• Inexpensive, close to bus lines, and was straight shot to the bay.
• Room was smallish, but was comfy.

“The Red Lion is close to several bus lines and a 10 minute ride to the tourist area of Victoria. The rooms are smaller than average, but reasonably comfortable. The bar under the hotel went unexplored this trip, but the parking lot got a bit loud for a few minutes around closing time, but hotel security was on top of it without being asked. The liquor store in the building (but not in the hotel, strange setup) was an interesting if not welcome touch. All in all, a decent hotel at a great price. I will be back.”

• I like the hotel because it has a kitchenette which is very useful for travelers.
• It should have a continental breakfast.

• Noisy with a strip club attached. Dirty.

“There's a strip club attached and the people around the hotel were less than desirable. I felt my vehicle was unsafe in the parking lot, the noise went on into the wee hours of the night in the hotel and outside my window (earplugs required for sleeping), when I pulled out the hide-a-bed a decent amount of dirt fell out of it. Not a nice stay. Small, cramped room suitable for no more than two people.”

“Overall, not a bad place. Probably convenient for business travelers as not right in the city but with an attached night club, it can get loud at night. Free parking is a plus and 5 minutes by car to downtown.”

• The hotel sign was tricky to see from the road; we passed the hotel before discovering its location.

“This is good one for someone who is looking for a one-stop hotel. The amenities include a restaurant, lounge, pool & pub. I wouldn't recommend this for families. This is a local hot spot for adult entertainment. There are exotic dancers performing daily, on a regular basis.”

• Very helpful and friendly staff who went out of their way to be of assistance.
• The room was quite small.

“The room was quite small, with 2 queen beds. However, the bathroom was beautiful. The walls were all covered in marble, and the bath was a nice size with a good shower. There was a hairdryer and nice soap and shampoo. The room had a fridge and microwave as well as lots of TV channels. The only problem was that there was a dripping noise all night because something was wrong with the toilet. Also, we were woken up at 6:30 am by screaming kids next door, which went on for quite a while.”

“My family stayed at this hotel during Easter weekend. It is a smaller Red Lion Hotel; however, it is very clean, quiet and comfortable. The wing we stayed did not appear brand new to me, but very well maintained. All furniture and amenities are quite modern and up to date. Staffs are very friendly, they took time to explain everything we would like to know. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Vancouver Island. ”

“The hotel, while on the main street of downtown Victoria, is too far from the center of the city to be convenient for those wishing to dine on the wharf or sightsee. It is an older establishment without the bells and whistles expected of a three-star hotel. I was very disappointed, and only the friendly desk clerk kept me from complaining and moving elsewhere.”

• There is a liquor store connected to this hotel. It was cheap.
• There is a liquor store and a strip club connected to this hotel. It looked cheap.

“I got what I paid for, cheap. The room felt dingy and the bed was of poor quality. The bedding looked like something from a second hand store. The TV was OK though. It's not that far from Inner Harbor, but only if you have a car. The neighborhood was a little shady especially the people in this area due to the strip club attached to the hotel. There is also a Chinese restaurant attached to the hotel.”

• Close quarters.

“It was nice to get into the hotel room before 3:00pm.The room had a refrigerator and microwave. Would be glad to stay there again if I was planning to just be there to sleep, but we were being a little less rushed and wanted to just be in our room which was small, tight fit.”

“I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and decor given that this hotel has a notorious strip club. It was okay for one night. I would not stay here again because I would be wary of the clientele this hotel might attract later at night. If it weren't for the strip club this would be a perfectly fine place to stay with my husband or my family.”

“I was given a clean hotel room and the hotel cleaning staff did an excellent job. However, my preference for a non-smoking room was not fully fulfilled. I was placed in a location where all adjacent rooms were allowed to smoke. I had serious breathing problems as a result and my three days was a living hell.”

• Location, room quality and helpfulness of staff.
• Some ground floor room windows have bars. This is for safety from without. Leaves me concerns if there is a fire, etc.

“This was a friendly hotel, well located for trips into Victoria but on the edge of Vic making transit to Sidney and Swartz Bay easy. Facilities were well kept. I encountered a problem with the room location and they bent over backward to successfully change my room.”

• Location was convenient.
• Rooms adjacent were being painted and the smell travelelled through to our room.. not good.

“Ours was cramped, smelly and dark. I understand after arriving the hotel was presently being renovated but our section was still badly in need of a paint job and freshening up. I was happy with the location but parking in their lot is not good close to the entrance. Too small. Staff were very pleasant and that made all the difference.”

• Weird smells (like baby pooh) - really dirty carpets - unmatched furniture that made it thought to move around - SERIOUSLY uncomfortable beds!!!

“Man, did I feel like I was duped when I looked at the list of all the available two star hotels you could get for the displayed price - I thought wow, all decent places - I'll go for it. The Red Lion was not on that list otherwise I wouldn't have taken the risk. I was already familiar with this hotel and would generally avoid it due to the noisy strip bar clientèle in the halls and parking lots, the weird smells and the horrible beds. I'm not picky, and I feel bad because the staff is so great, but this place just creeps me out.”

• We ended up paying more for the room than the room rate was to begin with and it was nasty.

“Extremely loud hotel. Didn't sleep all night. People were smoking outside our door in the hall way most of the night. Was definitely a low budget hotel and I will make sure never to stay in a Red Lion again. Save yourself from a restless night in a not-so-clean hotel and spend the extra money to stay in a nicer part of town.”

“The hotel has a nice if small lobby and good quality rooms with a microwave and fridge. There is a computer in the lobby that you can use for free. But on the negative side, this hotel is attached to a strip club. Outside the hotel and strip club, is a tacky sign listing the names of the performers. Not exactly my first choice for a place to bring teenage girls to stay, which is what I was doing.”

• A great Dim Sum Restaurant in the lower level of hotel.
• There was some noise from patrons leaving the bar but my window was open. If it was closed, I could not hear the outside!

“Well, it's centrally located and new! On the main drag, good public trance and quick taxi service. No steps or ramps to get in everything is at ground level. Staff were outstanding and very helpful. Free computer hook up in the room and local phone calls were free. I'd stay there again.”

• Staff was very friendly and helpful. Location was convenient, but required a drive to downtown area.

“Clean and friendly staff, room we were given had a kitchenette. The room we were assigned was very small and crowded with a tiny window. They did move us to another room which was slightly bigger, but it still had only one bed. Location was fairly convenient, short drive to downtown Victoria but it would have been better to have been within walking distance to downtown.”

• Clean and affordable.
• Adjacent Strip Club was noisy and awkward. Some of the Fixtures needed repair.

“This place is reasonably far from Downtown Victoria, so do not stay there unless you have a car. The hotel is in the same building as a strip club and liquor store not exactly a desirable thing. But the service was great. Clean rooms. If I could do again, I would consider another hotel.”

• The extras like microwave, fridge, stove and that the bathroom was beautiful.

“Close to everything you need for dining or shopping and very near downtown, this hotel is more than worth the price you pay. The rooms are very clean and have more amenities than I expected. We had a fridge, cooking area and microwave which I never even expected which made it especially more than worth the cost. Excellent.”

“It was only an OK hotel. The lack of a shuttle made getting to the downtown area or the ferry landing a real pain. The room was much smaller than, say, a Holiday Inn room, but the TV was good-sized and worked well.”

• This hotel was clean and quiet.
• This hotel was a little far from downtown (30 blocks) but the bus was accessible and easy.

“Although this hotel was a bit out of the way, the staff was great and accessability to downtown by bus was easy. Also, this was right next to a bike/jogging path that went right down town and was beautiful. The only thing missing was a hot tub next to the outdoor pool. Otherwise this hotel was fine.”
