• Restaurant, leisure activities.
• First room was small and dark, wanted to pay for upgrade-it was not allowed.

“We took our teenage children and they loved the water activities. Restaurant food was excellent. We wanted to pay for an upgrade - pavilion room and they refused. We were put in travelers room which was very small. Eventually the staff relented. We enjoyed our mini-holiday and would love to return. It looks like it would be fun in the winter.”

• Water activity was very good. The Eclipse restaurant was excellent and the sport pavilion was very good.
• Our room was small and dated and seemed in need of a renovation.

“Great location, close to Toronto. Had lots of indoor and outdoor activities for all ages. Some of the rooms and facilities seemed in need of a refresh, but the surroundings and the environment with the lake and the golf courses more than made up for it.”

• Many features for resort vacation.
• Came to check in at 4 pm and our room wasn't ready.

“Overall, we enjoyed what little time we spent there. The main outdoor pool was a little old, but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Room was very clean, free WiFi in room was an added bonus.”

• Big room. Upgraded us to a king bed when we arrived.
• Wouldn't let us request king bed ahead of time and it was for our anniversary.

“Very nice hotel. Check bill carefully. We had charges on ours that did not belong to us.”

• The hotel had a great atmosphere and a lot to do. Would definitely go back if we got this price again.
• The hot tub is very small and soapy. The floor at the pool area and games area was very dirty and not cleaned often.

“We stayed at this hotel at Easter time. Unfortunately even with the cold wintry weather, they had cancelled most of their winter activities. So being remote, there was little to do in this in-between period. They should have been available to rent the skidoos more, allow skating etc. The only thing I would change inside is I would put in an outdoor hot-tub that is kid-free or at least make the existing one bigger. I had to deke around kids swimming in the hot tub in their life jackets! And the thing only holds 6-8 people! Cleaning the floor around the sports area would be nicer as well. Otherwise, great hotel; would definitely go again!”

“Very courteous and helpful staff, room arrangements was as expected (actually exceeded expectations since we were upgraded from a junior suite to a luxurious timeshare unit upon arrival due to overbooking), food and food service were exceptional.”

• We were in one of the older rooms; the new building is much nicer.

“Deer Hurst is a great resort. This particular stay was very short, less than 24 hours, and the weather was not nice. Our room was in an older building and could use some talk. Our last stay was in the main building and the rooms were fantastic. From past experiences, I would recommend Deer Hurst, but this trip was not very nice due to the short duration and the weather.”

• The facilities were excellent. The scenery was wonderful. The meals were well prepared.
• The meals were overpriced. The bed was not particularly comfortable. Someone's room service tray was left all day in the hall.

“We enjoyed our short stay at Deer Hurst. It was bright and comfortable. The service was very good and the facilities were excellent. We would recommend it to others, although the rooms were quite expensive.”

• The room was spacious, the food and the wait staff were very friendly and the location is beautiful!
• Carpet in our room was a little worn or maybe it needed to be cleaned.

“This was a great place to stay after a day in the Algonquin Provincial Park. My husband and I were alone and we were thrilled with the room and the quality of the food and especially the service. We stayed at about 5 different hotels on a trip through Quebec and Ontario, including top-rated hotel names, and this was our favorite. We could have been happy there for several days-a definite thumbs up!”

• The beauty of the resort and evening shows were spectacular.
• The restaurants were very pricey. We chose to eat many meals offsite.

• Our room had a terrace. Shuttle bus service. Activities were great and lots of fun.
• Cw lounge & facilities were closed. Room cleaning could have been better.

“We loved it, had lots of fun and would go again. Shuttle bus service is very quick. Staff is friendly. I would rate this as a 4 star rather than 5, but all in all very nice resort.”

• Smoking in non-smoking rooms was awful.

“Fantastic. Great service. Superb activities. A great value. Early check-in. Helpful staff. Other guests were likewise very nice. Snowmobiles get a bit tiresome and smoking in remote rooms is a problem, but all in all a true resort experience and a great winter holiday with very little extra costs hidden anywhere. Nearby towns also superb. Oh Canada!”

“We were there for a wedding (daughter) and everyone was so very accommodating and helpful. We had a few minor glitches with our wedding plans and Deer Hurst staff were more than ready to do what they could to help.”

• "Business Center" consisted of only one antiquated computer and a lot of dust bunnies!!

“The location, facilities and staff were outstanding EXCEPT for the business center as I said. I have stayed in much less of a quality resort and had 3 or more computers and printers available.”

• Beautiful setting, leisurely pace, view was spectacular, very inviting.
• Don't have anything bad to say, it was a wonderful experience.

“When you arrive at the hotel, friendly staff greet you and ask how they can assist you. When using any of the facilities for recreation, the staff are happy to help out in any way. The room was lovely, all of the facilities were clean and in good shape. The atmosphere was one of elegance and relaxation. It was the best to come again to enjoy another holiday.”

• Prices at onsite restaurants.

“A good destination for families looking to keep kids busy. The Sports Pavilion rooms have mini kitchens which help reduce the reliance on eating out every meal. A little tired looking, the decor good use a freshening up. The restaurants do not measure up to city restaurants charging similar prices. Unfortunately there are additional costs for a number of the activities offered or to use some of the equipment.”

• Lots of tennis courts and sports activities.
• No evening activities for children, paying for canoes, not enough kayaks, life jackets or beach chairs.

“The pavilion hotel rooms were a good size and clean. The staff at the hotel desk and sports desk were helpful. The hiking trails were nice. The waterfront staff were disorganized. The system for taking out kayaks was not efficient leaving people to wait on the dock for long periods of time, only to find there were no life jackets available once a kayak came in. Later we would find kayaks way down on the beach or life jackets sitting on the grass with no one using them. The sandy beach should have been raked. There were not enough youth tennis rackets.”

• If we were looking for many activities on site, we would recommend this hotel.
• Housekeeping was poor. Our first room hadn't been cleaned and was smoky Second room was dirty and we choose to clean it.

“We've stayed at this hotel over the years. We stopped staying there when it was a Canadian Pacific resort because of cleanliness issues. We found our first room to have been recently smoked in, with glass full of cigarettes at the sliding door. The second room had a dirty kitchen area and housekeeping didn't come until after 6 pm the next day, so we didn't have clean towels after golf to shower. The hotel has many amenities, but housekeeping issues, left us with a dissatisfied stay.”

• Rooms were bland and somewhat dated.

“The room that was assigned to us was the worst in the whole complex. It was on the ground floor facing the parking lot despite the fact that the resort was half empty. Needed to pay $50/night upgrade fee in order to move up to a decent room.”

• Our cleaning staff wasn't very good.

“Love the hotel. Love Huntsville. Love Hidden Valley for Ontario skiing. Tons to do at the resort and prices for most activities are included. For e.g. tennis, squash, racquet ball etc.”

• There is so much to do at this resort. Had a fireplace in our room!
• Room is in need of a little updating.

“Everything is here to have a romantic get-away weekend: year round sports (swimming, golf, snowmobiling, skating, etc.), fitness facilities (work out rooms, squash, tennis, pools) restaurants and entertainment.”
