• Front lobby is very inviting, rooms are small but well appointed, European flavor.
• Only valet parking, although the valet service was great.

“While the Arc Hotel is in an excellent location and I had no issues with any of the amenities, it seems not quite at the same level as the other downtown hotels.”

• The staff at check in were very nice and the glass of champagne was a nice touch.
• The management failed to adequately rectify an unhappy guest; valet parking took an hour.

• Location; customer service, staff; amenities of room.
• $21 for valet parking; walls are thin -no soundproofing!

“Seems to be an older hotel that was nicely renovated & redecorated. Staff is attentive. Room/bathroom spotless with lots of fluffy towels. Enjoyed the turn down service (but only 1 chocolate, 1 apple & 1 bottle of water for the 2 of us). But, could hear every word spoken in the next room and hallway (neighbors came in at 3 am). And bed was not that comfortable - a pillow top mattress would have been more in line with the rest of the facilities.”

• Location was great. Staff very helpful and friendly lounge with coffee and tea a nice added touch.
• The room was very small. With TV on had to climb over bed to get out.

“This is an older hotel which has been updated so you will find some of the rooms small and the plumbing old (had to wait about 1/2 hour on arrival to get hot water.) but that being said this hotel strives to make you as comfortable as possible. Nightly turn down with fruit/chocolates and water. A lounge with coffee/tea and local papers and magazines. Sparkling wine at check in. very nice touches.”

• The decor was very modern.
• Room was tiny; breakfast wasn't included restaurant prices very high.

“Very nice hotel, beautiful modern decor, but our room was tiny and unlike some of the other hotels we had the option of visiting there was no complimentary breakfast. As well the breakfast we could get from the hotel was at the cheapest $14 for a continental. So very nice if you aren't on a budget, or aren't planning on eating in the hotel.”

• Loud AC, tiny rooms, extra slow elevators, Internet connection charges.

“PROS: The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff was courteous and friendly. The hotel's location is very convenient. CONS: The room was tiny, with a very loud air-conditioner, and a bad, nauseating cigar odor. It took almost 15 minutes for the coffee machine to produce one cup of coffee. Water pressure in the shower was too low. The elevators are extremely slow. $4.50 for one hour of Internet access is just ridiculous. The staff could not think of more than two (mediocre) places to recommend for Sunday brunch.”

• Room was tiny. We got the smallest room in the hotel.

“The hotel was clean and modern. The hotel is a close distance to Elgin Street and the main attractions. This room is usually used for those who want an adjoining room for their suite.”

“The hotel was nice, but the room I was put in was small. For the price point, it is not worth it. When making star ratings, amenities should be considered more heavily and this hotel should not have made the cut.”

• Clean, convenient location, friendly staff, good restaurant.
• Our room was a little small as our trip was business/leisure combination with spouse.

“Even though our room was a little small, we really enjoyed staying there. We even got an invitation to the manager's cocktail party. All the staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. Place was very clean and chic.”

• Good location, complimentary wine served on check in, thick towels.
• Rooms extremely small, poor water pressure, elevators very slow.

“The hotel room was very small with minimal clearance to walk around the bed, and go between the TV cabinet and the bed. The TV cabinet doors could not fully open as the bed was in the way, and you had to close one door to walk around the bed. The bathroom was quite small and had poor water pressure. Elevators were very slow. I only stayed one night so did not see restaurants or other areas of hotel. Staff was friendly, and hotel did offer nice linens, robes, and two free bottles of water at the bedside, but I would have sacrificed that for a larger room.”

• Beautiful modern interior design of the lobby and rooms.
• Annoyed that I had to pay for internet service. Other less expensive hotels have free internet.

“I loved everything about the hotel except some minor things. There was no cream for my morning coffee so I had to call down for it and by the time it came, it was too late. The bathroom didn't have enough shelf space, and the having to pay for internet service was very annoying. I have stayed at much less expensive places and the internet was always free. This is expected now. Otherwise, staff was very friendly and the hotel rooms, hallways and lobby were stunning. The elevators were very slow though. The exercise room was the nicest that I have seen in any hotel.”

“This hotel is located right in the middle of the business district. It is within walking distance of shopping, Parliament Building, canal, and market. The breakfast in the hotel is good and not overly expensive. There was 34% occupancy when we were there, so very quiet in the hotel. The room was very small. Minimal toiletries - for a so called 4 star. Paid extra for internet connection. Room faces office towers, and no sheers on windows, so you must keep blinds completely down for privacy which makes for a very dark and dreary room. Would avoid staying here again. Not a hotel I would recommend.”

“We were charged an additional $20 per night for two double beds and $22 a day for valet parking because there was no appropriate self parking space. Room was small and very noisy as it faced the road, windows are very drafty. Only one working elevator and extremely slow. Lounge food was burnt and not what we expected it to be at all for the hotel. We would never stay at this hotel again.”

• Hotel room size was the smallest I have ever seen.

“I selected 4 star level hotel while booking and was completely disappointed with this hotel. The room size is the smallest I have seen in my life and there was hardly an space left after the bed and TV stand. In order to watch the TV you need to stick your face to the TV screen. They charged extra for everything like parking, internet etc. ”

“Arc The Hotel is a very chic hotel, but without the stuffiness/snobbiest of some of the high-end hotels in the States. The staff was welcoming, warm and very helpful, right down to the room service staff. This was my first stay in Ottawa, so I've never stayed elsewhere, but after this experience, I doubt I ever would.”

• Amazing staff, from start to finish.
• Rooms small.

“Greeted by doorman, SUV was too big (Pathfinder) to put in Arc car park so had to park across street but OK. Reception very welcoming, restaurant and barman amazing - offering a Shirley temple to our 9 yr old while we were having cocktails. Food and breakfast superb. Rooms very clean albeit on the small side (had a deluxe with 2 double beds). Beds very comfortable. For a weekend stay this hotel suits romantic couples, that said a couple who had a six month old at breakfast were made to feel very welcome and provided with a high chair. Certainly the staff make this hotel.”

• Very comfortable bed, beautiful bedding and friendly staff.
• Room too small, difficult moving around the bed with a too big amoir. Bed had to be lifted to open door of amoir so TV would be visible.

“A neat, minimalist hotel, conveniently located with very friendly staff and little extras including robes, chocolates and bubbly on arrival, apples and coffee always available. The too small, difficult to navigate around the bed room was a negative. Watching TV was another effort as we had to lift the bed to open the amoir door to have the TV screen visible. There is also no comfortable seating area. The view was less than desirable. We faced a brick wall which made the room very dark and gloomy. No parking on facility is also a negative. Valet parking is an added expense.”

• The hotel was located in downtown, very small but shick..zen style interior, nice bathtub..
• Only valet parking is available ($20), and no walk-in place to go near hotel.

“The hotel was relatively nice, but not for good to visit with family. The hotel would be nice to couple or single visit. There is no place to eat, buy small stuffs near hotel-only small restaurant in the hotel (closed at 10 pm). I wanted a drink in the bar but it was impossible.”

• Beautiful boutique hotel - great lounge, comfortable beds, cool style.
• Put in small, dark room with window looking into brick wall. But they were happy to change our room the next day to same standard, but much better.

“The Arc is a great boutique hotel. The rooms are small, but very nicely appointed, with cool design & comfortable beds. They were very clean as well. The lounge is a great place to relax, with Starbucks coffee & magazines. The service was solid, and the turndown service was a very nice touch. It's in a great part of Ottawa, close to all the sights. Would strongly recommend this hotel.”

• Great location, friendly people, excellent breakfast.
• Small rooms and you had to pay extra for 2 beds.

“Arc the Hotel, is close to the Sparks St. Mall, a few short blocks to Parliament Hill and the Rideau Canal, and a 15 min. walk to the Bywords Market area. The hotel staff is friendly and even remembered our breakfast preferences by the second day. The Aveda toiletries were a nice touch of home. While the rooms are small and minimalist in decoration the beds are comfortable. Our overall experience was definitely positive.”

“Everything was wonderful besides the closet room we got (Queen Deluxe). The room was so small you couldn't walk around the bed. There was no where to put your luggage other than the center of the room. We had to spend more money to change to a standard size room. I felt ripped off.”

• Very good service, nice beds, very clean
• Very unimpressive building, small rooms, small bathroom, bathroom features were mediocre, TV was small and had poor picture

“This hotel is conveniently located in Ottawa. A wide range of services is available to the customer and the rooms are impeccably cleaned. Unfortunately, the building itself is sadly lacking. The lobby and corridors in the hotel are small and unimpressive, the rooms and especially the bathrooms are also restrictive. Overall, this is (at best) a mediocre 3 star hotel dressed up with nice linens and good service.”
