travelers, and I suppose vacationers interested in good food and Downtown events as well.”

• Hotel was close to my destination, was economical and had a basic gym.
• They had a billiards bar frequented by non-staying guests.

“This is a fairly nice hotel if you want an economy hotel in the Downtown area with a free airport shuttle service and a decent restaurant. However, there is no free parking and the parking in the parked across the street is not patrolled. The area of the hotel is not the greatest area of town but not the worse. I avoided the bar due to the outside patrons.”

• Waterslide was fun; one of the valets was very friendly.
• Kind of old; needs updating.

“Nice value for the money. Excellent location; most places we wanted to go were within a mile and a half or so. Pool area and waterslide were fun; I recommend it for families. The rooms were kind of old and dingy, but I wasn't expecting 5 star kind of accommodations.”

“The hotel had a good water slide, hot tub and lounge. The staff was great, however, they were doing upgrading of the heating system and our room was cold for part of our stay. We were provided with a heater though and the showers were hard to control the temperature (they are upgrading this also).”

• Its website representation.

“The hotel parking was unsafe and the security guard himself told us our car should be left empty as transients were likely to break in--even for small change. The general cleanliness of the Marlborough, for the price, was sub par. The room smelled musky, dank, the switches and knobs were dirty or non existent (as in the elevators). The managerial staff provided no remedial action.”

“The room was fine, just a little dated. I felt a little uneasy on the street outside of the hotel. There wasn't a problem, it just seemed like I needed to be aware of my surroundings with my family in tow.”

• Hotel was a bit old and dingy, no fridge, no main light switches.

“This place is OK if you just need a place to crash for the night. I would not recommend it for an extended period of time. The staff is nice and it is in town, but it's kind of in the shady part. I have been worse, but let's just say I would not go walking alone at night. The parking garage is across the street and fairly reasonable, I spent about $5 for the one day. I probably would not stay here again. There are much better hotels at reasonable prices.”

• Halls to rooms are dingy, drab, look like they should be replaced.

“If low cost is your concern, then stay here. But I wanted a three star hotel and only stayed here. Would not let me change my itinerary. I won't be staying at any hotels again that are less than 3 stars. While the room was fine, the halls were depressing, and it felt a little unsafe in them as well.”

• The location of the hotel was great and close to downtown attractions.
• Parking is in another building and is not included in the price. This was not made clear in the advertisements.

“This is an older hotel which is fairly well maintained. It needs further renovation. The physical facilities for dining were good but the food was marginal. The location is great and the price was very reasonable. One day we got a paper delivered to our door. The next day we did not.”

• Very convent location in downtown Winnipeg.
• The hotel manager was not attentive when our keys did not work.

“The hotel was overall very nice for what we paid. The management was not helpful in any way though. Our keys did not work, so we ended up waiting 45 minutes until they finally got it fixed, only to find out the key still didn't work. We finally just got a new room, but it was a major inconvenience.”

• No a/c, no cable except 1 channel, water didn't go down in bathtub, toilet flushed when it wanted, windows didn't open, grungy room
