• Location to shopping/restaurants - kitchenette in room (good for preparing kids' meals) - indoor pool - wine tasting.
• Uncomfortable bed (definitely not a Westin Heavenly Bed!) - Narrow hallways - small elevators.

“The front desk staff & lobby far exceeded the room quality, but the extra space in the room was good (as was having a kitchenette) since we had young children with us. The indoor pool is another bonus.”

• The hotel has a fantastic pool.
• The hallways were very Narrow.

“The hotel is in Downtown Vancouver a very convenient area with many good stores and restaurants. The hotel itself is older. We were given a one bedroom corner suite. The bedroom was on the small side, the bed was very comfortable. The living room was nice. The suite was equipped with a coffee maker, microwave, and refrigerator. The hotel has a well equipped exercise room and a large indoor heated swimming pool and Jacuzzi.”

• Had good quality bedding and comfortable beds.
• It felt rundown and dated. Their attempt at decorating was cheap and tawdry.

“The hotel was in a great location and the beds were very comfortable. The decorating was not our taste. The main problem wasn't that the decorating was modern, but rather cheap modern. The bedside tables finish was ruined. The desk was old and the top was painted a cheap blue. The soap dishes looked like a child's craft. Very disappointing. It was a 2 star dressed up as a 4 star.”

• The fact that I had to pay $25/day for hotel parking.

• The room was enormous! Wonderful views.
• The furnishings were a little outdated.

“Upon checking in we were immediately greeted by the valet, front desk clerk and concierge. Outstanding service. When entering the room we were shocked at the exceptionally large room, it even had a balcony! We had dinner on the first night at the hotel restaurant outstanding food, outstanding service! Don't miss the free wine.”

• The staff had an excellent attitude; rooms were spacious.
• The decor was a bit tired.

“The location was fabulous for the type of property I look for, close to the water, within walking distance of great restaurants and convenience type stores. The decor in the room and hallways are the only things keeping my rating from being deluxe. The lobby was beautiful and the staff was excellent.”

• The staff and room service was exceptional.
• The decor and wear of the carpets, etc were more of dorm room quality. Completely unacceptable.

“The staff is very friendly, very helpful. They chose to upgrade me to a suite which was very spacious. The quality of room service is very good. The building interior looks like an old, faded senior apartment complex or dormitory. The carpets are worn and stained, the wall surfaces look like they were painted without cleaning or resurfacing. The bathroom was old materials and the grount on the tub is yellowed-discolored. The tub is small. While the staff is friendly and the facilities are indeed cleaned, the appearance of the interior is disheartening. I hope I don't 'win' this one again.”

“False advertising. The hotel markets itself as an upscale property. When in reality it is a cheaply remodeled extremely old apartment. The water in the spa had not been changed in days and the buttons on all the soap dispensers in the showers had been removed. The hallways smelled of cat urine.”

• Gym, on the main drag could walk everywhere.
• The room was old enough that the wall paper was peeling off.

“I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and family. It's pet friendly with no added cost. We really enjoyed our stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful.”

“I purchased 2 rooms and I got vastly different rooms. One room was a mini suite with a kitchenette and a pull out sofa bed. The other rooms, no kitchen, no sofa, no pull out bed, no balcony.”

• Convenience to the work location.
• I wanted to change rooms, and there were plenty of other rooms and the desk clerk refused to move me.

“1st time very poor service - was placed in the handicap room- I was not pleased. Wanted to be moved, and the lady at the desk would not move me. There were other vacant rooms available, none handicap - if this is price line policy to be placed in a handicap room, after bidding on room- then you keep your discount- I have used your service too much to be treated like this- please check this out, it may be an isolated incident. Very unsatisfied traveler”

• Spotlessly clean; convenient location near 405 Freeway; nice bath products.
• Parking fee seemed very high for the area.

“The Hilton Orange County - Costa Mesa is a nice "high-end moderate" facility. The rooms were pleasant and extremely clean. It simply is not luxurious enough to warrant this rating. The bathroom fixtures, mattress, bedding and furniture were on par with most other establishments. The TV was old--many places these days have flat screen TVs. Also, $16/day for self-parking is very expensive for a suburban mid-rise hotel. Overall, however, it is a very good facility.”

• Amazing staff, and upgrade on arrival.
• TV in bedroom was going out, was told they are replacing all TVs soon.

“Amazing hotel, the staff was amazing the pool/spa area was amazing. The TVs seemed a little old for being a 4 star, but I was told that they were replacing the TVs in the next few months. I really enjoyed that they are also trying to make it a green hotel.”

• It was very large and had a full kitchen.
• It needed to be redecorated.

“We stayed here only one night. Its location was great, but the decor was from the '50's. It would be ideal for a family because of its spaciousness. It appeared to have been an apartment previously. The balcony was great. We stayed at the Sheraton in downtown Seattle the previous night and it was fabulous.”

• Big bright room, little area for coffee great view.
• Small elevators, uncomfortable lobby furniture.

“The room I had was bright and light and roomy with an easy chair to read and relax in. Good reading light next to bed and nice coffee tea array. Bathroom was nice (restricted showerhead though) and bath products were good quality. Air conditioning worked well and the bed was nicely outfitted. I'd love to stay again. Shopping and waterfront within easy walking distance.”

• Early morning street noise (sidewalk cleaning at 6:00 am!)

“High rise hotel with excellent water views from upper floors. Friendly, helpful staff. Great location on Robson street, near many good restaurants, shops. Parking charge in addition to room charge. Walking distance to seawall, Stanley park, Canada place. Slightly longer walks to Chinatown, Gastown.”

• Narrow aisle outside elevator, old building.

“I was afraid we would not find this hotel up to 4 star levels. It is an older building, but the fun decor and staff made for a fantastic experience. Although we weren't traveling with a dog, it was neat to see how welcome they were and how they added to the overall atmosphere with bright colored dog bowls, doggie names on welcome signs, etc. Complimentary Starbucks coffee in the lobby in the morning, and complimentary wine reception in the evenings. On Robson Street in a good location.”

• The room & decor were slightly shabby, chipped paint, etc.

“All the staff I talked with was exceptionally helpful and nice. The lobby and courtyards were great. We had a lovely breakfast. But the room itself was shabby. It's a cutesy decor but does not work, especially when the carpet was worn, the desk had old, chipped paint, and the covered chairs were slightly shabby as well. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was beautiful. But in general, the room struck me as far below any 4 star Vancouver hotel in which I have previously stayed.”

• I had emailed the hotel and requested a king bed on the 15th floor or above w/ an ocean view and they did it!
• Carpets soiled my socks when running around the room. But most hotels do.

“This hotel was very accommodating and had very friendly staff. I had emailed the hotel in advance requesting a king size bed, on or above the 15th floor, an ocean view, and it be close to the other room I had booked for my Mother who I had with us. They did it all! The rooms had very comfortable beds, fluffy pillows, a kitchenette, and free internet. I was very happy with this stay.”

• Unique appearance and welcoming atmosphere.
• Was not able to supply room with two beds, but did provide a comfortable rollaway.

“Highly recommend this hotel for location, price, and hospitality. Unique decor makes for a whimsical quality not usually found in a hotel. Not your usual cookie-cutter chain room.”

• The pool and spa area were beautiful; friendly staff.
• The decor was definitely not at a 4 star level. We went there for our honeymoon and we had hoped for something really special.

“Friendly and professional service. The hotel room had a good view, but I thought that since this room was rated at 4 stars deluxe that it would be modern and fancy. I felt that the decor was more casual.”

• The spaciousness of room.
• Not enough towels; "complementary" slippers -- thought socks on hanger were slippers -- cost $11.00 to our account.

“Really, it was a nice hotel. Very spacious living area. Entered room no towels. Asked for 3 bath towels and 2 hand towels, received 2 bath towels and 2 washcloths. Ended up paying $11.00 for socks on hanger because sign said slippers were "complimentary." After removing them (no slippers in room), read tag that said $11.00 if used. Rather than argue, we paid price.”

• Great location on exciting rob son street and within walking distance to seawall.
• Older building, windows and walls let in a lot of noise.

“Excellent midrange hotel in a great location. Most extra services come at a fee, and rooms are so-so. Friendly staff. Pool complex is in a completely different building from rooms - and rooms are in two different towers.”

• The location cannot be beat! It is absolutely central and worth it just for that!
• The hotel was very "modern" which for me translated into uncomfortable (a bit stiff!).

“I visited Pacific Palisades with my 3 sisters. We got a great rate at this hotel. We all wanted to be in the same space, and the suites were plenty big for all 4 of us to have our luggage, chat and get ready for a night on the town all together. The location was perfect and though the rooms weren't the cushy-comfort I tend to love, they were suitable. I would recommend this hotel to travelers that are either in a large group and need a suite, ones that appreciate "modern", and price-wise. Personally, if it were just me and one other I would go for an overstuffed, plush hotel (which can be found in the same class-rating). (PS -- we loved the complimentary wine tasting every night -- great social time!)”

• Staff was great, kids loved the pool, and location on Robson was nice.
• Night noise - but on Robson that is to be expected.

“I have stayed at this hotel several times, because of the location to everything. I especially like the balcony rooms that look over Robson. My teenage kids loved the room, and the pool. The staff is always nice, and I love the fact that you can bring your dogs. The PM wine reception is nice too.”

• The staff was helpful.
• For what we paid I was disappointed. This Hotel was not 4star.

“I was extremely disappointed in the room. The rug had stains, the lamp shades had stains, there was cigarette burns on the old furniture. If this is considered 4star, I hate to think what a 5 star hotel would look like or cost! I told the manager at the hotel that I will be writing you a letter asking for a refund on one nights stay at this hotel.”

• I loved the decor and the roominess of it.
• The air conditioning unit is in the living area, not in the bedroom. So, the bedroom door has to stay open to receive any AC.

• Suite was nice, nice pool & spa, and nice location.
• Overlooked other buildings, nothing special about view.

“Booked 2 rooms: received 1 south beach suite and one double deluxe room. Suite was much nicer (second bed was sofa bed). Nice hotel with big swimming pool which the kids loved. Appeared to be good location. Our room overlooked other buildings. Apparently, a pet friendly hotel, dog in lobby. Overall, a very nice hotel, a very good choice - for the price we got. Probably a lower end 4-star hotel.”

• It was very ecologically friendly and had fantastic work out and relaxation areas.
• They have wine tasting every eve and none of the wine we tried was very good

“The Pacific Palisades in Vancouver has a fabulous location in the city. It was very clean and friendly, room service was great. Food was hot and the staff very helpful.”

• My daughter describes this hotel best in one word, "awesome!".
• You're not forced to valet park, but it's pretty much the only way to park.

“My family and I stayed at this hotel. The front desk apologized for giving us a room with out a better view. He must have been joking because our view of the Bay couldn't have been any nicer on the 15th floor. This is just a wonderful hotel with something for everyone. Whether shopping, museums, nature walks, or laying around the pool (with the cutest cabanas surrounding it) is your thing; this is the perfect hotel.”

• Location was great for shopping.
• Parking was very expensive and it was tight getting into the parking spots and not many spots.

“At check in, the staff was very nice. They sounded excited that we were staying at the hotel. The bed was very comfortable especially for tall people. Overall it was a good experience but I felt that the hotel fell short of my expectations of a 4 star hotel for the amount that I paid for it. It should be priced as a 3 star upscale.”

• Poor air conditioning in room.

“Our room was huge and very clean. However, we are not accustomed to having to stay in a room over seventy degrees. Miserable trying to sleep with a less than adequate air conditioner. Got a fan for second night and slept a bit better. Great place and the AC was probably an isolated event.”

• Very dated, very basic, not close to 4 star, compromises.

“I would not recommend this hotel at all and rating it a 4 star compromises. Very old, very dated, small rooms, tiny elevator, very basic beds - not even close to a four star. Paying less and being treated poorly in a much over-rated hotel is not a deal.”

• Furniture slightly worn.

“Overall, the hotel is great. The staff is super and went out of their way to answer any questions. I forgot all my toiletries and they provided me all the necessities. Location is great for seeing downtown. Hon's Chinese restaurant around the corner. Rooms comfortable with fridge and microwave.”
