• Location was good and easy to find.
• None smoking room that smelled like people still smoked in the room before us.

“Overall a good experience, didn't eat there as it was expensive and the room still smells as though people still in the rooms. This hotel could use a face lift on the inside. Mattresses are beginning to sag and there should be a way to turn of the ventilator in the bath room.”

• The whirlpool and pool weren't fully functional.

“Opposite the Subway and close to Old Montreal, China Town and other Montreal Sites. The entry was a bit awkward as there was construction on the main floor and the lobby was on the second floor. There was a fetish convention and several of the guests were dressed in spandex with masks etc, which made for some awkward questions from my 12 year old son. I was fine about this, as it's all part of being in a big metropolitan city.”

• Was given a two bed room as one person at the furthest end & lousy view.

• Great location. Friendly staff. Spacious rooms. Convenient parking.
• No choice of non-smoking room. The smoke was waking us up at night.

“Overall experience is very positive. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The rooms are spacious, very clean, very comfortable beds and pillows, huge bathrooms. Room service is fast. The hotel is perfectly located in between Saint-Catherine street where all the entertainment is and the Old town. There is really no need for the car, everything is a walking distance. Parking is a bit expensive ($18/day) but convenient - you can take your car and return to the garage any time without paying the fee again.”

• Rugs etc in hotel dirty.

“Great location. Rooms clean. Bathrooms look like remodeled recently. Rugs in hallways need to be replaced. Balconies on 8 and 9 are locked closed. Great location near old Montreal. Metro stop across the street. About three blocks from st Catherine's street.”

“Nice location adjacent to Chinatown. Nothing special, just a basic hotel with dated decor. Staff was very helpful, however, and when we had a small problem with the room, were quick to correct it.”

• Free internet, easy to park, decent location.
• Internet speed is very slow, rooms could be cleaner.

“Overall, not a bad place to stay, just shouldn't be a 3 star. It's more like a 2.5 star hotel. The rooms aren't that clean but I was happy to get a fridge this time around. Also the internet connection isn't fast at all and always cuts in and out. If I had to I would stay here again.”

• The room had two queen beds as opposed to two double beds which was nice.
• The neighborhood it was in (Chinatown) was really noisy and smelled terrible.

“Located in Montreal's Chinatown, the Holiday Inn Select is not the ideal location for a Business Traveler or an Adult looking for a quiet leisurely time. The rooms are small but relatively clean; the bed-spreads could use some updating. The elevator from the ground level always stops at the reception floor before going to the room levels, and on the way down from the room levels to the ground level it always stops at the reception floor again. For a medium length stay this gets irritating. The motel is decked out with an Asian theme which is kind of corny, but on the reception level they have a goldfish pool which is pretty cool. Staff was friendly and helpful, self parking rate was reasonable and the parking lot wasn't too cramped. Free WiFi was very slow at times in the afternoon and evening, making web browsing nearly impossible. I wouldn't recommend this motel to anyone and wouldn't stay there again in the future.”

• No refrigerator and micro-oven in the room, breakfast not included with hotel rent, all 3 star hotel have.

“Breakfast always included in the hotel rent in 3 star hotel. This is exception here. This is most inconvenient for the visitors. Hotel location excellent. Room space okay. Micro-oven and refrigerator facility should be in the room.”

• Everything but location. Run down, dirty, service was terrible. Should be listed as a 2 star at best!

“My boyfriend and I were extremely disappointed with the quality of the hotel. This Holiday Inn is not comparable to a Hyatt. The facade of the hotel was hideous, there was absolutely no luxurious feel to the entrance or lobby, and the rooms were old and dated. Overall, the hotel failed to meet our expectations.”

“Overall a nice hotel and good service. Loved the fish and interior pond in the restaurant/lobby. Rooms were of good size. Didn't get a chance to dine or use their pool facilities. The only down side was the decoration was out of date.”

• Internet connection is kind of slow.

“Overall the stay was much better than expected. The parking is self-park and pretty easy to follow. Elevators lead right up to front desk. People working the front desk and housekeeping were both very nice. My only small complaints are the hotel is a bit far from where I like to be. And the internet connection although free, was a bit slow at times. I would almost rather pay a few bucks for faster service but not that big of a deal. Overall I was happy with this place and I would stay here again.”

• House keeping knocked on my door too early in the morning, sometime around 0800.

“The location of the hotel was perfect and ideal for me since I took a train in. There were plenty of restaurants available in the area and close to the Eatons Centre. The hotel was clean, their facilities were widely available and the staff was very pleasant.”

• Staff were very friendly and professional- seemed very genuine. Obvious this hotel puts emphasis on customer satisfaction.
• My room when I went up was not ready. Staff very apologetic. They immediately upgraded me to a king. As well, an alarm clock went off in an adjoining.

“Staff very friendly. Immediately adjacent to metro- Place des Armes. Chinatown and cheap, honest food next door. Reception area on 2nd floor? Asked for a wake up call at 5:15 and was awakened at 4:21by knock on door- thought it strange that somebody would be sent up to do this- when I asked at the door- it was someone delivering food- Given the reception is on the 2nd floor, I inquired about security/ video surveillance- if the hotel space were accessible to just anybody. It was a little unsettling. I would stay there again for the same price but not at regular rates posted.”

• The pipes made a very loud banging noise when I to took a shower.

“This hotel should be classified as a 1 ½-star or a 2-star hotel. Rooms were clean but extremely outdated. Huge stains on the carpets. The hotel was more like a motel than a hotel. There were no glasses in the rooms. Disposable cups. Did not have good service with individuals at the front desk - slow in responding to questions and then no knowing the answer. I would suggest that the star level be changed to 1 ½-star or 2-star.”

“Despite staying 3 nights, they charged me $2.65 after a couple of local calls and there was not coffee/tea/ sugar when the room was done for the day of the check out else all was good.”

• I was victimized in a violent crime.

“This hotel was overrun by deviants. I was beaten in the hallway then held hostage in my room by a gang member for 20 minutes. And the hotel was only able to refund me the peripheral costs incurred (parking, extra person).”

• I liked the price of the room.
• I did not like how uncomfortable the room was.

“First of all, this cannot be a three star hotel. The rooms were barely comfortable, the beds even less so, and the walls are so thin between rooms we could hear everything from a whisper. Furthermore, someone was smoking in a non smoking room and it wafted through the vents and ended up in our room, which was disgusting. The pool area was atrocious, and the front desk wouldn't even send up two wine glasses when we asked, we had to go get them ourselves. I would never stay here again.”

“The hotel was pretty basic but clean and next to a subway station. It did have an indoor pool but the fitness room was very limited. For a low-cost in-and-out overnight stay it was fine, but for a vacation with more time in the room & using the hotel facilities, it wouldn't be my choice.”

• The hotel was clean, had helpful staff, and was very conveniently located.
• The hotel was a bit shabby for a 3-star.

“The hotel was well located (right by the highway, within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go) and clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The toilet was not working properly when we arrived in the room (no water pressure, so wouldn't flush) but they fixed it within 20 minutes of us letting them know. We ordered room service for breakfast and the food was decent, but they left the ham out of my partner's Western omelet. When I called to complain they took it off the bill no questions asked. The pool and whirlpool were really small and kind of ghetto, but it was still nice to have it there. Overall the hotel was great considering the insanely low price we paid, and we had a good stay. It's not exactly luxury but it wasn't bad, either.”

“The carpets in the halls as well as in the room were stained, everything made so much noise, and the maids are very persistent about getting your room done. However, the bed was comfortable, the shower was okay, and there was a Tim Hortons straight across the street which made up for a lot!”

• Rooms were nice, not luxurious as Hyatt regency also a 3 star.

• It was located in Chinese area, and no regular restaurant close by, and no parking and breakfast was included.

“We didnt know the parking wasnt included, till we reached there, other than the room, nothing else was included, when we checked in the reception till the check out was ok, The worst thing was the location, Nothing other than Chinatown was close by but the room was ok.”

“This is a wonderful hotel. Great room. Great location. Steps away from old Montreal. Yet also very close to downtown and ST. Catherine's street. A metro right across the street. Right next to great shopping in china town. The lobby is just beautiful with a small like and Chinese like bridges over it. Overall, great experience.”

• The location (which is in china town) is only a couple blocks away from shopping & restaurants. It is also very close to the metro station.
• The beds were listed as queen size but couldn't have been more than double & were far too firm.

“Uncomfortable small beds, very dated decor in rooms, small dark shower, dingy small pool & hot (more like warm) tub with only one jet working, room that was 'non-smoking' smelt heavily of smoke, $17 a day for parking, lots of street noise at night even with the windows closed, definitely not a 3 star hotel! Staff were friendly but I will never stay in this hotel again!”

• The pool & hot-tub were clean, not crowded and relaxing.
• Our room was too close to street noise & the elevator.

“We were very pleased. This hotel was walking distance to many local sites. We also loved to be able to relax in the pool after a hectic day of sightseeing and walking. It is not elegant, but it met our needs.”
