“Staff is excellent at providing most everything one needs. Varlet parking is a must and appreciated. Lounge staffs are experienced and professional. Rooms are older in style and decors however are large and luxurious. It is indeed a must for business and pleasure.”

• The size of the rooms.
• The decor is a little tired.

“This is a great hotel if you need somewhere to stay and you are going to be out during the day. The room is large and comfortable. The other facilities are lacking. You would not want to stay here if you wanted to spend time at the hotel relaxing. The pool area is awful. They shouldn't even bother having one. The entire hotel needs a decor update.”

• Front desk staff very friendly.
• The hotel is becoming somewhat run-down since becoming the York. While it was the Sheraton it had much better upkeep.

“The location is excellent! Only a short walk to Portage ave. The staff are helpful. The rooms are nice but could be cleaner, stains on the carpet and furnishings. Over all it was well worth the money I paid.”

• You generally require a parking attendant to retrieve your car.

“Check in went very well. The room was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. the vending machines were out of order on our floor however the staff provided me with the pop that I wanted. Recommend to any traveler.”

“I stayed in the hotel many years ago. It has kept up the image of a fine hotel, and David at the front desk was very accommodating to my wife and I. I will stay at the York again my next trip to Winnipeg!”

• Bellman was excellent.
• Non smoking room still smelled smoky.

“We had a lovely room (non-smoking), but it still smelled like smoke, perhaps from other rooms on the same floor. I had to go up 4 floors to find an ice machine that worked. the staff was very helpful, especially the bellman with our parking needs.”

“In the downtown of Winnipeg this motel has three things going for it, spacious rooms, location, and reasonable prices for stay. And I cant for the valet. Its a good place for good people.”

• Fabulous food! Nice service throughout the hotel.
• VERY slow elevators not all were in service.

“My wife and I stayed at this establishment for two nights. While certain elements of the room were not as they should have been (malfunctioning toilet and alarm clock that kept my wife up virtually the entire first night) the staff not only rectified the situation quickly the next morning but showed good faith by offering a thirty-dollar food credit as well. We used that credit as partial payment for dinner on the second day at their Just Off Broadway Restaurant. The quality of food from appetizer to dessert was way beyond our expectations and represented one of our best dining experiences we have had anywhere.”

• Good location and luxury accommodations.
• Parking was not included and only had valet parking so you had to pay the extra charge and you had to call for your car.

• Age shows on the hotel.

“Great hotel for the price. Close to the Forks. The hotel shows that it was once a Sheraton, but at the same time shows some age as well. Staff was very helpful. Swimming pool appeared to be very clean. Great Indian restaurant near by - East Indian company.”

• The room and bathroom were spacious and beautiful. The room also had a great view of Winnipeg
• The morning valet was a little surly, and slow in retrieving our car.

“This was a great stay. The hotel is in downtown, and we had heard stories about cars not being safe to leave on the street overnight. The hotel had secure, valet parking ($11 CN), which was helpful. The room was very large, clean and comfortable, with a great view. The bed was especially comfortable, and we got a very pleasant night's sleep. The staff was friendly and helpful, and I would definitely stay at The York in the future.”

“The location was great, although no mention was made prior to checking in that there was an $11/day parking fee. The hotel is full service and accommodating. I was disappointed that the room was in need of carpet (heavily stained), wallpaper (coming loose in many places) and chairs (very old upholstery). Otherwise, the restaurant has a great chef, room service was efficient and friendly and the beds/pillows exceeded my expectations.”

• Suite style accommodations and split level rooms.
• Lobby area did smell like an "older' hotel that had seen better days.

“York the Hotel looked from the outside as if it had seen better days. The location, across the street from an abandoned restaurant and a low rung apartment building put us off a bit. Yet the staff attentiveness and wonderful (if slightly out of date) rooms with split levels and great views put us into the positive frame of mind.... For a discount, we'd stay here again....”

• The beds were very comfortable.
• The pool was closed, the parking was expensive, and the valet parking was a hassle.

“We enjoyed having two beds and a large room but we had to pay extra ($15.00 per night more than our agreed price) for these perks. The hotel was clean but was not very fancy and could use a few upgrades. The weekend we stayed at this hotel, the pool was closed which was disappointing. The hotel is located downtown which is very convenient. Hotel parking is $11.00 a day which seems rather high. We found the hotel to be satisfactory but not outstanding.”

• The pool was not working and you had to pay an extra $11 for parking.

“This hotel would be fine for the person on business who only needs one bed in the room. We needed two beds and were place in a room with only one bed. They did provide a cot but one of my children still had to sleep on a couch in order for it to work. We came expecting to spend time at the pool and found out it would not be functional all weekend. Not quite what we had in mind!”

• The room was large and the manager was very accommodating.
• The pool heat was off, the pool was freezing!

“The hotel was nice. I was disappointed by the extra $15.00 I had to pay for a two bed hotel. The valet was a joke. He moved the car 5 feet from the entrance of the hotel and we had to pay $11.00 for valet parking! The downside is we had to ask for our keys! The pool was freezing but the manager wanted to keep us happy and gave us free breakfast and a movie to accommodate.”

• Rooms were classy, problems immediately taken care of.
• Tipping all the time to get our car, in addition to paying to park in the first place.

“For what we paid for it, it was a very good deal. We stayed at the same place a year ago under the Sheraton name. It has slipped somewhat in appearance and function. No bed turn down and cookie, the bathroom needs work; fixtures and grout in shower. No buffet in restaurant which was a very good one. Staff was friendly and helpful.”

“I was satisfied with York. The room was clean and quiet, the bed comfy. Slept like a baby. The staff was most courteous and helpful, particularly the front desk. The lounge was nice and met some nice visitors there; a great place to hang out. Within walking distance of shopping, The Forks, the baseball park, the MTS Center. Fitness room barely adequate. Nice to have complimentary computer access in lobby. Restaurant waitress very friendly; breakfast delicious. Parking garage very cramped. Panhandlers everywhere. Man found dead two blocks away behind library.”

“The room was clean and reasonably well maintained. It is an older property with some items such as bathroom fixtures showing more age. The furniture looked to be more recent. There was only a small round table to use as a work area, which I found insufficient.”

• This hotel is perfectly located to do everything in downtown Winnipeg.
• The hotel requires you to valet park. I would prefer to be able to just get my car on my own.

“This hotel is going through a re branding It used to be a Sheraton, but now it is the generic "York the Hotel" until they can get a new brand. This means bookings are way down since no one has ever heard of York the Hotel. But the hotel still has all the amenities of a Sheraton and a new brand name will likely restore some of the sparkle and fill the restaurants and bars. In the meantime, the emptiness makes it a great. ”

• My car window was smashed in their care. 100 feet from entrance.

“Decent hotel. Unsecured valet parking. My care window was smashed in broad daylight 100 feet from the main entrance. Management was unresponsive about a free night or anything.”

• The room had a very unique but great layout. Also had a nice view and comfy bed.
• Parking was little tough to find, if you didn't want to use the valet.

• Very disappointed that the whirlpool in the pool area was out of order.
